Charisma News – “Earlier this month, news reports surfaced out of Saudi Arabia that raised the red flag for Christians.

Todd Nettleton, a spokesman for Voice of the Martyrs USA, says, ‘The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia—the top Islamic official in the country of Saudi Arabia—has declared that it is ‘necessary to destroy all the churches of the region.’ Nettleton goes on to note that the report hasn’t surfaced anywhere except on the Council on Foreign Relations Web site, which was then picked up by The Atlantic.

As Saudi Arabia is ranked second on the Open Doors World Watch List (a compilation of the 50 countries where persecution of Christians is most severe), the news is not really a surprise. There is no provision for religious freedom in the constitution of this Islamic kingdom.

All citizens must adhere to Islam, and conversion to another religion is punishable by death. Public Christian worship is forbidden; worshippers risk imprisonment, lashing, deportation and torture. Evangelizing Muslims and distributing non-Islamic materials is illegal. Muslims who convert to Christianity risk being subjected to honor killings, and foreign Christian workers have been exposed to abuse from employers.

Sheikh Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdullah, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, created an implication with his assertion. Nettleton explains, ‘This was in a meeting with Kuwaiti officials who came to Saudi Arabia. They were asking this Islamic official, ‘What should we do about the churches?’ His statement was, ‘There should be no Christian churches on the Arabian Peninsula.”

According to the report, the delegation wanted to confirm Shariah’s position on churches. Essentially, Nettleton says, ‘If you have churches in Kuwait, which they do, they should be destroyed. The interesting thing about this is that there are no churches in Saudi Arabia. There are no church buildings that are allowed to exist there. So he clearly wasn’t talking only for his own country. He was trying to export this ideology to the surrounding countries.’

This proclamation could affect churches in Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Nettleton observes that ‘in most of these countries, we’re not talking about a lot of churches; we’re talking about a few that are allowed to exist primarily to serve foreigners that are living in that country.’

However, the U.N. Human Rights Council has yet to take a stand on such blatant violations of freedom of religion. How the governments implement this declaration is yet to be determined.” Read more.

By Erica Ritz, The Blaze – “Christians angered by the killing of four Christians in weekend sectarian violence clashed Sunday with a mob throwing rocks and firebombs, killing one and turning Cairo’s main Coptic cathedral into a battleground.

The clashes raised tempers in an already tense political atmosphere, as workers shut down the country’s trains in a strike over wages and a dispute over the nation’s chief prosecutor entered a new phase – all signs of two years of unending turmoil.

Reacting to Sunday’s violence, the Muslim Brotherhood’s political party blamed ‘dubious’ attempts by unnamed parties to broaden instability in Egypt by igniting sectarian violence and spreading chaos.

But a liberal opposition group, the Popular Current, said the clashes were symptomatic of the failure of the state to protect its citizens, calling on Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and his government to resign.

Morsi said in a statement late Sunday that he spoke to Pope Tawadros II by phone. He gave orders to authorities to guard the cathedral and citizens in the area, adding that protecting the lives of Muslims and Christians was a state responsibility.

‘I consider any attack on the cathedral as an attack on me, personally,’ he said, according to the statement from his office.

The clashes at the St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral began just after hundreds of angry Christians left the complex to stage an anti-government march following the funeral for the four Christians killed in sectarian clashes Saturday.

A mob, described by witnesses as residents of the area, pelted them with rocks and firebombs and fired birdshot, forcing them back inside the complex. Few police were present, despite Morsi’s alleged instructions.” Read more.

Kidnappings Targeting Christians On The Rise In Egypt

Mining Gazette – “Ezzat Kromer’s resistance to his kidnappers did not last long. One of the masked gunmen fired a round between his feet as he sat behind the wheel of his car and said with chilling calm, ‘The next one will go into your heart.’

The Christian gynecologist says he was bundled into his abductors’ vehicle, forced to lie under their feet in the back seat for a 45-minute ride, then dumped in a small cold room while his kidnappers contacted his family over a ransom.

For the next 27 hours, he endured beatings, insults and threats to his life, while blindfolded, a bandage sealing his mouth and cotton balls in his ears.

Kromer’s case is part of a dramatic rise of kidnappings targeting Christians, including children, in Egypt’s southern province of Minya, home to the country’s largest concentration of Christians but also a heartland for Islamist hard-liners.

The kidnappings are mostly blamed on criminal gangs, which operate more freely amid Egypt’s collapse in security since the 2011 fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak.

Crime has risen in general across Egypt, hitting Muslims as well. But the wave of kidnappings in Minya has specifically targeted Christians, and victims, church leaders and rights activists ultimately blame the atmosphere created by the rising power of hard-line Islamists.

They contend criminals are influenced by the rhetoric of radical clerics depicting Egypt’s Christian minority as second-class citizens and see Christians as fair game, with authorities less likely to investigate crimes against the community.

Over the past two years, there have been more than 150 reported kidnappings in the province — all of them targeting Christians, according to a top official at the Interior Ministry, which is in charge of the police.

‘We find this offensive to have Evangelical Christians and the Catholic Church to be listed among known terrorist groups,’ said Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. ‘It is dishonorable for any U.S. military entity to allow this type of wrongheaded characterization.’

The incident occurred during an Army Reserve Equal Opportunity training brief on extremism. Topping the list is Evangelical Christianity. Other organizations listed included Catholicism, Al Qaeda, Hamas, the Ku Klux Klan, Sunni Muslims, and Nation of Islam.

Egyptian Female Activist: Egypt Was Much Better Under Hosni Mubarak

Ziada is in Marseille to attend the Forum promoted by the Anna Lindh Foundation.

‘Over 30% of women are ‘caring women’ like widows or divorcees who are working to support their families’, said the activist. ‘They work at a time when men are having a hard time finding a proper job’.

In the past, said Ziada, poor women benefited from measures supporting their businesses, which were sponsored by Suzanne Mubarak, wife of the president who was toppled in the January 25 revolution. Now ‘they have no one sponsoring them’, she said.

The activist, who was awarded a prize in 2010 by the Anna Lindh Foundation, told ANSAmed that ‘it is sad to say that the situation for women was much better during the Mubarak era’. ‘It was not the best possible but it was still better than today because there was a state which supported women’s rights’, she noted. ‘Suzanne Mubarak was a women’s rights activist before being the president’s wife and a staunch supporter of new laws in favour of women’, continued the activist. ‘Now we have a regime which is very hostile to women, an extremist regime of the Muslim Brotherhood which doesn’t like women, least of all in public life and the economy’. The regime is so hostile, the activist noted, that it accuses women of ‘causing men’s unemployment’ based on the conviction that if they stayed home their jobs would go to men. ‘However it’s a problem of qualifications’, noted Ziada, which has nothing to do with being women or men.

Ever since stepping into power, President Mohamed Morsi has started a sweeping campaign to abolish all laws supporting women, the activist also noted, on the grounds that they were passed under the Mubarak era and are therefore ‘meaningless’.” Read more.

Chris (who didn’t want his last name published) was shocked when he had the blinds to the viewing area of the Dennis R. Timbrell Recreation Centre pool in Flemingdon Park shut on him and then was told by staffers it was for ‘religious reasons.’

‘I spoke to a staff member and she told me that it’s because of Muslim women, that we’re not allowed to look at them or whatever,’ Chris, 38, told the Toronto Sun Friday. ‘I don’t think religion has a role to play in a public pool.’

Chris said he enrolled his daughter online through the city’s website and registered her for the Ultra Swim 1: Female class – a nine-week course offered for free at the community centre.

Nowhere on the form did it mention that males could not watch the lessons.

So, when he showed up with his child at the pool on March 28 and again on Thursday night, he was confused when told he wasn’t allowed to watch.

‘She doesn’t have a lot of friends and I wanted her to swim with girls,’ Chris explained. ‘I don’t know what parent wouldn’t want to watch their child participate. There were other fathers there who weren’t too happy.’

Local Councillor John Parker hadn’t heard of the particular case until the Sun contacted him Friday, but said the dad’s point is a ‘legitimate one’ and raises a ‘fair issue.’ …

Crackpot Kim Jong-un’s regime today issued a chilling threat to British diplomats warning them to get out of Pyongyang.

Alarmingly the North Korean government said it would not be able to guarantee the safety of embassies from April 10.

Russian diplomats have also been advised to evacuate.

Today the Foreign Office added that it is ‘considering next steps’ after the threat.

It is still unclear why next Wednesday has been set as a deadline – but it is sure to spark fears despot Kim Jong-un will launch an attack after that date.

This week South Korean workers employed in factories in the North were also told to leave by April 10.

The dramatic development came as North Korea moved a second missile to its east coast in a further threat to Japan, South Korea and US Pacific bases.

The rogue state has already transported a Musudan missile with a range of 1,800 miles (3,000km) to the same area.

Today, a Foreign Office spokesman reportedly said: ‘We can confirm that the British Embassy in Pyongyang received a communication from the North Korean government this morning.

‘It said that the North Korean government would be unable to guarantee the safety of embassies and international organisations in the country in the event of conflict from April 10.’ …

Two rockets have been loaded onto mobile launchers and hidden in special underground facilities on North Korea’s east coast , according to a government official.

The official added: ‘The North is apparently intent on firing the missiles without prior warning.’

The range of the second missile is unknown though it is believed to be an inter-continental ballistic KN-08 missile, which is untested by the regime.

For example, its self-proclaimed “prophet” ascended into heaven on a horse-like creature with the head of a woman and the tail of a peacock. This never-before-seen animal must be proof that Mohammed was really a “prophet”, right? So if you come down with the flu and the heat of hell is giving you a fever, do what the greatest man to ever walk the earth says and drink a cold glass of camel urine. But if you’re suffering from cancer, hepatitis or kidney infections because of any peace treaty with Israel, perhaps a few verses of the Qur’an will cure you. Then again, the hell-bound descendants of apes and pigs may have figured out a way to somehow inhibit the Qur’an’s healing powers. Pentagon Activates Missile Shield As North Korea Moves Second Missile To East Coast, Orders All Embassies To Evacuate Pyongyang

France 24 – “North Korea has placed two of its intermediate range missiles on mobile launchers and hidden them on the east coast of the country, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported on Friday, citing intelligence sources in South Korea.

The report could not be confirmed, but may be intended to demonstrate a threat by the North to either Japan or to U.S. bases on Guam. The North has threatened to attack bases on Guam if the United States launches a strike on it.

‘Early this week, the North has moved two Musudan missiles on the train and placed them on mobile launchers,’ Yonhap cited a senior military official familiar with the matter as saying.

South Korea’s Defence Ministry declined to comment on the report.

There were unconfirmed media reports that the North had moved missiles to the east coast on Thursday, although it was not clear what kind of missiles had been deployed.

Speculation has centred on two kinds of missiles neither of which is known to have been tested.

One was the so-called Musudan missile which South Korea’s Defence Ministry estimates has a range of up to 3,000 km (1,865 miles), the other is called the KN-08, which is believed to be an inter-continental ballistic missile, which is again untested.” Read more.

Egypt: Christian Boy Kidnapped At Knifepoint, Abductors Open Fire On Church

By Raymond Ibrahim, Jihad Watch – “Just as Islamic terrorists feed off of Christian minorities by kidnapping and ransoming them, especially in lawless regions—like ‘liberated’ Iraq and on-its-way to being ‘liberated’ Syria—last Sunday, four armed and masked men kidnapped a 12-year-old Coptic Christian boy, Abanoub Ashraf, as he was walking to his church in ‘Arab-Spring-liberated’ Egypt. Right before he reached the St. Paul Church in Shubra al-Khayma district, the men put a knife to his throat, dragged him to their car, opened fire on the church, and then sped away. The kidnappers later called the family asking for five million Egyptian pounds in ransom—almost the equivalent to one million U.S. dollars, likely an impossible amount to raise.

During a live interview with Wael Ibrashi concerning this incident, Coptic Bishop Marcus said that, while the immediate motive behind the kidnapping is money, the other purpose is to frighten Christian families from sending their children to church. Otherwise, why kidnap him from right in front of the church door? (Considering that some Egyptian clerics consider attending church as worse than attending bars and brothels, the kidnappers likely deem this the ‘altruistic’ side of their greed and hate.) The kidnappers also covered their faces only right before they pounced on the boy, displaying their confidence that there would be no repercussions.

When Ibrashi asked the bishop ‘previously [during Mubarak’s era] there always used to be guards; who removed the guard from the church?’ a dejected sounding Bishop Marcus responded, ‘I don’t know; ask security not us.’ Similarly, according to the 12-year-old’s distraught family, while the local security agency has portrayed itself as doing all it can to discover the boy—that, is, on Egyptian media—’it has not contacted us, nor asked us about anything whatsoever.'” Source – Jihad Watch.

The National Council for Women (NCW) sent two letters to Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim and Minister of Justice Ahmed Mekki on Thursday requesting the ministries’ intervention in combatting this phenomenon.

Eid stated that such marriages taking place is a political disaster. ‘It’s disastrous that female refugees fleeing their warring country would meet such treatment in Egypt,’ he said.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NCW cited a memorandum sent last week to President Mohamed Morsi by the International Union for Egyptian Women, calling for immediate intervention to stop such marriages.
