“(AGI) Vienna- An Austrian national was arrested in Vienna and charged with terrorism. Detectives believe he was planning to crash a plane into the Bundestag, German parliament headquarters in Berlin. The suspect, 25-year-old Thomas al-J., is a young man who has converted to Islam. He was arrested Wednesday in his apartment in the Austrian capital and has also been accused of recruiting terrorists in order to send them to jihad training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and of funding terrorist organizations. The Bundestag hypothesis was published in Austrian newspaper ‘Kronen Zeitung'” Source.

Oh oh, turns out the suspect is a Muslim.  Authorities are saying that the tight-lipped reservist does not appear to have known ties to any terror organization, so it must be some kind of odd one-in-a-million coincidence.  And the fact that Melaku’s notebook contained a page containing the words ‘al Qaeda’, ‘Taliban rules’, ‘mujahidin’ and ‘defeated coalition forces’ is a head-scratching one-in-a-musillion …

“Yonathan Melaku, a Lance Corporal Marine Corps reservist who lives in Alexandria, Virginia and is Muslim, has been identified as the suspect arrested less than a mile from the Pentagon.

Mr Melaku, 22, was taken into custody early Friday under suspicion that he posed a potential terrorist threat to the Pentagon, a highly sensitive site in the post-9/11 world.

At first, media reported police ‘found ammonium nitrate, ammunition and al Qaeda literature’ in his car, which was parked in bushes near the Pentagon.

Later, FBI Special Agent Brenda Heck told reporters: No explosives were found in the vehicle, a red 2007 Nissan.

A backpack the detained man was carrying held bags labelled ‘ammonium nitrate’ and filled with five pounds of material. But upon investigation, it turned out to be ‘non-explosive unknown material’, according to Ms Heck.” Read more.

By Jibran Khan – “The students of a madrassa try to force a child to convert. A relative is attacked for defending him, and accused of blasphemy. A priest: ‘This is a common practice in the region. Many cases of forced conversions are not made known’. The authorities turn a blind eye to the problem.

Ten Christian families were forced to flee from Chak 68, Arifwala, in Khanewal district, for fear of the consequences of an accusation of blasphemy. A Christian boy of eight years, Ihtesham, nicknamed ‘Sunny’ went to buy ice in a market, and was surrounded and harassed by students of a madrassa, an Islamic religious school. They asked him to recite verses from the Koran, those every Muslim reads the so-called ‘Kalma’, in short the statement that ‘there is no God but Allah ….’ They asked him to renounce his religion and convert to Islam.

An uncle of Sunny, Dildar Masih, seeing that his nephew was in trouble, because of the students, intervened. Sunny explained to him that they were bullying him to renounce his religion. Dildar addressed the boys, he rebuked them and told Sunny to go home. The boys told of the incident to the religious leaders at the madrasas. The latter announced that Dildar Masih had committed blasphemy, making fun of Koranic verses, and the loudspeaker of the madrasa urged all to punish the blasphemer, to set an example.” Read more.

By YAAKOV KATZ – “Iran has been caught red-handed in 10 different attempts in recent years to transfer weaponry to terrorists throughout the Middle East, including a recent case, in April, when a shipment of advanced missiles was caught en-route to Taliban forces in Afghanistan, according to a United Nations report obtained Thursday by The Jerusalem Post.

The report was submitted three weeks ago to the Security Council by a UN group of experts that monitors compliance with UN sanctions imposed on Iran. The report was leaked to the Internet and obtained by a number of leading Israeli defense analysts.

The report documents all 10 cases of arms smuggling, including the case of the Victoria cargo ship, which was stopped by the Israel Navy earlier this year carrying arms for Hamas. In the most recent case cited, British forces in Afghanistan found a weapons shipment of advanced Iranian-made anti-ship missiles and 122 mm. rockets en route to Taliban forces in Afghanistan.” Read more.

By JAMES WALSH – “An Ohio man who once lived in Eden Prairie was arrested Thursday morning in Columbus, becoming the 20th person of Somali descent charged in Minnesota for allegedly supporting the terror group Al-Shabab.

Ahmed Hussein Mahamud, 26, made his initial appearance Thursday morning in federal court for the Southern District of Ohio. He is on his way to Minnesota to face charges that he provided money and personnel to Al-Shabab, a group defined as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department.

Al-Shabab is fighting a civil war for control of Somalia. A Minnesota man was killed last week while attempting a suicide bombing on behalf of Al-Shabab. His family believes the man is Farah Mohamed Beledi.

Beledi was one of 19 people who have been indicted in Minnesota for allegedly providing material support to a terrorist organization.” Read more.

“The cathedral in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri was heavily damaged in a June 7 bombing.

‘St. Patrick’s Cathedral was seriously damaged, windows and doors [were] destroyed, the whole building was shaken to its foundations by the violence of the explosion,’ said Bishop Oliver Doeme.

Local authorities said that the Islamist group Boko Haram was responsible for the attack on the cathedral as well as recent attacks on a church, a school, and police stations.

Founded in Maiduguri in 2002, Boko Haram (the words mean ‘Western or non-Islamic education is a sin’) seeks the imposition of sharia in Nigeria.” Read more.

14 Nigerian Islamists arrested after deadly bomb attacks – “Police in northern Nigeria said on Thursday they have arrested 14 suspected Islamists thought to be linked to bomb attacks on a church and police stations that killed 14 people this week. The arrests were made in the troubled city of Maiduguri, where attacks blamed on an extremist sect have killed dozens in recent months.” Read more.

In Punjab, a Christian can’t present the provincial budget – “Several provincial legislators in Punjab belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have objected to Punjab cabinet member Kamran Michael presenting the budget on grounds that he is Christian, sources within the party told The Express Tribune.” Read more.

It said that new standards to be enforced by Ofsted should enable schools to take action against staff who demonstrate unacceptable views.

The Education Bill will also include a stronger focus on pupils’ ‘spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.’

The Prevent strategy quotes the example of Mohammed Sidique Khan, the leader of the July 7 bombers, who was a learning mentor at Hillside Primary School in Leeds.

Another example, not quoted, is that of Zahoor Iqbal, who was found guilty of helping a man planning to kidnap and execute a British soldier in Birmingham, and worked as an ‘achievement mentor’ at Saltley School in the city.” Read more.
