Drums of War: Iran Warns ‘Zionist Regime’ of ‘Harsh Punishment’ as Israel’s Prime Minister Moves to Persuade Cabinet to Support Military Action Against Iran
By Barak Ravid, Amos Harel, Zvi Zrahiya and Jonathan Lis – “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are trying to muster a majority in the cabinet in favor of military action against Iran, a senior Israeli official has said. According to the official, there is a ‘small advantage’ in the cabinet for the opponents of such an attack.
Netanyahu and Barak recently persuaded Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who previously objected to attacking Iran, to support such a move.
Although more than a million Israelis have had to seek shelter during a week of rockets raining down on the south, political leaders have diverted their attention to arguing over a possible war with Iran. Leading ministers were publicly dropping hints on Tuesday that Israeli could attack Iran, although a member of the forum of eight senior ministers said no such decision had been taken.
Senior ministers and diplomats said the International Atomic Energy Agency’s report, due to be released on November 8, will have a decisive effect on the decisions Israel makes.” Read more.
Israel Test Fires Missile That Can Hit Iran – “Israel successfully test-fired on Wednesday a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and striking Iran, fanning a public debate over whether the country’s leaders are agitating for a military attack on Tehran’s atomic facilities… An Israeli defense official told The Associated Press that the military tested a “rocket propulsion system” in an exercise planned long ago. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of security restrictions, and declined to give further information. Further information about the test was censored by the military. Foreign reports, however, said the military test-fired a long-range Jericho missile — capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and striking Iran.” Read more.
Iran warns Israeli strike will meet ‘harsh punishment’ – “Iran’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Hassan Fairouz Abadi commented Wednesday on reported Israeli threats to strike Iran and warned that Tehran would retaliate with a ‘surprising punishment’ if Israel pursued such a ‘mistake.’ ‘Even though the likelihood for such an attack is low, we see the threat as a serious threat and are on full alert,’ Abadi told Iran’s Fars news agency. Speaking on the sidelines of an Iranian defense conference, he added that ‘America knows that a Zionist military strike in Iran would cause it major damages in addition to the damages caused to this regime.’ He further warned the US against striking in Syria, as NATO forces have done in Libya, saying: ‘The military regime in Damascus is at the forefront of our dealings with the occupying Zionist regime… The Libyan model will not intimidate Syria. If they strike there will be a Muslim uprising that would leave nothing of the Americans or the Zionist regime.'” Read more.
Egypt’s Massacre of Christians – What the Media Does Not Want You To Know
By Raymond Ibrahim – “Western media coverage of the recent massacre of Coptic Christians in Cairo, Egypt—in which the military killed dozens of Christians and injured some 300—was, as discussed earlier, deplorable. It merely repeated the false propaganda of the complicit state-run media, without checking facts. Since then, further proofs of the lies and brutality surrounding the massacre have emerged; they are compiled in the following report which consists of facts and videos from Arabic sources—many of which have not appeared in the Western media.
This report documents: 1) the activities of the Supreme Military Council of Egypt and de facto ruler; 2) the lies and duplicitous tactics of both the Military Council and its media mouthpiece, Egyptian TV; and 3) the anti-Christian sentiment pervading all aspects of this incident.
The Egyptian Military
Along with a new report by Magdi Khalil asserting that the day before the planned march, a ‘death squad’ of snipers hid atop buildings and shot at protesters, armored vehicles intentionally chased after and ran over protesters, killing and mutilating many:
- Here is perhaps the clearest video; it shows a high-speed armored vehicle willfully plowing over unsuspecting Christian demonstrators.
- This video shows another armored vehicle chasing protesters, and a soldier opening fire into the fleeing crowds.
- This video shows high-speed armored cars running amok in the middle of the crowds, including chasing protesters on the curb, as well as soldiers beating protesters.
- As for eyewitness testimonies attesting to the brutality of the massacre, they are many, and include Muslims.
The Tactics of the Military Council ( or ‘War is Deceit’)
After the incident and notwithstanding crushing evidence, Egypt’s Military Council held a news conference wherein senior official, Mahmoud Hegazy, spun lie after lie: he stated that the military would “never, never” run over civilians; that the very idea was ‘impossible, impossible!’ and ‘Shame on those who accuse the Egyptian military of such things!… Never has our military run over a single person, not even when combating the Enemy [Israel].’
Hegazy portrayed the Christian protesters as the aggressors, attacking and killing ‘honorable’ soldiers. To prove his point, he showed an image of a protester on top of a stalled armored vehicle, throwing a rock at the soldier inside, and a video of a military vehicle—that he claimed was hijacked by a protester—driving wildly into the crowd.
Hegazy’s deceit lies in the fact that the ‘hijacked’ vehicle running amok, and the one stalled and attacked by a protester, were one and the same vehicle: Al Dalil revealed that both vehicles had the same identification number. In other words, when the vehicle in which a soldier was chasing and running over protesters finally stalled, the protesters then attacked it.” Read more.
It’s Official: Greek Cabinet Supports Call for Referendum on Bailout, ‘No’ Vote Could Create Global Financial Shockwave
By Elinda Labropoulou – “Athens, Greece (CNN) — Greece’s cabinet voted Wednesday to support Prime Minister George Papandreou’s call to hold a referendum as soon as possible about the latest bailout plan, ministers coming out of the meeting told a CNN affiliate.
The vote was unanimous, though some of the ministers expressed criticism prior to casting their votes, CNN affiliate Mega Channel reported.
The cabinet vote came hours before German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and senior figures from the International Monetary Fund and European Union were to meet Wednesday with Greek officials at an emergency meeting in Cannes, France, ahead of the G-20 summit.
Their meeting comes a day after U.S. and European stock markets tumbled after Papandreou’s call for the referendum on international aid for his country.
A ‘no’ vote could theoretically force Greece to crash out of the euro and send shock waves through the global financial system.” Read more.
Canadian Finance Minister: “This kind of turmoil in Europe is not good for anyone around the world” – “Greek government’s plan to hold a referendum on its European bailout package is injecting a dangerous level of uncertainty and placing the global economic recovery in peril, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty warned Tuesday. Pointing at the plunging markets in Canada and around the world, Flaherty said he was concerned about the delay that a referendum would cause. ‘It’s not for us to dictate terms to the Europeans – it is for us to say that delay endangers the global economy,’ he told reporters late Tuesday after meeting with the Commons finance committee. ‘We have interdependent economies in this world. What affects Europe, affects the United States, affects Canada … this kind of turmoil in Europe is not good for anyone around the world.'” Read more.
Fukushima: Scientist Marco Kaltofen Presents Data Confirming Hot Particles
“Washington, DC – October 31, 2011 – Today Scientist Marco Kaltofen of Worchester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) presented his analysis of radioactive isotopic releases from the Fukushima accidents at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA). Mr. Kaltofen’s analysis confirms the detection of hot particles in the US and the extensive airborne and ground contamination in northern Japan due to the four nuclear power plant accidents at TEPCO’s Fukushima reactors. Fairewinds believes that this is a personal health issue in Japan and a public health issue in the United States and Canada.” Source.
Unusually High Number of Dead Dolphins Washing Ashore in Mississippi and Alabama, ‘This Is Not Normal’
By KAREN NELSON – “GULFPORT — So far in October, 14 dead dolphins have washed ashore in Mississippi and Alabama.
Three were found Friday in Mississippi — one on Deer Island, one floating 200 yards off the beach at Cowan Road and one on the beach in Long Beach.
‘Generally, you don’t see this in October,’ said Moby Solangi, director of the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies. ‘This is not normal.’
There was a time when one dolphin death was an unusual event.
But dolphins dying consistently, month after month, is something that has continued in the northern Gulf since the BP oil spill.
NOAA, the federal National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, is investigating the deaths.
The agency said in a statement Thursday five of 21 dolphins that died in Louisiana in 2010 were killed by the bacterium brucella. That’s 21 of the 580 that have been discovered dead in the northern Gulf since February 2010, three months before the spill.
NOAA has said something was killing dolphins before the spill, but added exposure to the oil could have worn down the animals and made them more susceptible to disease.
NOAA hasn’t drawn any conclusion about the deaths, but the investigation is continuing.
Doug Inkley, senior scientist with the National Wildlife Federation, said Friday the fact that an unusual number of dolphins began dying before the spill “in no way means the oil spill did not contribute to dolphin deaths.
‘What we do know is that every single month since the oil spill began through present, dolphin deaths have been far above normal and this is a real cause for concern.'” Read more.
Florida: Die-Off Reported In Pensacola’s Oyster Beds, ‘Something Happened in August, And It Had To Be Massive’
“PENSACOLA, Fla. — State scientists will head to the Florida Panhandle this week to check on East Bay oyster beds where oystermen are reporting a die-off.
Oyster season opened Oct. 1. Oystermen have reported pulling up dead oysters from beds that had been filled with large, healthy oysters at the end of the last harvest season on June 30.
‘We’re finding very few alive,’ Pasco Gibson, a main supplier of the East Bay oysters, told the Pensacola News Journal (http://on.pnj.com/t1Ziy7). ‘This time of the year, we should be catching 500 to 1,000 pounds per boat a day. We’re not even catching a hundred pounds.’
Gibson’s six oyster boats are mostly idle, and some of his freelance oystermen are heading to Apalachicola to look for work. He said the meager harvests have cost him 40 percent of his income.
Depending on what’s killing the oysters, once they start growing back, it could take up to three years to grow them large enough to harvest, he said.
‘Something happened in August, and it had to be massive because some of these beds are 10 miles apart,’ Gibson said of the beds scattered near the shorelines of East Bay.
Scientists from the Department of Agriculture’s Division of Aquaculture will check the oyster beds this week.” Read more.
Syria: Previously Unknown Nuclear Complex, Khan-Connection Exposed
I understand Captain, it makes me wanna vent some frustration, too. These hidden, clandestine weapons programs are intended primarily for one enemy. Its capital starts with a “J”, ends with an “M”, and the “USA” stands somewhere in between …
“UN investigators have identified a previously unknown complex in Syria that bolsters suspicions that the Syrian government worked with A.Q. Khan, the father of Pakistan’s atomic bomb, to acquire technology that could be used to make nuclear arms.
The buildings in northwest Syria closely match the design of a uranium enrichment plant provided to Libya when Moammar Gaddafi was trying to build nuclear weapons under Khan’s guidance, officials told The Associated Press.
The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency also has obtained correspondence between Khan and a Syrian government official, Muhidin Issa, who proposed scientific cooperation and a visit to Khan’s laboratories following Pakistan’s successful nuclear test in 1998.
The complex, in the city of Al-Hasakah, now appears to be a cotton-spinning plant, and investigators have found no sign that it was ever used for nuclear production. But given that Israeli warplanes destroyed a suspected plutonium production reactor in Syria in 2007, the unlikely coincidence in design suggests that Syria may have been pursuing two routes to an atomic bomb: uranium as well as plutonium.
Details of the Syria-Khan connection were provided to the AP by a senior diplomat with knowledge of IAEA investigations and a former UN investigator. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
The Syrian government did not respond to a request for comment. It has repeatedly denied pursuing nuclear weapons but also has stymied an investigation into the site bombed by Israel. It has not responded to an IAEA request to visit the Al-Hasakah complex, the officials said.” Read more.
Syria’s Assad warns of ‘earthquake’ if west intervenes – “Western powers risk causing an “earthquake” across the Middle East if they intervene in Syria, President Bashar al-Assad said, after protesters called for foreign protection from a crackdown in which 3,000 people have been killed. Assad’s warning came ahead of Syrian government talks with the Arab League on Sunday aimed at starting a dialogue between the government and opposition and ending violence that has escalated across Syria in recent days… ‘Syria is the hub now in this region. It is the fault line, and if you play with the ground you will cause an earthquake.'” Read more.
Global Markets Tumble as Greece Announces Referendum on Euro Bail-Out, New Recession ‘Will Lead to Civil Unrest Worldwide’
By Nicholas Cecil – “The world is on the brink of a new jobs recession which could spark social unrest in dozens of countries, a report warned today.
The grim warning from the International Labour Organisation came as leaders of the G20 rich nations prepared to meet for a crisis summit in Cannes this week.
‘We have reached the moment of truth. We have a brief window of opportunity to avoid a major double-dip in employment,’ said Raymond Torres, director of the ILO’s International Institute for Labour Studies.
In 45 out of 118 countries examined, the risk of social unrest is rising, according to the World of Work Report 2011.
It will take at least five years for employment in advanced economies to return to pre-crisis levels, it added.
Fears of another recession grew today as a leading think tank slashed its eurozone growth forecast. The OECD predicted that the single currency area will almost come to a halt next year, with growth of 0.3 per cent. A slowdown would hit Britain’s economic prospects.” Read more.
Greek govt ‘on verge of imploding’ – “Greece’s government looked on the verge of implosion on Tuesday ahead of a Friday confidence vote as a socialist deputy defected and another cadre called for early elections after the prime minister called a referendum on his EU debt rescue. But the gambit backfired when a former deputy minister defected, reducing the ruling party’s majority in the 300-seat parliament to 152 deputies.” Read more.
Global markets fall as Greece announces referendum on euro bail-out – “Global stock markets dropped sharply as investors sold off shares after Greece’s shock decision to hold a referendum on its eurozone bail-out package thratened to intensify the region’s debt crisis. London’s FTSE 100 index of leading shares dropped more that 2pc, with markets in Germany falling, France, Spain and Italy sliding between 2.7pc and 4pc. Andrew Lim, banking analyst at Espirito Santo in London, said: ‘If Greek voters reject the unpopular bailout plan it could result in a ‘hard default’, which could force banks to take losses of about 75pc on their Greek sovereign bonds, trigger payouts on credit default swap insurance contracts, and raise the threat of a systemic risk. ‘If we get a hard default in Greece, it will exacerbate the situation with Italy and Spain. It just increases the problem of Italy going down the same route, and that’s the real risk.'” Read more.
French Report: Fukushima Pollution 20 Times Larger Than TEPCO Admits – 27,100 TBq of Radioactive Cesium Leaked Into Ocean
“French researchers say the amount of radioactive cesium that has leaked from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the ocean is 20 times larger than the plant operator estimated.
The French government’s nuclear research institute, IRSN, released its contamination report on Saturday.
It calculates that 27.1 thousand terabecquerels of radioactive cesium 137 had leaked into the ocean as of the middle of July. The largest amount was released by early April from a pit at the Number 2 reactor and other plant facilities.
The French institute says the amount is about 20 times the estimate made by Tokyo Electric Power Company.
The report says the nuclear accident caused significant water contamination, but radioactive substances will be dispersed by ocean currents.
Nevertheless, the institute is calling for ongoing testing of marine products as leakage from the nuclear facility continues to pollute the nearby ocean.” Source – NHK World.
Radiation Cleanup Confounds Japan – “Nearly eight months after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident scattered radioactive material over surrounding communities, Japan still is struggling to figure out how to clean up the mess, exacerbating fears about health risks and fanning mistrust of the government. Government guidelines provide scant detail about the $14-billion-plus effort. A new cleanup law doesn’t take effect until January. Cities across Fukushima prefecture are scraping contaminated topsoil off school grounds and parks, but Tokyo hasn’t yet decided where to store the tainted material.” Read more.
Fukushima plant cleanup to take 30+ years, commission tells TEPCO to BEGIN removing rods within TEN years – “Experts in Japan have warned it could take more than 30 years to clean up the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. A panel set up by the country’s nuclear energy commission said the severity of the accident meant it would take decades to remove melted fuel rods and decommission the plant, located 150 miles north of Tokyo. The commission called on the facility’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco), to begin removing the fuel rods within 10 years.” Read more.
More Signs Indicate Israel Preparing to Launch Attack Against Iran, Some US Analysts Believe Attack May Be ‘Imminent’
“A U.S. intelligence source has told G2Bulletin there are more indicators Israel is preparing to launch an attack – possibly against Iran. And if it does, it may be looking at how to undertake a multi-front strategy that would include an assault against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in the Gaza Strip or even Syria, according to a report from Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.
Separate sources suggest that Syria would welcome such an attack to divert attention from its own internal violent demonstrations against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The latest indications and warnings, or I&W, come two weeks following G2Bulletin’s initial report that the Pentagon was watching for a long-anticipated Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear sites.
That came after revelations of an alleged Iranian plot to kill the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States. At that time, a U.S. intelligence source who monitors Israeli I&W said the U.S. was watching ‘an indicator and warning matrix’ in which the U.S. can ‘go so far as to plot the illumination tables to pick out what nights would be best’ for such an attack.
He said that U.S. analysts were concerned that an attack could be ‘imminent.'” Read more.
Netanyahu: A nuclear Iran poses a serious, direct threat to Israel – “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Monday that a nuclear Iran would be a serious and direct threat to Israel. “A nuclear Iran poses a heavy threat to the entire world – and to Israel in particular,” Netanyahu said during the opening of the Knesset’s winter session, warning that the regime Tehran is continuing its efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. Netanyahu also spoke about the recent escalation with Palestinian militants along the Gaza border, saying Israel will position more Iron Dome anti-missile defense system batteries throughout Israeli cities in hope to intercept more missiles from Gaza. “We will continue to act against those who try to harm us,” he said.” Source – Haaretz.
Report: Israel seeking to upgrade its nuclear weapons capabilities – “Israel is working on improving its nuclear weapons capabilities, according to a report by the independent Trident commission in the United Kingdom that was published in the Guardian newspaper on Monday. According to the report in the Guardian, Israel is extending the range of its Jericho 3 land-to-land missiles so they will have the capabilities of transcontinental missiles. Transcontinental missiles are generally thought of as missiles with ranges of about 5,000 miles. The Guardian also reported that Israel is also striving to improve and expand the capabilities of its cruise missiles, designed to be launched from submarines.” Read more.
‘Allahu Akbar!’: UNESCO Votes to Grant Full Membership to Palestinians, Bolton: US Statutes Now Require Full Cutoff of US Funding for Agency
Is this the beginning of the end? The UN cultural body UNESCO votes to grant full membership to the ‘culture of death‘. This is one additional step towards full UN state membership of ‘Palestine’ and the planned division of the land of Israel by the Muslim world for the glory of Islam …
Daniel 11:39, “Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge [and] increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.”
Zechariah 12:13, “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.”
“The acceptance of the Palestinian mission into the U.N.’s cultural and educational agency could result in backlash from Washington, which is required by law to cut off funding to the agency if a Palestinian Liberation Organization is granted membership in any group at the international body.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization voted 107-14 with 52 abstentions on Monday granting Palestinians full membership in the organization. The U.S. voted against the nomination. Eighty-one votes of the 173 UNESCO members were needed for full membership to be approved.
‘Long Live Palestine!’ one delegate reportedly shouted in French at the meeting.
The U.S. funds about 22 percent of UNESCO’s budget, or roughly $80 million annually.
The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment, though U.S. ambassador to UNESCO David Killion reportedly said the vote will ‘complicate’ U.S. efforts to support the group.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton said the vote signals weakness in U.S. diplomacy.
‘So ineffective was Obama administration diplomacy, that France voted in favor of Palestinian membership, and Britain and Japan abstained. U.S. statutes, dating from 1990, now require a full cutoff of U.S. funding, which Congress should insist occur immediately. Should the administration seek changes in the applicable statutory provisions that would eliminate or weaken the funding cutoff, Congress should reject them,’ Bolton said.
‘UNESCO has made its decision: it prefers Palestinian membership to American participation. Now let the rest of the U.N. specialized agencies make their choice,’ he added.
An aide to House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said the congresswoman supports full enforcement of the law, without exception.” Read more.

Iran: Supreme Leader Says U.S. Troop Exit ‘Golden’ Victory for Iraq
“TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran’s supreme leader on Sunday hailed the coming withdrawal of troops from neighboring Iraq as a ‘golden’ victory.
President Barack Obama plans to withdraw his 40,000 troops from Iraq by the end of the year after negotiations on keeping some forces there failed, a move some politicians say could give Tehran more room to assert its influence.
‘The uniform stance of all tribes and religions in Iraq over America’s pressure to get legal immunity for its occupying servicemen, and ultimately the coercion of America to exit Iraq, constitute a golden page in that country’s history,’ Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said after a meeting with Iraqi Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani, the ISNA news agency reported.
The troops are leaving more than eight years after a U.S.-led invasion toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Tehran welcomed the fall of Saddam, a secular Sunni Muslim who took majority Shi’ite Iraq into a bloody 1980-88 war with Iran, but has always criticized U.S. military intervention.
While it has been rebuilding ties with post-Saddam Iraq, Iran’s relations with the United States have worsened. Washington has warned Tehran not to underestimate its large military presence in other nearby countries.” Read more.
U.S. Planning Troop Buildup in Gulf After Exit From Iraq – “The Obama administration plans to bolster the American military presence in the Persian Gulf after it withdraws the remaining troops from Iraq this year, according to officials and diplomats. That repositioning could include new combat forces in Kuwait able to respond to a collapse of security in Iraq or a military confrontation with Iran. The plans, under discussion for months, gained new urgency after President Obama’s announcement this month that the last American soldiers would be brought home from Iraq by the end of December. Ending the eight-year war was a central pledge of his presidential campaign, but American military officers and diplomats, as well as officials of several countries in the region, worry that the withdrawal could leave instability or worse in its wake.” Read more.
