‘Death to America’: One Dead After Protests, Attacks Hit Afghanistan in Wake of ‘Rogue Soldier’ Killings, Cross and Effigy of Obama Burned
“Thousands of people took to the streets in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday to protest the killing of 16 civilians by a U.S. soldier, burning an effigy of Barack Obama and calling for the killer to be tried in Afghanistan.
Demonstrators in the city of Jalalabad chanted ‘Death to America — Death to Obama’ and blocked the main highway to Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, Britain’s Daily Telegraph reported.
‘Jihad (holy war) is the only way to get the invading Americans out of Afghanistan,’ one banner read, according to the newspaper.
The demonstrators also demanded that President Hamid Karzai reject plans to sign a strategic pact with Washington that would allow U.S. advisers and possibly special forces to remain beyond a 2014 deadline for foreign combat troops to leave Afghanistan.” Read more.
One dead after militants attack Afghan delegation at site of killing spree, Taliban vows to behead those responsible – “Taliban militants opened fire Tuesday on an Afghan government delegation visiting one of the two villages in southern Afghanistan where a U.S. soldier is suspected of killing 16 civilians. The gunfire killed an Afghan soldier who was providing security for the delegation, said Gen. Abdul Razaq, the police chief for Kandahar province where the visit took place. Another Afghan soldier and a military prosecutor were wounded in the attack, he said. The attack in Balandi village came as the Taliban vowed to kill and behead those responsible for the 16 Afghan civilians killed Sunday.” Read more.
Free Speech vs. Islamists: Why the West Is Losing
“Recently, Salman Rushdie did not attend a literature festival in India after Indian authorities warned him he was a potential target of assassins, and after numerous protests by various Islamist groups. This is not the first time that Mr. Rushdie found himself at odds with Islamists over his free speech. In 1988, he published his book The Satanic Verses, whose ‘blasphemous writings’ first resulted in death threats to Mr. Rushdie from Islamists — including a fatwa against him by Ayatollah Khomeini — and first alerted the world to the problems Islamists had with free speech concerning Islam-related topics.
After initially trying to apologize to appease his Islamist censors, Rushdie was forced to go underground under protective detail. In 2012, almost a quarter of a century from when he first found himself enmeshed in the struggle for free speech, Mr. Rushdie faced a similar threat and once again was forced to back down.
Unfortunately, the Rushdie example is all too representative of how things are going in the Western struggle to protect speech from Islamist thugs. In other words, not well. Things are probably getting worse.
Back in 1989, most in the Western world were still shocked by the threat against Rushdie, and after some hemming and hawing eventually came out in support of his right to say what he wanted to say about his own, lapsed religion. Today, virtually no one seems to notice or care when Rushdie is once again threatened for his speech. That is because today, Islamist death threats made against persons who speak about Islam-related topics are so commonplace (recall South Park, Charlie Hebdo, and David Letterman). The world is so accustomed to placing the blame on the speakers that there really isn’t much to get indignant about.

Ignoring Islamo-Fascism at Our Peril, ‘Americans Are Leaving Themselves Vulnerable to Future Attacks’
By Alan Caruba – “In early November 2009 Americans were shocked to learn that an Army psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, had shot and killed twelve soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, and wounded thirty-one others. Because of the unrelenting political correctness prevailing in the Army and other services, all the signs that Hasan was a ticking time bomb were ignored.
Hasan was known to be a Muslim, had exhibited signs of a growing fanaticism, occasionally showed up in the post exchange dressed in Arab garb, and as it turned out later, was being mentored by Yemen’s al Qaeda leader, Anwar al-Awlaki , an American citizen who was later killed by a drone strike. As Hasan stood before the soldiers, firing at them, he yelled ‘Allah Akbar.’
This and other attacks, planned, failed, and thwarted occurred before and since 9/11; an attack that stunned Americans, all contribute to the worldwide terrorism intended to bring about the domination of Islam. Not only has the memory faded, but in 2009 the Obama administration did away with the earlier description of ‘a war on terrorism’, it ordered the Pentagon to replace it with ‘overseas contingency operations.’
The administration’s magical thinking about the Islamo-fascist threat makes one wonder why it has a Department of Homeland Security.
When it became known that the New York City Police Department was training its force to be especially watchful for any signs of terrorist attacks and was paying close attention to the mosques in the city and across the river in New Jersey, there was an outcry that totally ignored the threat. Initially they were rebuked by the Governor of New Jersey, a state where the 1993 attack on the Twin Towers was planned. One of the conspirators arrested lived in my hometown!
A report by the NYPD notes that Newark police officers worked closely ‘at all times’ with their New York City counterparts. Much of the criticism of the NYPD’s program has been due to its success!

Egypt Parliament Threatens to Reject US Aid and Halt Gas Exports to ‘Zionist’ Enemy, Calls For Expulsion of Israeli Ambassador
It’s amazing what “freedom” has brought to Egypt. Rejecting $1 billion in US aid would almost be laughable, if the possible implications were not so serious. Last month the Muslim Brotherhood had apparently come to the conclusion that it was Halal to extort the United States by threatening, for all intents and purposes, to wage war against Israel if America cut off aid to Egypt. Now they’re threatening to reject it all together, and all this while making it loud and clear that Egypt will “never be the friend, partner or ally of the Zionist entity”, even moving to halt all gas exports to “the first enemy of Egypt”. It almost seems to me like the Islamists are itching for that war after all. Sorry, Jimmy Carter. Expect “relations” to deteriorate even further once the Islamists finally gain control of the Egyptian military …
“The Egyptian parliament may vote on a measure that would cut $1 billion in U.S. foreign assistance.
A resolution was introduced in parliament on Sunday, The Associated Press reported. The vote, which would be largely symbolic, reflects the growing tensions between the United States and the newly installed Islamist-dominated parliament over the arrest of American foreign aid workers last month.
The U.S. threatened to withhold foreign assistance from the Egyptian government unless the aid workers were released and cleared of all charges.
Following the release of the aid workers on March 1, Egyptian lawmakers moved toward a vote of no-confidence in the government of Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri after complaining that the U.S. has no respect for Egyptian sovereignty.” Source – The Jewish Daily Forward.
Egypt Calls for Expulsion of Israeli Ambassador – “Egypt’s Islamist-dominated parliament on Monday called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Cairo and the recall of Egypt’s envoy to the Jewish state. According to a report in AFP, which cited the Egyptian MENA news agency, the parliament unanimously approved a text prepared by the Arab affairs committee of the People’s Assembly calling for ‘the expulsion from Egypt of the Israeli ambassador and the recall of Egypt’s envoy from Tel Aviv.’ According to the text approved on Monday, MPs also called for a halt to gas exports to Israel. ‘Egypt will never be the friend, partner or ally of the Zionist entity which we consider as the first enemy of Egypt and the Arab nation,’ read the text.” Read more.
Leader of Militant Group Behind Gilad Schalit Kidnapping Killed by Israel Airstrike in Gaza
Matthew 26:52b, “… for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.”
“Zuhair al-Qaissi, the commander of the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), a Hamas-aligned militant group, was targeted in a midday strike as his car rolled through Gaza City.
His son-in-law and another aide also died in the attack while Israel’s military said it killed two more militants in a separate operation.
The strike is the highest-profile in Gaza for months and sparked an immediate burst of retaliatory rocket fire as well as fears that the violence may escalate in coming days.
Militant groups responded by firing dozens of rockets and mortar rounds into southern Israel, reportedly injuring four people.
Israel said al-Qaissi was plotting an attack similar to the raids in August last year, where four groups of militants crossed over the border from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and killed six civilians and two members of the security forces.
Al-Qaissi was reportedly also in charge of funneling money the Lebanese group Hezbollah to militant organisations in Gaza. His predecessor, Kamal Nairab, was killed by a similar Israeli strike seven months ago.
A PRC spokesman promised retribution for yesterday’s attack, saying: ‘We shall avenge our leader and the response, God willing, will be equal to the size of the heinous crime.'” Read more.
Iraq’s ‘Twilight of Christianity’: Fleeing Islamic Extremism, Exodus From North Signals Iraqi Christians’ Slow Decline
![]()
By JACK HEALY – “TENNA, Iraq — Iraq’s dwindling Christians, driven from their homes by attacks and intimidation, are beginning to abandon the havens they had found in the country’s north, discouraged by unemployment and a creeping fear that the violence they had fled was catching up to them.
Their quiet exodus to Turkey, Jordan, Europe and the United States is the latest chapter of a seemingly inexorable decline that many religious leaders say tolls the twilight of Christianity in a land where city skylines have long been marked by both minarets and church steeples. Recent assessments say that Iraq’s Christian population has now fallen by more than half since the 2003 American invasion, and with the military’s departure, some Christians say they lost a protector of last resort.
Their flight is felt in places like the wind-scoured village of Tenna, which has sheltered dozens of Christian migrants over the past nine years. The families fleeing Baghdad’s death squads and bombings found safety here beneath the hulking mountains, but little else besides poverty, boredom and cold. Villagers estimate that half of the 50 or so Christian homes are now empty, their families abroad.
Walid Shamoon, 42, wants to be the next to leave. He said he left Iraq’s capital in January 2011 after a confrontation with Shiite militia members set off a nightmare of escalating death threats and an attempt on his life. A brother had already been killed in a mortar attack six years earlier, so he said he quit his contract job with the Australian Embassy, giving up a $1,500 monthly salary, and came here.
These days, all he can think about is his application to emigrate to Arizona.
‘This is not a life,’ he said one recent afternoon, as a blizzard raced down from the mountains. ‘There is no improvement. There is no work.’
Many of the people now struggling in Iraq’s Kurdish north came in the wake of a suicide attack in Baghdad at Our Lady of Salvation Church in October 2010. It was the single worst assault on Iraq’s Christians since the war began, one that left 50 worshipers and 2 priests dead and that turned the church into a charnel house of scorched pews and shattered stained glass.
Christian families in Baghdad grabbed clothing, cash and a few other provisions and headed north for the Christian communities along the Nineveh plain and Kurdistan’s three provinces. They joined tens of thousands of other Christians from the capital, Mosul and other cities who traced similar arcs after earlier attacks and assassination campaigns.” Read more.
Fearing ‘The Growth of Christianity Like Never Before’ Iranian Authorities Escalate Crackdown on Christians in Ahwaz, Shiraz, Esfahan and Kermanshah
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has intensified its crackdown on Iranian Christians during recent weeks. This has resulted in the arrest of a number of Christians in Ahwaz, Shiraz, Esfahan and Kermanshah. (The interview is concerning this issue).
In this regard, a reporter of Hrana (Human Rights activists’ news agency) has conducted an interview with the head of Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News, Saman Kamvar.
The following is a transcription of that interview:
Mr. Kamvar, as you know, groups of Christian citizens were arrested in major cities like Ahwaz, Esfahan and Shiraz. What do you think is the reason for the increased crackdown and opposition by the regime towards religious minorities, especially Christians in Iran?
These hardships against religious minorities come following the mono-dimensional view of the regime towards the political, cultural and religious issues. Their definitions of alien and non-alien are getting more restricted and more groups of people are being considered aliens. For many years it was Baha’is whose rights were being violated more than others. However, more and more violations of rights are being applied against Christians, Sufis and Shi’ite Muslims who believe in a different kind of Shi’ite faith. Today, evangelical Christians, dissident ayatollahs, Baha’is and Sunni Muslims are all under pressure, threat and terror by the Islamic Regime of Iran.
On the other hand, the ruling regime of Iran seeks its legitimacy from religion. So, it wants religion to support its legitimacy. Today, the regime of Iran crackdowns on Christians, especially Christian converts, for it is observing the growth of Christianity like never before. This fact has made them concerned. In conclusion we can say that unfortunately, the regime cannot tolerate other thoughts. What this religious regime tries to demonstrate is that there is only one legitimate religion and all other religions are illegitimate. Read more…
Nigeria: Gunmen Kill Three More Christians Near Jos Hours After Suicide Car Bomb Attack Against Church
“Gunmen shot dead three Christians in Nigeria near the flashpoint city of Jos, hours after 10 people were killed in a suicide bombing and related violence at a church, an official said Monday.
In a separate incident in the northern city of Kano, gunmen in a car opened fire early Monday on a police station that has been the target of several attacks, wounding two officers, according to residents.
The gunmen near Jos struck late Sunday in a village south of the city where Christian-Muslim tensions ran high after the church attack, state government spokesman Pam Ayuba told AFP, though the two attacks were not thought to be linked.
‘Unknown gunmen, in an apparent ambush late Sunday, waylaid and shot dead three people and injured three others — all Christians — in Chugwi village,’ Ayuba said.
Such violence has occurred repeatedly in and around Jos, located in the middle belt region of Africa’s most populous nation between the mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.
Clashes between Christian and Muslim ethnic groups in the area have killed thousands in recent years.
‘We suspect that the attackers were herdsmen. They left with the handsets of those killed and called numbers on their phones to alert their (the victims’) relations that they were responsible for the killings,’ he said from the scene of the attack.
Ayuba, who is a native of the Christian village, said no arrests have been made. The victims included two brothers aged 25 and 30, he said.
Three other people at Dogo Garba, a nearby hamlet, were wounded by the same gunmen and were taken to a nearby government hospital for treatment, he added.” Read more.
Unfunctionally Nutty: Outrage as Syria Stays on UN Human Rights Body
In addition to this senseless decision, the “we-seek-to-be-Sharia-compliant-and-never-hurt-Muslim-feelings” United Nations has called upon the US military to punish the Qur’an burners for their “grave mistake.” It has appointed “let’s-turn-South-Korea-into-a-sea-of-fire” North Korea to head a conference on disarmament. It has appointed “let’s-stone-even-pregnant-women-to death-for-adultery” Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women. I think it’s high time for “still-equipped-with-a-smidgen-of-common-sense-and-dignity” countries to do what should have been done long ago and withdraw all funding for this useless organization. Otherwise, they might consider doing something else completely cockeyed, such as praising Libya’s “charged-and-wanted-for-war-crimes” dictator Muammar Gaddafi and his regime for its exceptionally good human rights record. Oh, wait …
By Jessica Elgot – “Campaigners have called a Unesco vote to keep Syria on the human rights committee a ‘lingering stain on the UN as a whole.’
The UN’s education, science and culture agency voted to keep Syria on its human rights committee, despite protests from the US and the UK. Syria will keep its seat on the Unesco board and human rights panel. The vote was 35 for, eight against, with 14 abstentions and one absent at the meeting in Paris today.
Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based UN Watch, said: ‘For Unesco to keep President Bashar al-Assad on a human rights committee while his regime mercilessly murders its own people is simply immoral, indefensible and an insult to Syria’s victims. While today’s text rightly condemns Syria’s violations — a welcome first for Unesco — the promised call to oust the regime from Unesco’s human rights panel has been completely excised.’
‘We’re left with words, but no teeth. By maintaining Assad in a position of global influence on human rights, Unesco today is sending absolutely the wrong message. It an unconscionable insult to the suffering people of Syria.
‘The world squandered a golden opportunity to expose the Assad regime’s lack of legitimacy. Politics simply trumped human rights, with too many Unesco diplomats fearing that if Syria were removed for its violations, many of them would be next.'” Read more.
Why Does U.N. Human Rights Council Turn A Blind Eye to Terrorism? – “Terrorism does not grow in a vacuum. It breeds on a ground of hatred. It thrives in an atmosphere that teaches extremism, and that legitimizes violence against civilians… Let us consider the record. Over the past decade, terrorist attacks were perpetrated in New York, in London, in Madrid, in Mumbai, in Iraq and in Jerusalem. These attacks, and many more, were carried out in the name of an extremist religious ideology. Thousands of innocents were killed. How many urgent sessions did this Council convene to condemn these atrocities? Not one. How many inquiries were created? Not one. How many resolutions were adopted in response to these attacks? Not one. Instead, when justice was served on Osama Bin Laden, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay questioned this act.” Read more.
UK: Vandals Desecrate Memorial Garden in Essex Dedicated to British Troops Who Died In Afghanistan
By ANGELLA JOHNSON AND POLLY DUNBAR – “A memorial garden for British troops killed in Afghanistan has been desecrated by vandals who struck at a military chapel in Essex.
A plaque in honour of seven soldiers who lost their lives in 2007 was smashed to pieces and a wooden cross destroyed.
News of the attack comes after The Mail on Sunday last week revealed how an armed mob in Libya had filmed themselves desecrating the war graves of more than 150 British servicemen at Benghazi.
The latest outrage happened in the memorial garden in the grounds of the chapel of The Royal Anglian Regiment in Warley, Brentwood.
The garden was built in honour of nine soldiers from the regiment who died during the same tour five years ago. Lance Corporal Darren George, a member of the regiment who was 22 when he became the first British casualty of the Afghan war in April 2002, has a plaque devoted to him inside the chapel.
Last night, his widow Sarah condemned the vandalism, which left pieces of the memorial scattered across the ground along with flowers from a wreath.
‘I couldn’t believe it when I heard,’ she said. ‘It’s disgusting that anybody would do something as nasty as that. I hope the police find whoever did it. The timing was just so callous.’
Essex Police last night confirmed that they were aware of the damage. Retired Royal Anglian Major Tony Jones, 59, who oversees the chapel, said: ‘The damage was mindless thuggery, as far as I can see. They snapped the plaque in half. I feel sad about it.
‘We have never had problems before but it is the only memorial site we have out in the open. We will be replacing it – some local people have already offered to pay for it.’” Read more.
Nigeria: Suspected Suicide Car Bomb Attack at Church Kills 11 in Jos
Update: Latest reports now indicate 11 killed, many more injured …

“Jos, Nigeria (CNN) — Tensions ran high in the central Nigerian city of Jos on Sunday in the aftermath of an explosion outside a Catholic church that left six people dead, according to hospital and government officials.
The apparent car bomb attack happened outside of St. Finbar’s Catholic Church, according to Plateau Gov. Jonah David Jang.
A spokesman for the Plateau state government, Machias Abraham Yiljab, said three bodies were at the scene of the explosion.
Ishaya Pam, chief medical director of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, said in a statement that the hospital had three bodies and was treating 14 people for wounds suffered in the explosion.
He said additional people had been wounded in the blast, but had been treated and released.

Afghanistan: Rogue US Soldier Kills 16 Civilians, Afghan President Calls It ‘Intentional Murders’, New Mass Rioting Expected
If there is no mass rioting within the next couple of days, only one conclusion can be drawn: The unintentional burning of Qur’ans is much worse than the intentional killing of innocent men, women and children …
“A US soldier in Afghanistan has killed at least 16 civilians and wounded five after entering their homes in Kandahar province, senior local officials say.
He left his military base in the early hours of the morning and opened fire in at least two homes; women and children were among the dead.
Nato said it was investigating the ‘deeply regrettable incident’.
Anti-US sentiment is already high in Afghanistan after US soldiers burnt copies of the Koran last month.
US officials have apologised repeatedly for the incident at a Nato base in Kabul, but they failed to quell a series of protests and attacks that killed at least 30 people and six US troops.
Local people have reportedly gathered near the base in Panjwai district to protest about Sunday’s killings, and the US embassy is advising against travel to the area.
Lt Gen Adrian Bradshaw, deputy commander of Nato-led forces, said he was unable to ‘explain the motivation behind such callous acts’, adding that ‘our thoughts and prayers are with those caught in this tragedy’.” Read more.
