Central African Republic: At Least 17 Killed After Islamists Attack Church That Shielded Thousands Of Refugees

By Morgan Lee, The Christian Post – “Seventeen were killed and 10 wounded on Monday after Muslim rebels in the Central African Republic attacked a church which had provided refuge for thousands of the country’s beleaguered citizens. The Rev. Thibault Ndemaguia confirmed the number to the Associated Press several hours after the attacks.

Residents believe that the fighters attacked the Catholic Church compound in Bambari seeking revenge for the death of a young Muslim man, reported Reuters. Between 4,000 and 6,000 Christians are believed to have taken shelter at St. Joseph Cathedral of Bambari.

The Rev. Firmin Gbagoua, a priest at St. Joseph’s, told Reuters that he believed the attackers assumed the cathedral was hiding members of the Christian militia, or anti-balaka.

A Seleka official defended the actions of his group and told Reuters that his group had been attacked by the anti-balaka.

‘All we did was retaliate,’ a spokesperson for the group, Ahmat Negad, said.

Some blamed French forces for insufficiently acting to prevent the attack, though the military argued that after it had been attacked it ‘immediately returned fire.’ It did not mention whether it had been the country’s Christians or Muslim fighters who had targeted it.

The Central African Republic’s violence stems back to the takeover of the majority Christian country last year by the mostly Muslim Seleka rebel group, whose time in power was marked by a string of rights abuses that spawned the anti-balaka.” Read more.

By BosNewsLife – “Minority Christians in Syria and neighboring Iraq faced more upheaval Monday, July 7, after an Islamic group expelled tens of thousands of residents from their homes and crucified at least nine people.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) reportedly forced some 30,000 people to leave their houses in the eastern Syrian town of Shuheil. Many fear their homes will be looted, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a respected monitoring group.

The ISIL, which declared the territory in Syria and Iraq a ‘caliphate,’ or Islamic state, also nailed nine men to a cross in Syria’s Aleppo province last week as punishment for rebellion, several sources said.

Usually the men ISIL crucifies are shot in the head first, then hung for public viewing with their arms tied to a horizontal beam, according to observers familiar with the situation.

However one of the nine men was ‘crucified alive for eight hours’ in the town of al-Bab, said the Syrian Observatory. The report didn’t specify if the man was killed.

It was unclear whether Syrian troops, who apparently advanced in and around the northern city of Aleppo on Monday, July 7, would be able to halt the ISIL fighters. Yet, most Christians have already been forced to flee Syria and Iraq, where the head of the Chaldean-Catholic Church, Patriarch Louis Raphael I Sako, fears Christian life will eventually come to an end in the region.

‘In ten years there will perhaps be 50,000 Christians left’ in Iraq, he said in a statement released by Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need and obtained by BosNewsLife. ‘Prior to 2003, this figure was about 1.2 million. Within ten years we have shrunk to a community of perhaps four to five hundred thousand faithful,’ he added.

‘When I was in Turkey recently ten Christian families from Mosul arrived. And in the space of only one week twenty families left Alqosh, a completely Christian town not far from Mosul. This is very serious, we are losing our community.'” Read more.

AINA News – “The water purification plants in Mosul supply water for the city and surrounding areas. After taking control of Mosul on June 10, ISIS severely limited the water supply from al-Rashidiya and al-Slamiya water projects, which provide the Northern and Southern Nineveh Plain with potable water (AINA 2014-06-27, 2014-06-18). According to a report by the Hammurabi Human Rights Organization, ISIS is allowing only about 90 minutes of pumping per day.

The Assyrian towns of Baghdede, Karemlis, Bartella, Tel Kepe, Batnaya and Bashiqah — home to nearly 200,000 Assyrians — face severe water shortages.

Residents have begun digging wells to secure water, but are limited by a lack of funding.

The towns of Baghdede, Karemlis and Bartella, with a population of 70,000 Assyrians, require more than 20 Artesian wells to supply the water needs of the residents. Each well typically costs about $30,000 to install, with operating crews and generators. $600,000 is required to install these wells.

Donations have come forth. The Christian Endowment will finance 4 wells; the Consulate of The United Arab Emirates has pledged money for 4 wells.

The Hammurabi Human Rights Organization, an NGO based in Baghdad, has stated that it is prepared to begin installing wells pending funding.

If water shortage crisis is not resolved soon, Assyrians will be forced to abandon their homes and villages and move to areas where they can find water.” Source – AINA News.

Haaretz – “Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza militants early on Tuesday, dubbing the offensive ‘Operation Protective Edge.’ More than 50 targets were hit in the offensive.

Meanwhile, rocket fire on Israel’s south continued. According to the IDF, eight projectiles were launched between 2 and 6 A.M.

Militants in Gaza fired more than 85 rockets toward Israel on Monday evening, with Hamas openly claiming responsibility for some of the launches for the first time since the current round of fighting began. The rockets hit several major cities in the south and, also for the first time in the current fighting, caused alarms to go off in central Israel and Jerusalem. The barrages lightly wounded two Israelis and caused property damage.

The Israel Defense Forces called up 1,500 infantry and Border Police reservists in preparation for further escalation, after the security cabinet decided on Monday afternoon to intensify attacks against Hamas and other terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip. A senior official said the ministers want to refrain from a large-scale military operation for now, but they instructed the army to prepare for significant expansion of its current operations.

Palestinian officials said Gaza was bracing for further Israeli attacks. They said Hamas had evacuated likely targets and its leaders had gone underground lest Israel attempt to assassinate them. Hamas also issued a statement on Monday night demanding that the Palestinian Authority take action against Israel, saying ‘national unity sometimes requires paying a price.'” Read more.

Robert Spencer: Mainstream Media Attempting To Whitewash The New Islamic Caliphate

The mainstream media is fighting back.

The Islamic State, as it calls itself, has issued several declarations thick with Koranic citations and mainstream media to explain and justify its positions. Its conscious, explicit, and deeply rooted Islamic character has rattled mainstream media cages — to the extent that articles have begun to appear claiming that this new caliphate is no caliphate at all, so unlike its illustrious predecessors as to be unworthy of the name.

That was the central claim of an article that appeared in the New York Times Wednesday: ‘The Caliphate Fantasy’ by Khaled Diab, ‘an Egyptian-Belgian journalist based in Jerusalem.’ Diab complains: ‘The problem with this new caliphate… is that it is ahistorical, to say the least.’ Why? Because ‘the Abbasid caliphate, for example, which ruled from 750 to 1258, was an impressively dynamic and diverse empire.’ The Abbasid caliphate, Diab asserts, ‘thrived on multiculturalism, science, innovation, learning and culture — in sharp contrast to ISIS’ violent puritanism.’

Multiculturalism? Bat Ye’or, the pioneering historian of dhimmitude, the institutionalized second-class status Islamic law stipulates for non-Muslims in the Islamic state, notes of Jews and Christians in this ‘multicultural’ caliphate that ‘it was during the Abbasid period that their degrading status developed and was integrated into the legal system of the dar al-Islam.’ She writes of the crushing taxes that the Abbasids made the dhimmis pay, in accord with the Koran’s dictum that they ‘pay the jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued’ (9:29). ‘Money was extorted by blows, torture and death,’ Bat Ye’or writes, ‘particularly by crucifixion.’

Ultimately ‘the dhimmis, ruined by taxation, abandoned their lands and villages,’ hoping to escape to the anonymity of the city, whereupon a ‘drive to track down dhimmi peasants, organized throughout the Abbasid Empire, required a considerable number of participants, who were joined by brigands greedy for plunder and pillage.’ The plunder and pillage of the minority communities was considered to be their due Read more…

Some are calling this a misstep, but looting was the core of Mohammed’s conquests. His followers weren’t all that devout, they were looking for stuff to steal. That is why many of Mohammed’s original targets, including the Jews, were well off.

Like most thieves, Mohammed went where the money was.

Religion was a means for Mohammed to rob people. It’s not that different from what Al-Bagdadi is doing. The ‘spiritual’ aspect of martyrdom simply promised those of the Mohammedan bandits who died in the process of robbing people that they would enjoy the spoils of victory, e.g. food, women, wealth, in Islamic paradise.

By John Rossomando, IPT – “A Twitter post Thursday by supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), now calling itself the Islamic State (IS), has promised a Holocaust against the Jews.

‘The Real Zionist Holocaust is Predicted in the Hadiths! The Hour [resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them, and the tree will say: ‘Oh, Muslim, servant of God, there is a Jew behind me, kill him! THE PROMISED Holocaust,’ the terrorist group’s Islamic State Media a graphic posted on its @ISIS_Conquests’s Twitter account said.

This hadith has proven popular with Islamic extremists of all stripes, ranging from IS to Hamas – and even on television in the Middle East.

Daniel Pipes, an expert on jihadism, said the hadith likely was a recruitment tool.

‘​Yes, ​calling for a holocaust against Jews refers to a violently anti-Semitic strain among jihadis and will surely appeal to some of them,’ Pipes said in an email to the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

Anti-Semitic propaganda has played an important role in the terrorist group’s recruitment effort. Its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, placed Jews on the side of evil in a speech posted Tuesday on the Internet in which he called on Muslims to join him.

‘O ummah of Islam, the world today has been divided into two camps and two trenches … The camp of Islam and faith, and the camp of kufr (disbelief) and hypocrisy … all being led by America and Russia, and being mobilized by the Jews,’ al-Baghdadi said.

In another such video released on Twitter, IS told jihadists to ‘Break the crosses and destroy the lin­eage of the grand­sons of mon­keys.’

Ezekiel 38 is to Bible prophecy what Christ is to Christianity. Without it’s conditions satisfied, the end cannot be near.  Ezekiel 38 prophesies of a “Gog” (interpreted by yours truly to be Russia) who will lead an alliance of nations/groups (which includes Iran, Ezekiel 38:5-6 NASB) to attack Israel in the end-times. Some interpreters (myself included) see Israel as initially overrun; but in the end, Gog is “turned around” (Ezekiel 38:4) and ultimately defeated, along with his alliance. Gog and his alliance are destroyed by God through a great earthquake (Ezekiel 38:19-20) which leads to Gog and his forces turning their swords against one another. Ezekiel 38:21-22.

For most students of Bible prophecy, the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 in the modern-day seems imminent — even without the recent declaration by Sunni Salafi-jihadist al-Bagdadi of his establishment of the Islamic caliphate. (Not since 1924 has Islam been united under one leader (“caliph” or “sultan”) and one Muslim community. In 1924, Kemal Ataturk, president of Turkey and the sultan of the languishing Ottoman Empire renounced the sultanate and disbanded the Islamic empire in favor of a secular state. (Read more.) One example of the imminence of the tribulation is recent international pressure placed upon Israel to negotiate with the Palestinians in the formation of a two-state solution. At times in the peace process, it appeared as if the entire world was aligned against the Israelis, a condition bringing to mind several end-time prophecies about Israel: Zechariah 14:2; Zechariah 13:8-9; Revelation 11:2.

‘Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade Vows to Silence Church Bells in Bekaa,’ Naharnet, July 2, 2014 (thanks to Jerk Chicken):

The vague group known as the Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade vowed to task gunmen to attack churches in Lebanon and in the eastern Bekaa valley in particular.

The Brigade announced on its twitter account that a “specialized group of free jihadists were tasked with cleansing the Islamic state of Bekaa in particular and in Lebanon in general from the churches.”

“We will target crusaders in the state and in Lebanon to silence the ringing of the bells,” the group said.

The Brigade recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, previously known as the Islamic State of the Iraq and the Levant.

The Islamic State declared over the weekend the establishment of the “Islamic caliphate” led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ordering ordered Muslims worldwide to pledge allegiance to their chief, in a spectacular bid to extend their authority.

A “caliphate” is an Islamic form of government last seen under the Ottoman Empire.

The mysterious Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade had in the past claimed that it is an affiliate of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, but the ISIL later denied that.

On March 16, the Brigade engaged in a war of words with the al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, believed to be a local franchise of the Syria-based, Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front.

The dispute erupted after both groups claimed responsibility on Twitter for a deadly suicide bombing that rocked the Bekaa town of al-Nabi Othman.

The Brigade has claimed responsibility for several rocket and bomb attacks inside Lebanon, the last of which were the suicide blasts in Dahr al-Baydar and Raouche’s Duroy Hotel.

“Another significant reality now that the caliphate has been restored is that it is actually mandatory for the caliphate to engage in perpetual jihad until there are literally no non-Muslims left throughout the world, or they submit to being subjected peoples.” Sounds a little like something that a man named John once described about 2,000 year ago. Are we witnessing before our very eyes the fulfillment of the second Beast that will ultimately be destroyed forever by the Lord Himself as prophesied by Daniel? It certainly looks that way today. As such, “let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober” …

Revelation 13:15-18, “The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. ‘[T]he truth of the matter is that for all the challenges we face, all the problems that we have, if you had to be – if you had to choose any moment to be born in human history, not knowing what your position was going to be, who you were going to be, you’d choose this time. The world is less violent than it has ever been. It is healthier than it has ever been. It is more tolerant than it has ever been. It is better fed then it’s ever been. It is more educated than it’s ever been.’

On Sunday afternoon, my Twitter account lit up, as the various radical Muslims I follow erupted with jubilant declarations that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, or ISIS) had officially declared a caliphate – an Islamic state ruled by Islamic Shariah. No longer is it ISIS, but simply the Islamic State (IS). After an official meeting of ISIS’ shura (religious) council, they named their shadowy leader, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, to be the Emir al-Mu’minin, or the commander of the faithful – the first ‘caliph’ in roughly 90 years. The caliph is essentially a Muslim pope, president and general all rolled into one.

The potential implications for the world are absolutely profound. First, according to Islamic jurisprudence, once a caliph has been declared, it is mandatory upon all Muslims to make a pledge of allegiance to the sitting caliph, known in Arabic as the bay’ah. The bay’ah translated is as follows:

‘I pledge my allegiance to the Commander of the Faithful, to hear and obey, in hardship and in blessings, to establish the religion of Allah, and to enforce Allah’s Shariah, and to expand the order of Allah, to establish the global Islamic state.’

According to various hadith (Muslim sacred traditions found outside of the Quran), if one does not make the pledge, he will die the death of jahiliyya, or as a non-Muslim, and should be treated as a non-Muslim:

‘[W]hen he stands before Allah on the Day of Judgment, and one who dies without having bound himself by an oath of allegiance (to an Amir) will die the death of one belonging to the days of Jahillyya.’ (Abu Muslim 20: 4562)

Already, there have been numerous tribal leaders and jihadi groups that have pledged their allegiance to the caliph with their lives. What groups will follow? What might it look like if various groups such as Boko Haram in Nigeria, al-Shabab in Somalia and Kenya, al-Qaida in Yemen, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank, and perhaps even segments of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and throughout the world begin swearing allegiance to the caliph? The dangers of a snowballing trend is profound. Rather than having an Islamic State spanning segments of Syria and Iraq, there could be smaller segments of the Islamic State in numerous other nations.

Consider the fact that even here in the United States, Mohamed Elibiary, one of three senior fellows on President Obama’s Homeland Security Advisory Council, is an open supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, the goal of which is the re-establishment of the caliphate.” Read more.

Self-Declared ‘Caliph’ Wants To Rule World And ‘No One In Iraq Or Any Neighboring Country Will Be Safe From These Plans’ – “Based on recent battlefield victories in Iraq and Syria, the Iraqi militant and his followers believe that the world’s Muslims are going to flock to their cause… [but] while many kings and rulers styled themselves as caliphs, they didn’t have the religious authority that implied… Time will tell if Baghdadi’s grab for power will allow him to hold on to a piece of Iraq and Syria… The Ottoman Sultan declared himself a caliph in 1880, partly in the hopes that Indian Muslims would turn on the colonial British administration there. It didn’t work … The Taliban’s Mullah Omar tried the caliph gambit too. In 1996, shortly after after conquering Kandahar and on the verge of controlling Afghanistan, he wrapped himself in a cloak purported to have been worn by the prophet Mohamed and declared himself the leader of the world’s Muslims. Caliphate Leader To The Muslim World: “Terrify The Enemies Of Allah And Seek Death”

Al Arabiya News – “The leader of the al-Qaeda offshoot now calling itself the Islamic State called on Muslims with military, medical and managerial skills to flock to its newly-declared pan-Islamic state, in an audio recording released Tuesday.

‘Those who can immigrate to the Islamic State should immigrate, as immigration to the house of Islam is a duty,’ said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The newly named ‘caliph’ said the appeal especially applied to ‘judges and those who have military and managerial and service skills, and doctors and engineers in all fields.’

Baghdadi also addressed the group’s fighters, saying that ‘your brothers in all the world are waiting’ to be rescued by them.

‘Terrify the enemies of Allah and seek death in the places where you expect to find it,’ he said. ‘Your brothers, on every piece of this earth, are waiting for you to rescue them.’

The audio message, titled ‘A Message to the Mujahideen and the Muslim Ummah in the Month of Ramadan,’ was posted online through the group’s media arm. Another account affiliated to the group posted translations in English, Russian, French, German and Albanian.

‘By Allah, we will take revenge, by Allah we will take revenge, even if after a while,’ Baghdadi said. ‘Fighters should ’embrace the chance and champion Allah’s religion through jihad,’ he added.

He called on Muslims to immigrate to the self-styled caliphate, saying it was their duty. In a direct, confident message, he urged them to ‘listen, realize and stand and free yourself from the shackles of weakness, and stand in the face of tyranny.’

‘Let the world know that we are living today in a new era. Whoever was heedless must now be alert. Whoever was sleeping must now awaken. Whoever was shocked and amazed must comprehend. The Muslims today have a loud, thundering statement, and possess heavy boots,’ said Baghdadi, according to the posted translation.

‘They have a statement that will cause the world to hear and understand the meaning of terrorism, and boots that will trample the idol of nationalism, destroy the idol of democracy and uncover its deviant nature.’

It was his first purported message since the group – previously known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Syria (ISIS) – proclaimed the caliphate on Sunday and declared him its leader, in an audacious bid to sweep away state borders and redraw the map of the Middle East.

The militant group, which operates in both Iraq and Syria, said their caliphate would spread from Aleppo in northern Syria to Diyala in eastern Iraq, and ordered Muslims in those areas to ‘obey’ and pledge allegiance to their new leader.” Read more.

Colorado: Young Woman Converts To Islam, Develops Newfound Hatred Of Christians And Desire To Kill For “Allah”

By Alan Gathright, ABC 7News Denver – “The FBI says a 19-year-old Colorado woman has been arrested while trying to board a flight at Denver International Airport with the goal of meeting with a terrorist group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS.

A federal criminal complaint states that between Sept. 7, 2013 and April 8, 2014, Shannon Maureen Conley, together with others, tried to provide material support and resources, including personnel and expert advice, to a foreign terrorist organization.

ISIS insurgents have been fighting to topple the governments of Iraq and Syria.

Authorities began investigating Conley on Nov. 5, 2013, when the pastor at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada called local police and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to report a teen had been spotted suspiciously taking notes at the church’s main campus at 6120 Ward Road on several Sundays at October, according to a federal affidavit supporting the criminal complaint.

Church officials have a heightened awareness about security because Faith Bible Chapel was the scene of a shooting in December 2007 when a man named Matthew Murray opened fire at the church’s Youth with a Mission Training Center, killing two missionaries. A few hours later, Murray went on a shooting spree at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, killing two more people. He was shot by a church security guard and eventually took his own life.

So Faith Bible Chapel staff reacted quickly when they believed Conley was taking notes on various locations and the layout of the campus, the affidavit said.

Church staff approached Conley and asked to see her notes, but she refused.

Conley then became confrontational with FBC staff, citing her own Islamic religious views, church officials told federal investigators…

Conley said, ‘I hate those people.’ …

Conley told the investigators she does not like Israel or FBC’s active and vocal support for Israel.

Conley said she noticed she was being followed by church staff on the campus and felt they treated her like a terrorist. Conley told the investigators that she reasoned that, ‘If they think I’m a terrorist, I’ll give them something to think I am,’ according to the affidavit.

She started keeping a notebook and acted like she was diagramming the church to alarm them. Conley soon got into an argument with the pastor and was asked to leave.

Conley said that Jihad to her is war against ‘kafir’ (which the affidavit describes as a derogatory Arabic term for non-Muslims) to protect Muslim lands.” Read more.
