By AWR Hawkins, Breitbart – “Islamic leaders in Dearborn, Mich. are holding a rally this Friday night to build momentum for the passage of laws that prohibit speech or expression that hurts ‘the religious feelings of Muslims.’

Put together in response to the film ‘Innocence of Muslims,’ rally organizer Tarek Baydoun said, ‘We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to sow the seeds of hate and discord against the religious beliefs of others.’ Rally co-organizer Osama Siblani added, ‘There is a need for deterrent legal measures against those individuals or groups that want to damage relations between people, spread hate and incite violence.’

In other words, it appears one of the goals of the rally will be the eventual creation of blasphemy laws: laws that would reflect an international movement toward banning speech that is critical of Islam or Mohammed.

Ironically, this rally comes at a time when hate crimes toward Muslims in America have dropped more 50% in the last ten years. For example, in 2001 hate crimes against Muslims constituted approximately 28% of all such crimes in America, but in 2010 that category of crime against Muslims only constituted 12.7%.

This drop in crime was not due to blasphemy laws or other curbs on free speech.” Source – Breitbart.

‘We reject this. We cannot accept it,’ he said, speaking of insults to Islam. ‘And we will be the opponents of those who do this. We will not allow anyone to do this by word or deed.’

The warning that ‘We will not allow anyone to do this’ was spoken through a translator and did not appear in the prepared text of Morsi’s speech.

Mentioning ‘an organized campaign against Islamic sanctities,’ Morsi said the U.N. has a ‘main responsibility’ in addressing Islamophobia, which ‘is starting to have implications that clearly affect international peace and security.’

‘We all have to work together,’ Morsi said. ‘We must join hands in confronting these regressive ideas that hinder cooperation among us. We must move together to confront extremism and discrimination and incitement to hatred on the basis of religion or race.'” Read more.

Egyptian President Asks Egyptian Consulate to Monitor Case Against Anti-Israel Activist In New York – “President Mohamed Morsy asked Yousef Zada, Egypt’s consul general in New York, to closely follow the case of Egyptian-American journalist and human rights activist Mona Eltahawy, who was arrested in New York City on Tuesday… Eltahawy was arrested for vandalising a pro-Israel ad in a subway station at Times Square, while another woman who supported the billboard’s content, Pamela Hall, was standing against the wall to prevent her from doing so. The journalist was arrested while spraying pink paint over the phrase, ‘In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Pakistan: 16-Year-Old Christian Girl Gang Raped For Hours By Muslims

The rape occurred in broad daylight, for hours, in a private home where three young Muslims – all under 30 – abused a defenseless girl. A story, Fr. Bonnie Mendes tells AsiaNews that demonstrates ‘the powerlessness of the poor in Pakistan,’ which is reflected ‘in all its evidence in events such as the sexual abuse of Shumaila’ which took place on September 20 last, but has only now been revealed by the press. A story similar to that which occurred Sept. 4 – again in Faisalabad – when a 60 year old Muslim merchant has raped a Christian girl of 10. These episodes confirm the increase of attacks against children in Punjab, as evidenced by a survey carried out by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC), covering the first five months of 2012, which documents 122 cases of violations in the province: among these, at least 40 sexual, 14 murders, 22 kidnappings, 14 corporal punishment, six forced marriages and 13 deaths due to lack of basic medical care.

Shumaila Masih, a native of Chak 226, Samundari, in the district of Faisalabad (Punjab), is the oldest of four children of a poor Christian family. On the morning of September 20 the girl was headed to the house of a wealthy Muslim, where her mother worked as a maid, to warn of sudden visit by some guests. On the way she met three young Muslims – Iftikhar Hussain 27, Shahid Munir and Muhammad Imran both 30 – who tried at first to persuade her to go with them. At her refusal, the three took her by force and locked her up in the house of Iftikhar Hussain, taking turns raping her for hours. The attack took place at 11 am, in broad daylight, but no one intervened to save Shumaila, despite the desperate cries and pleas for help. At about 5 pm the father Manzoor Masih, along with two cousins, began searching for the girl when she failed to return home. Arriving close to the house where she was being held they heard her cries. At the sight of the men, the three young Muslims fled, leaving Shumaila naked and in pain on the bed.” Read more.

Egypt: Christian Families Forced To Flee Sinai Town After Threats From Islamic Militants

Associated Press – “CAIRO — Coptic Christian families have fled their homes in a town in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, fearing for their lives after receiving death threats from suspected Islamic militants, a local priest said Thursday.

Father Youssef Sobhi said that Islamic militants dropped leaflets on the doorsteps of shops owned by Copts in the city of Rafah near the border with Gaza and Israel, ordering them to leave town within 48 hours and making an implicit warning of violence if they failed to do so. Two days later, masked militants on a motorcycle opened fire on one of the shops before speeding off, Sobhi said. No one was hurt in the shooting.

When Christians met Tuesday with the province’s top government official, who was recently appointed by Egypt’s new Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi, the governor promised to facilitate the Copts’ move to the nearby city of el-Arish but did not offer to protect the community to ensure that it stayed in Rafah, according to the priest.

‘I was shocked at the governor’s response,’ Sobhi said. ‘This is simply displacement by the government’s consent.’

An Egyptian intelligence official confirmed that a number of Coptic families had fled Rafah because of a militant threat. Another security official denied the reports and said that no Christians were forced to leave. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief the media.

It was not exactly clear how many Christians have left the town, but Sobhi said that the number of Copts in Rafah had dwindled from 14 families to two since the uprising that pushed longtime autocrat Hosni Mubarak from power in February 2011.

A first wave left Rafah after the only church in the town, The Holy Family Church, was looted, torched and destroyed in several militant attacks over the past year. The church is built on the site where Christians believe the Holy Family first stopped to rest after crossing into Egypt.” Read more.

Newly Discovered Comet May Blaze Brighter Than The Full Moon In Late 2013, Could Become One Of The Greatest In History

BY PETER GREGO, ASTRONOMY NOW – “A new comet has been discovered that is predicted to blaze incredibly brilliantly in the skies during late 2013. With a perihelion passage of less than two million kilometres from the Sun on 28 November 2013, current predictions are of an object that will dazzle the eye at up to magnitude —16. That’s far brighter than the full Moon. If predictions hold true then C/2012 S1 will certainly be one of the greatest comets in human history, far outshining the memorable Comet Hale-Bopp of 1997 and very likely to outdo the long-awaited Comet Pan-STARRS (C/2011 L4) which is set to stun in March 2013.

The new comet, named C/2012 S1 (ISON) was found by the International Scientific Optical Network (ISON) in Russia on 21 September when astronomers Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok captured it on CCD images taken through a 0.4-metre reflector. Its near-parabolic orbit suggests that it has arrived fresh from the Oort Cloud, a vast zone of icy objects orbiting the Sun, pristine remnants of the formation of the Solar System.

C/2012 S1 currently resides in the northwestern corner of Cancer. At magnitude +18 it is too dim to be seen visually but it will be within the reach of experienced amateur astronomers with CCD equipment in the coming months as it brightens. It is expected to reach binocular visibility by late summer 2013 and a naked eye object in early November of that year. Northern hemisphere observers are highly favoured. Following its peak brightness in late November it will remain visible without optical aid until mid-January 2014.

Comet brightness predictions sometimes exceed their performance. Amateur astronomers of a certain age may remember the Comet Kohoutek hype of 1973 – not quite the ‘damp squib’ it has been portrayed, since it reached naked eye visibility! Even if C/2012 S1 takes on the same light curve as Kohoutek it is certain to be spectacular, quite possibly a once-in-a-civilisation’s-lifetime event.” Source – Astronomy Now.

The “Perfect Human Being”: Can An Islamic Antichrist Present Himself As God And Receive Worship, Yet Remain A Servant Of ‘Allah’?

With great anticipation, the Islamic world awaits a “savior.” They call him “The Mahdi.” They believe that he will unite the Muslim world together against all who refuse to submit to Islam, creating peace and lasting security by leading all nations into a new era of global Islamic “justice.” In 2012, at the annual United Nations General Assembly and in front of millions of people around the world, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that we would soon witness a new “global management” ruled by the “perfect human being” Imam Al-Mahdi along with his deputy, the prophet “Jesus Christ.”

The world of Biblical eschatology has undergone a major shift over the past few years. Many discerning Christians now recognize immediately this “Islamic messiah” as a prime candidate for the Biblical Antichrist. But despite all that has happened and continues to happen in the Muslim world as of late, there are still many others who continue to resist any notion that Islam is the religious ideology of the Beast in Daniel and Revelation and that the Biblical Antichrist could be a Muslim or be associated with Islam in any way. In their way of thinking, the argument always begins with the premiss that the Antichrist will be someone who will literally announce to the world that “I am God” and will then demand to be worshipped as God. Since no Muslim would ever dare claim to be God (under accusation of blasphemy and penalty of death) and since no Muslim would ever dare to worship a mere man who made such a claim (under accusation of blasphemy and penalty of death), Islam must, they believe, either be all but destroyed before a non-Islamic Antichrist comes to power or undergo a significant theological metamorphosis, making it virtually unrecognizable to the Islam that we have today. But there is something very significant that many are missing, and it involves the premisses upon which their conclusion is derived.

How ‘Religious Defamation’ Laws Would Ban Islam

Because Muslims don’t need to abide by any set of rules outside of Islamic jurisprudence. They just need to enforce them …

By Raymond Ibrahim – “As the Islamic world, in the guise of the 57-member state Organization of Islamic Cooperation, continues to push for the enforcement of ‘religious defamation’ laws in the international arena—theoretically developed to protect all religions from insult, but in reality made for Islam—one great irony is lost, especially on Muslims: if such laws would ban movies and cartoons that defame Islam, they would also, by logical extension, have to ban the religion of Islam itself—the only religion whose core texts actively defame other religions.

To understand this, consider what ‘defamation’ means.  Typical dictionary-definitions include ‘to blacken another’s reputation’ and ‘false or unjustified injury of the good reputation of another, as by slander or libel.’ In Muslim usage, defamation simply means anything that insults or offends Islamic sensibilities.

However, to gain traction among the international community, the OIC maintains that such laws should protect all religions from defamation, not just Islam.  Accordingly, the OIC is agreeing that any expression that ‘slanders’ the religious sentiments of others should be banned.

What, then, do we do with Islam’s core religious texts—beginning with the Quran itself, which slanders, denigrates and blackens the reputation of other religions?  Consider Christianity alone: Quran 5:73 declares that ‘Infidels are they who say Allah is one of three,’ a reference to the Christian Trinity; Quran 5:73 says ‘Infidels are they who say Allah is the Christ, [Jesus] son of Mary’; and Quran 9:30 complains that ‘the Christians say the Christ is the son of Allah … may Allah’s curse be upon them!’

Considering that the word infidel (or kafir) is one of Islam’s most derogatory terms, what if a Christian book or Western movie appeared declaring that ‘Infidels are they who say Muhammad is the prophet of God—may God’s curse be upon  them‘?  If Muslims would consider that a great defamation against Islam—and they would, with the attendant rioting, murders, etc.—then by the same standard it must be admitted that the Quran defames Christians and Christianity.

KSTE (650 AM) aired a previously recorded ‘Best Of’ morning show on Tuesday instead of its regularly scheduled live program featuring Jack Armstrong and Joe Getty. Officials for the Sacramento station and its owner, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, offered no explanation for the change, sparking questions and heated comments among fans on the show’s Facebook page.

During an on-air discussion Monday, Armstrong criticized the United States for what he characterized as apologizing for a crude YouTube video that mocked the Prophet Muhammad and sparked anti-U.S. uprisings around the globe. He urged listeners to make their own ‘anti-Muhammad ads’ and post them to Al-Jazeera, the Arabic news network. ‘We need to bombard them with ads until they grow up,’ he said.

Armstrong did not return a phone message from The Bee on Tuesday, and Clear Channel spokesman Dave Milner said, ‘We do not have any information at this time’ about the hosts and their future at KSTE.

The program, which airs weekday mornings, features the hosts taking calls from the public and offering social commentary and humorous anecdotes about everything from celebrity sex to politics.

The show’s fans spoke out on Armstrong & Getty’s Facebook page Tuesday, questioning why they were absent from the live broadcast and accusing the channel of censorship.” Read more.

Hawaii: Mystery Surrounding Mass Coral Die-Off Prompts Scientists To Investigate Cause, ‘I’ve Never Seen Anything Like This Before’

RSOE EDIS – “A mysterious coral die-off on Kauai’s north shore is prompting a team of scientists to take a closer look at what may be killing large areas of coral reef. Marine biologist Terry Lilley has been monitoring and documenting Kauai’s marine environment for the last decade or more. This summer he was struck at how fast he was seeing something kill off what he estimates are millions of coral colonies. Lilley contacted scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey who’ve determined the diseased coral is different from what killed coral heads in Kaneohe Bay last year. The Kauai outbreak is believed to be due to a type of cyano bacteria and fungus which has compromised the health of the reef, according to researcher Thierry Work. Work said he took samples from the reef earlier this month and will be back to collect more coral and fish to conduct toxicology tests. Lilley has sounded the alarm which he hopes will trigger action to get the disease in check, and prevent its spread. ‘We have a billion dollar industry tourist industry in Hawaii with snorkels who want to see the reefs. If we let them die on the north shore of Kauai, that’s going to be a huge impact financially on the resources, and the money coming in,’ said Lilley. US: Parasitic Infection Causing Insects To Lurch Around Until They Die Spreading Across America

By MARK PRIGG – “The infection is as grim as it sounds: ‘Zombie bees’ have a parasite that causes them to fly at night and lurch around erratically until they die.

And experts say the condition has crept into Washington state.

‘I joke with my kids that the zombie apocalypse is starting at my house,’ said Mark Hohn, a novice beekeeper who spotted the infected insects at his suburban Seattle home.

Hohn returned from vacation a few weeks ago to find many of his bees either dead or flying in jerky patterns and then flopping on the floor.

He remembered hearing about zombie bees, so he collected several of the corpses and popped them into a plastic bag. About a week later, the Kent man had evidence his bees were infected: the pupae of parasitic flies.

‘Curiosity got the better of me,’ Hohn said.

The zombie bees were the first to be confirmed in Washington state, The Seattle Times reported.

San Francisco State University biologist John Hafernik first discovered zombie bees in California in 2008.

Hafernik now uses a website to recruit citizen scientists like Hohn to track the infection across the country.

Observers also have found zombie bees in Oregon and South Dakota.

The infection is another threat to bees that are needed to pollinate crops.

Hives have been failing in recent years due to a mysterious ailment called colony collapse disorder, in which all the adult honey bees in a colony suddenly die.” Read more.

Canada: New Type Of Swine Flu Virus Discovered In Ontario, Unrelated To US Outbreaks

The Canadian Press – “Ontario has found a case of an infection with a new swine flu virus, in a man who had close contact with pigs.

The infection was caused by an H1N1-variant virus, which is not the swine flu virus that has been jumping from pigs to people in the United States this summer.

That virus was an H3N2-variant, and has caused 305 infections this year in the U.S. but has not been spotted in Canada to date. Most infections with the H3N2-variant flu have been in people who visited pig barns at state and county fairs.

The Ontario case was announced by the province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Arlene King on Tuesday morning.

Ms. King said the man is being treated in hospital in southwestern Ontario. She did not indicate whether that is as a precaution or because he is seriously ill.

Health Minister Deb Matthews said the fact that the case was detected in Ontario demonstrates that the province has a strong surveillance system for infectious diseases.

‘It’s one case, the first we’ve seen in Ontario, but not really unexpected because there have been cases in the States,’ Ms. Matthews told reporters on Tuesday.

Ms. Matthews said health care providers in Ontario learned a lot about infectious diseases from the earlier outbreaks of SARS and H1N1.

‘Our hospitals know exactly what to do when they get a case,’ she said.

Ms. King said this new virus is one that rarely spreads from animals to people, and human-to-human spread is also rare.

She stressed the discovery of the infection does not trigger food safety concerns. ‘Proper cooking of meats, including pork, kills all bacteria and viruses.’
