“Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church has said it is ‘pointless’ to take part in talks on a new constitution, saying mounting Islamist domination in the talks has led them to withdraw from the assembly, Egypt’s state news agency said.

The 100-member constitutional assembly selected by the parliament is dominated by Islamists, reflecting their resounding victory in parliamentary elections.

Late on Sunday, the Church announced the decision to withdraw; a move which followed earlier calls by Egyptian liberals to boycott the constitution drafting committee, which is seen as failing to adequately represent the nation’s diversity.

‘The Coptic Orthodox Church General Council agreed with the approval of all of the council’s 20 members to withdraw from the constitutional assembly… as it found it was pointless for the church to be represented following the comments made by the national forces about the way the assembly was formed,’ the state news agency said, quoting a church statement.

The current constitution was suspended by the country’s army rulers in February of last year shortly after they took power from Egypt’s long-serving autocratic president, Hosni Mubarak.

Coptic Christians, who form Egypt’s biggest minority group and constitute most of Egypt’s 10 percent Christian population, have long had a difficult relationship with the country’s overwhelmingly Muslim majority.

Egypt secularists pull out of constituent assembly – “Liberal and leftist parties have pulled out of a panel drafting Egypt’s new constitution, they announced on Tuesday, accusing Islamists of monopolising the process to deliver its post-revolution charter. The withdrawals from the panel will call its legitimacy into question, pushing the struggle between Islamists and secularists over the issue to crisis point. ‘We announce our rejection of the way the constituent assembly was formed,’ Ahmed Said, the head of the liberal Free Egyptians party, told reporters.” Read more.

Entitled, ‘The Fiqh [Islamic Jurisprudence]-Based Reasons for the Need for Israel’s Annihilation,’ the Open Source Center recently provided a full translation. The article begins by recalling Ayatollah Khomeini’s views:

By Jonathan Dienst and Shimon Prokupecz – “A computer graphic warning that al-Qaida will return soon to New York City has been posted on an internet site linked to the terror organization, and the NYPD and FBI say they are investigating.

The graphic was posted on a radical overseas website and shows the city skyline and reads: ‘Al Qaeda Coming Soon Again in New York.’

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said the graphic appeared on a site that has hosted al-Qaida material before and is what the NYPD Intelligence Division refers to as a Category 1 website, meaning it is heavily used by Jihadi and al-Qaida adherents.

He added that the NYPD is working to try to determine what individual or group posted the threat on the website; it is now being spread across numerous extremist forums…

The NYPD says there is no evidence of any plot or new specific threat to the region. Al-Qaida web forums often post threats and rants from extremists and al-Qaida sympathizers.” Read more.

They also need “infidel-beating” books teaching them that they must dominate the world, books teaching them that Allah’s Sharia Law must be given the power to speak, not just in Muslim nations, but “anywhere on the face of the earth” for the “ideology and programme of Islam” …

By Terry Davidson – “TORONTO – An Islamic bookstore in east Toronto is selling books that urge Muslims to usurp the Western world and install an Islamic State in its place.

The books, written by deceased Islamic scholar Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi – are available at the Islamic Circle of North America bookstore in Scarborough.

‘Islam wishes to destroy all States and Governments anywhere on the face of the earth which are opposed to the ideology and programme of Islam regardless of the country or the Nation that rules it,’ Maududi wrote in Jihad in Islam. ‘Islam requires the earth – not just a portion – but the whole planet.’

Maududi was an influential Pakistani journalist, theologian and Muslim revivalist leader who wrote more than 120 books and pamphlets and lived from 1903 to 1979.

He is described in the preface of one of the books as an author who ‘provided the present-day revival of Islam with its intellectual foundations.’

Maududi’s books carry a common theme of Islam as a revolutionary ‘ideology and program which seeks to alter the social order of the whole world and rebuild it in conformity with its own tenets and ideals.’

‘Jihad,’ which he refers to in at least one book as a war against non-Muslims, is in fact ‘undertaken for the collective well-being of mankind’ to establish ‘God’s order’ in the world and create a ‘just and equitable social order among human beings,’ he wrote.

Terrorism expert David Harris calls such material — antiquated or not — incredibly ‘problematic’ to National security, but goes on to say that because of Canada’s freedom of expression legislation, police and the courts, in many cases, can’t do much about it.” Read more.

BY BENJAMIN WEINTHAL AND THOMAS JOSCELYN – “An al Qaeda cell slated to take part in one of the final plots ordered by Osama bin Laden made use of an Iran-based terror network that, according to the Obama administration, operates ‘under an agreement between al Qaeda and the Iranian government.’ That revelation has emerged from legal proceedings in Germany, including the trial of Ahmad Wali Siddiqui, an al Qaeda recruit who took the stand for the first time last week in Koblenz.

We observed two days of Siddiqui’s testimony. Thus far, prosecutors have allowed the gregarious defendant to do most of the talking. Cleanshaven, he has sought to present a sharply different demeanor than the one he displayed as a bearded jihadist in propaganda films shown to the court. Still, his disturbing narrative provided an extraordinary window into the inner workings of al Qaeda and allied organizations.

The alleged terror recruit, with dual German and Afghan citizenship, has discussed the time he and his fellow plotters spent at the same mosque attended by al Qaeda’s 9/11 Hamburg cell, as well as his own transformation into a violent jihadist. ‘We wanted to fight .  .  . against Americans,’ Siddiqui told the court. Wiretapped conversations played by prosecutors have provided additional insight into Siddiqui’s extremist worldview. During one telephone call to his mother he explained the difference between living in the West and living, as he was then, among the believers: ‘Life in Germany is not good. You live with gays, lesbians, and Jews. Islam rules here.’

Siddiqui initially joined the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), a terrorist organization closely allied with al Qaeda, in northern Pakistan. He quickly migrated to al Qaeda itself.

According to the indictment, senior terrorists decided to send Siddiqui back to Germany to take part in a potentially devastating attack intended ‘to weaken Europe’s economy.’ In the fall of 2010, Western intelligence officials learned that Osama bin Laden had ordered attacks in several cities that were supposed to mirror the November 2008 siege of Mumbai. After Siddiqui was captured in Afghanistan, he revealed the nascent plot.” Read more.

“The French Jewish school where a gunman killed three children and a teacher this month has been receiving hate mail since the attack.

French authorities said Wednesday they had launched an investigation to determine the source of the threatening mail, after receiving complaints from administrators at the school in the southern city of Toulouse.

The school attack and shootings that also killed three French soldiers in the Toulouse region earlier this month were carried out by Mohamed Merah, a Frenchman of Algerian origin who authorities say claimed to have ties to al-Qaida. He died in a gunbattle with police.

In another incident, teenagers reciting anti-Semitic slogans beat a 12-year-old Jewish boy outside his school in Paris on Monday. The boy’s school and the school where the Toulouse attack occurred are both part of the Ozar Hatorah network of Jewish schools.

France is home to at least a half-million Jews, who represent Europe’s largest Jewish community.” Read more.
