As Robert Spencer points out in the interview below, the Islamic State has global aspirations and views everything happening today “as the titanic struggle between good and evil. They see this coming down to an ‘Armageddon’ battle in Dabiq, in northern Syria.” According to Islamic “prophecy” Dabiq is believed to be the site of the “great battle” between Muslims and Christians. “They see that actually taking place within the next 10 years and they’re working toward it … they’re going to kill millions of people if they can in trying to get to that point.” Of course, there is another great battle that Muslims believe they must soon fight as well, one that involves the massacre of Jews and the “liberation” of Jerusalem. If the “Islamic State” itself is too preoccupied to join the fight against Jerusalem or their ability to fight is diminished between now and then, there are plenty of others who are already planning to enter the fray …

By Kellan Howell, The Washington Times – “A group of former top military officials and intelligence analysts released a new report Wednesday concluding that the nuclear deal with Iran will threaten American interests and increase the probability of military conflict in the Middle East.

In its report, the Iran Strategy Council wrote that the nuclear deal, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), ‘will enable Iran to increase support for terrorist and insurgent proxies, aggravate sectarian conflict and trigger both nuclear and conventional proliferation cascades.’

Additionally, the deal will ‘provide the expansionist regime in Tehran with access to resources, technology and international arms markets required to bolster offensive military capabilities in the vital Persian Gulf region, acquire long-range ballistic missiles and develop other major weapons systems,’ the council wrote.

In its report, the council argued that the deal is not an alternative to war with Iran, as many of its supports have claimed, but would actually make war more likely.

‘Contrary to the false choice between support for the JCPOA and military confrontation, the agreement increases both the probability and danger of hostilities with Iran,’ the report noted. ‘Given the deleterious strategic consequences to the United States, implementation of the JCPOA will demand increased political and military engagement in the Middle East that carries significantly greater risks and costs relative to current planning assumptions.’

The Iran Strategy Council was commissioned by the Jewish Institute of National Security to educate Americans on the consequences of the Iran nuclear deal.

Members of the council include retired Gen. James Conway, former Commandant of the Marine Corps; retired Air Force Gen. Chuck Wald, former Deputy Commander of the United States European Command; retired Adm. Mark Fitzgerald, former Commander of the U.S. Naval Forces in Europe/Africa; and retired Vice Adm. Early historical sources — both Muslim and non-Muslim — make clear that the Islamic empire was forged by the sword; that people embraced Islam, not so much out of sincere faith, but for a myriad of reasons — from converting in order to enjoy the boons of being on the ‘winning team’ to converting in order to evade the dooms of being on the ‘losing team.’

Modern day Muslims and other apologists — primarily in academia, government, and mainstream media — reject this idea.  They argue that the non-Muslims who embraced Islam did so from sheer conviction; that the ancestors of today’s 1.5 billion Muslims all converted to Islam due to its intrinsic appeal; that the modern day coercion and persecution committed by the Islamic State and other organizations is an aberration.

Of course, as mentioned, the primary texts of history are full of anecdotes demonstrating the opposite.  However, because ours is an increasingly ahistorical society, in this essay I endeavor to show that sheer common sense alone validates what history records, namely, that the Islamic world and its populace was forged through violent coercion.

To do so, I will use Egypt — one of the most important Muslim majority nations and my ancestral homeland — as a paradigm.  I will show how a historic fact that Islam’s apologists habitually boast of — that there are still millions of Christians in Egypt (approximately 10% of the population) — is not proof of Islam’s tolerance but rather its intolerance.

In the 7th century, when Islam was being formulated, Egypt had been Christian for centuries,[1] before most of Europe had converted.  Alexandria was one of the most important ecclesiastical centers of ancient Christian learning and, along with Rome and Antioch, one of the original three sees.[2]  Much literary and ongoing archeological evidence attest to the fact that Christianity permeated the whole of Egypt.

Writing around the year 400—roughly two-and-a-half centuries before the Arab invasion—John Cassian, a Christian monk from the region of modern day Romania, observed that

the traveler from Alexandria in the north to Luxor in the south would have in his ears along the whole journey, the sounds of prayers and hymns of the monks, scattered in the desert, from the monasteries and from the caves, from monks, hermits, and anchorites.[3]

And in recent times, both the oldest parchment to contain words from the Gospel (dating to the 1st century) and the oldest image of Christ were discovered in separate regions of Egypt.

The question now becomes: what made such an ancient and heavily Christian nation become Islamic?  More specifically, what made the ancestors of today’s Egyptian Muslims — most of who were Coptic Christians — convert to Islam?

Note how defensive Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam is: ‘When we have somebody that’s making these threats, we know he’s Iranian, we know he’s a Muslim, and regardless what anybody says, dammit, they’ve killed people. So we have to take it seriously and we are.’ Clearly, Adam is already anticipating charges of ‘Islamophobia’ resulting from his daring to arrest a Muslim making terrorist threats: ‘regardless of what anybody says,’ he says, they have to ‘take it seriously’ — in other words, they can’t back down for fear of charges of ‘racism’ and ‘bigotry’ that he obviously knows will be coming, because they always do.

Meanwhile, Safa Alidoust does appear to be legitimately mentally ill. All too often authorities ascribe jihad activity as mental illness in order to cover up that it’s really jihad activity, but this business about praying in the nude does make it seem as if Alidoust has really gone round the bend. No sect of Islam requires nudity for prayer. Unfortunately, his mental illness does seem to have an aggressive, belligerent aspect that does have a heavy Islamic character.

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) – An Iranian national arrested in Hancock County Sunday for allegedly making terrorist threats and assaulting two sheriff’s deputies will have a bond hearing Tuesday.

Authorities say they were forced to shut down a portion of I-10 near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line for more than two hours after Safa Alidoust, 32, threatened to set off explosive devices he claimed were in his car. Sheriff’s officials say it’s a bizarre case.

“Got a call of a naked man on I-10, dispatchers dispatch a deputy out there. When he got there, the guy was naked. So he approaches him, he was talking to him, as they were talking he and the suspect get into a wrestling match,” said Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam.

The car Sheriff Adam said the suspect was driving was impounded behind the Sheriff’s Department and it had what is believed to be the suspect’s clothes on the floor board and passenger seat. The sheriff said while the interstate scuffle was going on, a second officer was sent to the scene.

Adam said the deputies, “Finally subdue him after about 10 or 15 minutes of fighting with him. Which in turn injured one of our officers.”

Adam said the scene became more intense after the suspect began making threats praying to Allah and saying he’s got a bomb and he’s going to blow everybody up. That’s when the sheriff says the Biloxi Bomb Squad was called.

“They x-rayed a couple of packages that were in the vehicle,” explained Sheriff Adam.

Fortunately no bomb was found in the car . But a background check on the suspect determined Alidoust is an Iranian national living in Lafayette, Louisiana on a work visa.

“And works for an oil company over there, a petroleum company., [sic] The Iranian was then sent to the hospital, and at the hospital he’s still threatening to kill anyone who isn’t a member of Islam or Muslim. When we have somebody that’s making these threats, we know he’s Iranian, we know he’s a Muslim, and regardless what anybody says, dammit, they’ve killed people. So we have to take it seriously and we are,” explained Adam.

The Sheriff said the suspect told his deputies he was nude because he is required to pray that way.

Adam said, “If that’s what they believe I can care less. They can do it. just [sic] don’t do it on the interstate.”…

This is because of this hadith: ‘Narrated ‘Ikrima: Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to ‘Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn ‘Abbas who said, ‘If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah’s Apostle forbade it, saying, ‘Do not punish anybody with Allah’s punishment (fire).’ I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah’s Apostle, ‘Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.” (Bukhari 9.84.57)

But as is so often the case with hadith, there is also a contradictory one — supporting the view that these sayings were fabricated by competing factions among Muslims, and have no historical value. Muhammad is depicted as saying that those who don’t answer the call to prayer should be set on fire, along with their houses: ‘Certainly I decided to order the Mu’adh-dhin (call-maker) to pronounce Iqama and order a man to lead the prayer and then take a fire flame to burn all those who had not left their houses so far for the prayer along with their houses.’ (Bukhari 1.11.626)

Then there is this gruesome story from Muhammad’s conquest of Khaybar: ‘Kinana b. al-Rabi`, who had the custody of the treasure of B. al-Nadir, was brought to the apostle who asked him about it. He denied that he knew where it was. A Jew came (T. was brought) to the apostle and said that he had seen Kinana going round a certain ruin every morning early. When the apostle said to Kinana, ‘Do you know that if we find you have it I shall kill you?’ he said Yes. The apostle gave orders that the ruin was to be excavated and some of the treasure was found. When he asked him about the rest he refused to produce it, so the apostle gave orders to al-Zubayr b. al-Awwam, ‘Torture him until you extract what he has,’ so he kindled a fire with flint and steel on his chest until he was nearly dead. Then the apostle delivered him to Muhammad b. Maslama and he struck off his head, in revenge for his brother Mahmud.’ (Ibn Ishaq 515).

Islamic apologists never, ever explain the data that contradicts their positions. They just ignore it. That is what distinguishes them as deceivers rather than reformers.

‘IS burns four Iraqi Shiite fighters alive,’ AFP, August 31, 2015:

The Islamic State group strung up four Iraqi Shiite fighters with chains and burned them alive, according to footage posted online, the latest gruesome execution video from the jihadists.

The victims — identified as fighters in the pro-government Popular Mobilisation forces from southern Iraq — were suspended from a swingset by chains attached to their hands and feet, then set on fire.

IS, which overran large parts of Iraq last year and still controls much of the country’s west, said the murders were in revenge for the alleged burning of four men by pro-government forces.

“Now retribution has come, for today, we will attack them as they attacked us, and punish them as they punished us,” a masked militant says in the video, which was not dated and did not say where the burnings took place.

The video included a clip said to show a Sunni man suspended over a fire while still alive as pro-government forces look on, and another of famous Shiite fighter Abu Azrael (“Father of the Angel of Death”) slicing a piece of flesh off a burned corpse with a sword….

AFP – “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) battled Syrian rebel forces in a Damascus neighbourhood on Monday, bringing the extremists closer than ever to the centre of the capital, a monitoring group said.

Isil militants fought street battles against Islamist rebels in Asali, part of the capital’s southern Qadam district, after seizing two streets there over the weekend, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

‘This is the closest Isil has ever been to the heart of Damascus,’ Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said.

He said Isil had advanced from the adjacent Al-Hajar Al-Aswad neighbourhood, where they have been based since July 2014.

A Syrian military official confirmed the clashes and said he was ‘very happy that they are fighting’.

‘But we are ready to react if they try to advance into government-held territory,’ the official told AFP.

According to the Observatory, opposition-held Qadam has been relatively quiet since a truce between rebel groups and regime forces there a year ago.

It said fighting in the district on Sunday left 15 fighters dead, but it could not specify how many were from Isil and how many were Islamist rebels.

Mr Rahman said the ‘fierce street battles’ had forced civilians to flee the area.

Since its expulsion from the Eastern Ghouta suburb of Damascus last year, Isil has used Al-Hajar Al-Aswad as a base for attacks on the capital.

From there, it tried to seize the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in April, but was pushed back.

That same month, Isil kidnapped two opposition fighters from Qadam and beheaded them in Al-Hajar Al-Aswad.

By Henry Samuel and David Chazan, The Telegraph – “French security forces are bracing for the eventuality of civil unrest and fear there could be a missile strike on a passenger airliner or a September 11-style attack, according to sources close to French intelligence.

‘Airlines have been warned of a possible attack on a plane with an anti-tank missile,’ a source told The Telegraph. ‘But pilots are unsure how to take evasive action.’

After Friday’s thwarted attempt to massacre passengers on an Amsterdam-Paris train and a series of terrorist attacks and attempted killings in France this year, President François Hollande warned the nation to prepare for more violence, considered inevitable as the Islamist threat grows.

The army has made contingency plans for the ‘reappropriation of national territory’, meaning to win back control of neighbourhoods where the population become hostile to the security forces and where guns are easily obtainable, according to the source.

‘There are a lot of alienated and angry fourth-generation immigrant kids in the suburbs and the prospect of radicalisation is increasingly likely,’ the source said.

‘The idea that attacks like the one on the train are carried out by individuals acting on their own is not credible. We’re dealing with highly-organised networks of militant Islamists embarked on a campaign of violence and determined to intensify it.’

Kalashnikov automatic rifles — used by the train gunman and Islamist terrorists who killed 17 people in Paris in January — and anti-tank missiles are now obtainable in France. Many were smuggled in from the former Yugoslavia after the Balkan wars in the 1990s. More weapons have come in from Libya, the sources said, adding that organised crime and terrorist groups were working together to procure them.

‘We don’t know what happened to the arms we (France) to Libyan rebels. It’s worrying,’ the source said.” Read more.

By Leo Hohmann, WND – “A judge on Monday unsealed the court documents of a grisly murder of a Christian man, allegedly at the hands of three Muslim immigrants in Portland, Maine.

In those documents, which had been sealed since the three men were charged Aug. 11, police said they found the brutally beaten body of Freddy Akoa lying on the living-room floor in his apartment. He was the victim of a savage attack that took place over several hours.

According to the autopsy report, he had cuts and bruises all over his body, with the fatal blows coming to his head.

Akoa, who had listed himself as a health-care professional on his LinkedIn page, had 22 rib fractures and a lacerated liver.

Akoa’s blood-splattered Bible was found lying next to his head.

The apartment was in disarray, with empty beer cans and trash strewn about, as though a party had come to an abrupt end at the onset of a physical altercation.

Akoa, 49, apparently knew his assailants, but police have not commented on the nature of their relationship.

He had been beaten and kicked in the head, and bashed in the head with a piece of furniture in an assault that continued relentlessly for hours, police said in the arrest affidavit.

But they were silent on what touched off the vicious attack.

Could they have been drinking and then gotten into an argument over religion? Police wouldn’t say if the Bible was found open or closed, but its presence so close to the body leaves one to wonder.

A prominent Saudi cleric and ally of Osama bin Laden who issued a 2003 fatwa permitting the use of weapons of mass destruction in jihad has pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State.

Nasser bin Hamad al-Fahd is behind bars in Saudi Arabia, but his direction for squabbling Muslim factions to unite behind Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as caliph could have significant reach — along with the fresh distribution of his fatwas on social media networks.

“I advise you to join, all of you, the Islamic State and to pledge allegiance to its leader, Amir al-Mumineen Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi – may Allah protect him – and fight under his banner,” al-Fahd wrote. “It is the state that raised the banner of Islam, and established Tawhid, and destroyed the idols, and implemented the Sharia. Allah has purified it from implementing man-made laws, from standing with the Disbelievers, and from supporting the Tawaghit, and has protected it from innovations, and misleading paths.”

He acknowledged that ISIS has made mistakes, but they should be forgiven since they’re under such pressure all the time.

“As to those who keep counting its mistakes, we say: Nobody is exempt from mistakes, and whatever the time in history, and however pure you might be. All sons of Adam make mistakes, and exemption from mistakes is only for the Prophets,” al-Fahd wrote.

“…What could we say about this blessed State? It has just emerged, still lacking capabilities, besieged, attacked from every side, arrows pointing to it from all around, its been defamed, slandered by all imaginable means, nations from all over the world agreed to fight it, and the scholars of the Tawaghit, the scholars of shame, the callers to falsehood, the mules of the sultans in every country have defamed and slandered it, and lied about it lies we have never seen in history. So how could they not make mistakes when they are in this situation?”

Some al-Nusra supporters online were claiming that the signature on the letter was forged, sparking a back-and-forth on Twitter between ISIS and al-Nusra/al-Qaeda supporters.

But needless to say, ISIS backers celebrated the news — and trumpeted his old fatwas for jihadis to catch up on.

In his 2003 WMD fatwa, al-Fahd ruled, “If the infidels can be repelled from the Muslims only by using such weapons, their use is permissible, even if you kill them without exception and destroy their tillage and stock.”

The international banning of certain types of weapons, he stressed, has no meaning under Islamic law. Under the Quran, he said, “One kills in a good manner only when one can. If those engaged in jihad cannot do so, for example when they are forced to bomb, destroy, burn, or flood, it is permissible.”…

The Straits Times – “The thwarted attack by a gunman on a high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris has underlined the difficulty faced by intelligence services in tracking the unprecedented numbers of potential Islamic militants, experts say.

The Moroccan suspect in Friday’s incident, identified as 25-year-old Ayoub El Khazzani, was first flagged by Spanish authorities as a potential extremist and had reportedly travelled to Syria.

He was overpowered by two US servicemen and other passengers before he could kill anyone in the train.

A Spanish counter-terrorism source said Khazzani had lived in Spain from 2007 to March 2014, before travelling to Syria from France.

In a timely interview published on the same day as the attack, Alain Grignard, a senior member of Belgium’s counter-terrorism police unit, said the terrorist threat has ‘never been higher in all the years I’ve been working’.

‘It boils down to mathematics and it’s all linked to the Syria dynamic,’ Grignard told CTC Sentinel, the in-house journal of the US military academy at West Point.

‘There’s no way of knowing the exact numbers but I can tell you with certainty that at least 300 have travelled – that’s the number we have sufficient evidence to bring charges against. At least 100 have returned to Belgium, but we are under no illusions that there aren’t more we don’t know about. It’s impossible to do surveillance on everybody.’

It’s a point driven home by terrorism expert Raffaello Pantucci, of the Royal United Services Institute in London.

‘The authorities know about a lot of people but not which ones will actually launch an attack,’ he said.

‘It’s a very resource-intensive job. You need three shifts with several people, and equipment and vehicles, to watch someone 24 hours a day. Intelligence agencies just aren’t big enough to do that for everyone.’ …

Grignard said the number of terrorism suspects had mushroomed in recent years.

‘To give you an idea of the scale of the challenge, in the past two years we’ve charged more people with terrorism offences than in the 30 years before that,’ he said.” Read more.

FOX News – “Off-duty members of the U.S. military subdued a gunman ‘known to intelligence services’ after he opened fire, injuring three aboard on a high-speed train en route to Paris from Amsterdam.

The suspected gunman was overpowered by off-duty U.S. soldiers when the train stopped in the northern French city of Arras, 115 miles north of Paris, French newspaper La Voix du Nord reported.

The suspect is a 26-year-old Moroccan, said Sliman Hamzi, an official with police union Alliance, said on French television i-Tele. He was later arrested.

The victims were identified as an American, a Briton and a Frenchman. Earlier reports said two American service members were among the injured. Two of the victims were in critical condition, according to a statement from the office of President Francois Hollande.

‘The situation is under control, the travelers are safe. The train stopped and the emergency services are on site,’ Thalys, the train operator, tweeted.

The attack took place while the train was passing through Belgium, according to a statement from the office Presidend Francois Hollande. Hollande said he’s spoken with Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and the two leaders pledged to cooperate closely on the investigation.
