By Reza Kahlili, WND – “With Western pressure growing on Bashar Assad over the latest massacres of defenseless women and children in Syria, Iranian officials again are warning the world against any action against the Middle East dictator.

The pro-Assad ‘resistance’ has its finger on the trigger and the aggressors will not survive the conflict, a senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Brig. Gen. Massoud Jazaeri, told Mashregh, a media outlet run by the Guards. Iranian officials often refer to Iran, Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon as the resistance front.

Mashregh reported in March that Iran’s armed forces had formed a joint war room that included officers from Syria, Iran and Hezbollah for a coordinated military response to an attack on Syria.

‘A conflict in Syria will engulf the region and its main victims will be the people of Syria themselves,’ Jazaeri warned the protesters. ‘The Zionist regime and the interests of the enemies of Syria are all within range of the resistance fire.’

Citing a conspiracy to weaken the resistance front and that foreign hands were involved in the events in Syria, Jazaeri said, ‘At the right time, people of the region will retaliate against these actions. The defeat of the enemy at this stage will be a big event and, God willing, we will witness that.’…

Meanwhile, the head of Iran’s Basij militia made clear that Iran will not tolerate the fall of Assad.” Read more.

Middle East Online – “SANAA – The wife of Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri has congratulated Muslim women for the role they have played in the Arab Spring and urged them to raise their children for jihad.

‘I congratulate all Muslim women for these blessed revolutions,’ Umaima Hassan Ahmed Mohammed Hassan wrote in a letter posted on the Al-Fajr website on Friday.

‘I advise you to raise your children in the cult of jihad and martyrdom and to instil in them a love for religion and death,’ she wrote.

In doing so, ‘each woman would raise her child to be a new Saladin by telling him ‘it is you who will restore the grandeur of the Islamic nation and you will liberate Jerusalem.”

Saladin was a 12th century Kurdish general who became the first sultan of Egypt and whose forces defeated Crusader armies in a battle that led to the eventual fall of the Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem.

The text also counseled women to continue to wear the veil and to encourage their husbands and sons to ‘free the prisoners wherever they are… such as the widows of our martyr Osama bin Laden, who are languishing with their children in a Pakistani prison.’

The last passage indicates that the message was written before Bin Laden’s widows and children were expelled from Pakistan at the end of April.” Source – Middle East Online.

UPI – “Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, said Sunday the West was more fearful of Iran’s fervent Islam than its nuclear program.

The religious leader spoke Sunday at the 23rd anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Khomenei and claimed Iran was stronger than ever despite Western efforts to keep the country at bay.

‘What the enemies of Iran fear, and must fear, is not a nuclear Iran but the Islamic Iran,’ Khamenei said.

Khamenei said that despite international opposition, Iran had made major strides in science and defense technology.

The Fars News Agency said Iran earlier this year embarked on a major military modernization program that included next-generation radar, guided weapons and missiles.

Khamenei also claimed Iran was accomplishing its goals without the assistance of other nations, the Islamic Republic News Agency IRNA said. ‘We have no need to foreign experts in undertaking our projects,’ he said.” Source – UPI.com.

AP and Times of Israel – “PARIS — The Interior Ministry says an attack by 10 assailants on three people in southeast France was anti-Semitic, and has called for the assailants to be brought to justice. Two of the victims were hospitalized.

The office of Interior Minister Manuel Valls said Sunday that police were mobilized to arrest those behind the attack a night earlier in Villeurbanne, near the city of Lyon.

The ministry said the assailants wielded a hammer and an iron bar. One victim sustained an open wound to the head, and another suffered a neck injury. Both men wore Jewish skullcaps.

The three were attacked outside the city’s Beit Menachem Jewish school on Saturday night, according to French newspaper L’Express.

The national agency tasked with fighting anti-Semitism said the attackers were likely of North African extraction. The agency said the attackers shouted anti-Semitic insults at the victims before attacking them.

Investigators kept the incident under wraps in the hopes of catching the assailants, according to French newspaper Le Figaro.

Valls condemned the incidents and called it an attack on the Republic of France. He pledged complete police mobilization until the suspects are located.

France is home to western Europe’s largest Jewish community, estimated at about 500,000 people, and has intermittently faced bouts of violent anti-Semitism.” Read more.

AFP – “Israel is arming submarines supplied and largely financed by Germany with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, influential German news weekly Der Spiegel reports in its issue to be published on Monday.

The magazine said in a cover story that Berlin had until now denied any knowledge that German submarines were being used as part of an Israeli atomic arsenal.

But former high-ranking officials of the German defence ministry told Der Spiegel that the government always assumed Israel was putting nuclear warheads on the Dolphin-class vessels.

The article, based on a months-long probe, cited files from the foreign ministry in Berlin indicating the West German state was aware of the practice as early as 1961.

In Israel, foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said only: ‘I can confirm that we have German submarines. It’s no secret.

‘As for the rest, I am not in a position to talk about their capacity,’ he told AFP.

Israel is the Middle East’s sole if undeclared nuclear-armed power.

Germany has already supplied Israel with three of the submarines in question, footing most of the bill, and another three are to be delivered by 2017 under a recently signed contract.

Meanwhile Israel is weighing whether to order three more, according to the report.

‘The Germans can be proud to have ensured the existence of the state of Israel for several years to come,’ Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak was quoted by Der Spiegel as saying.

The opposition Social Democrat Party called Sunday on Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government for an explanation.

‘The federal government must provide information so that we know if the submarines delivered by Germany can be potentially equipped with nuclear warheads,’ party spokesman Rolf Muetzenich told Der Spiegel.

Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said all submarines had been delivered unarmed.” Read more.
