Official: 3 Nuclear Reactors Melted Down After Quake, Japan Confirms

“Tokyo (CNN) — Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant experienced full meltdowns at three reactors in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami in March, the country’s Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters said Monday.

The nuclear group’s new evaluation, released Monday, goes further than previous statements in describing the extent of the damage caused by an earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

The announcement will not change plans for how to stabilize the Fukushima Daiichi plant, the agency said.

Reactors 1, 2 and 3 experienced a full meltdown, it said.

The plant’s owner, Tokyo Electric Power Co., admitted last month that nuclear fuel rods in reactors 2 and 3 probably melted during the first week of the nuclear crisis.

It had already said fuel rods at the heart of reactor No. 1 melted almost completely in the first 16 hours after the disaster struck. The remnants of that core are now sitting in the bottom of the reactor pressure vessel at the heart of the unit and that vessel is now believed to be leaking.” Read more.

Nuclear Engineer: Seattle Residents Breathed Ten ‘Hot’ Particles A Day – “Well, I am in touch with some scientists now who have been monitoring the air on the West Coast and in Seattle for instance, in April, the average person in Seattle breathed in 10 hot particles a day… The average human being breathes about 10 meters a day of air, cubic meters of air. And the air out in the Seattle area are detecting, when they pull 10 cubic meters through them, this is in April now, so we are in the end of May so it is a better situation now. That air filter will have 10 hot particles on it. And that was before the Unit Four issue. Clearly we all can’t run south of the equator to our second homes in Rio or something like that. But it will stay north of the equator for anyone who has a Leer jet and can get out. But I guess what I am advising at that point is keep your windows closed. I would definitely wear some sort of a filter if I was outside. I certainly wouldn’t run and exercise until I was sure the plume had dissipated. This isn’t now. This is, as you were saying, this is worst case.” Read more.

Sharia Creep in the UK: Muslim Care Home Owner Bans Pensioners from Eating Bacon Sandwiches

“A Muslim care home owner has been branded ‘a disgrace’ after banning his pensioner residents from eating bacon.

The 40 pensioners – none of them Muslim – were shocked when all pork products were cut off the menu by owner Dr Zulfikar Ali Khan.

He stopped deliveries from the butcher who supplied the home for years and instead ordered halal-meat only from another firm.

The 40 pensioners – none of them Muslim – were shocked when all pork products were cut off the menu by owner Dr Zulfikar Ali Khan.

It meant that the elderly residents at the 40-bed Queen’s Care Centre in the pit village of Maltby, near Rotherham, missed out on traditional favourites like bacon sandwiches, sausage and mash, ham sandwiches and sausage rolls.

But the move has brought a furious reaction from the 37-strong staff – and the families of residents.” Read more.

Terrorism in the UK: Universities ‘Complacent’ Over Islamic Radicals

06/06/2011 Leave a comment

By Duncan Gardham – “Theresa May told The Daily Telegraph that universities were not taking the issue of radicalisation seriously enough and that it was too easy for Muslim extremists to form groups on campuses ‘without anyone knowing’.

She also said the Government would cut funding to any Islamic group that espoused extremist views, and set out the ‘key British values’ to which those seeking support must subscribe. It is understood that about 20 groups are already losing their funding.

Mrs May made her comments ahead of the publication this week of the updated version of the Prevent counter-terrorism strategy.

‘I think for too long there’s been complacency around universities,’ she said. ‘I don’t think they have been sufficiently willing to recognise what can be happening on their campuses and the radicalisation that can take place. I think there is more that universities can do.’

Mrs May said universities had to ‘send very clear messages’ and ‘ask themselves some questions about what happens on their campuses’.” Read more.

40 UK universities are now breeding grounds for terror as hardline groups peddle hate on campus – “England’s universities have become a breeding ground for extremism and terrorist recruitment, according to a disturbing government report. Officials have identified 40 English universities where ‘there may be particular risk of radicalisation or recruitment on campus’. A soon to be published Whitehall report – seen by the Daily Mail – will point to a string of examples of students going on to commit terrorist acts against this country or overseas.” Read more.

Wheat Fields Wilt in Drought as Parched Earth Spreads From China to Kansas, ‘We’re Concerned About the World’

06/06/2011 2 comments

By Luzi Ann Javier, Madelene Pearson and Whitney McFerron – “The worst droughts in decades are wilting wheat fields from China to the U.S. to the U.K., overwhelming Russia’s return to grain markets and driving prices to the highest levels since 2008.

Parts of China, the biggest grower, had the least rain in a century, some European regions are the driest in 50 years and almost half the winter-wheat crop in the U.S., the largest exporter, is rated poor or worse. Inventory is dropping 8.8 percent, the most in five years, Rabobank International says. Prices will advance 20 percent to as high as $9.25 a bushel by Dec. 31, a Bloomberg survey of 14 analysts and traders shows.

Wheat as much as doubled in the past year as crops failed, spurring Ukraine and Russia to curb shipments and increasing the U.S. share of global sales by the most since 2004. Russia ending its export ban on July 1 and Ukraine lifting quotas may not be enough as crops wither elsewhere, fuelling gains in food prices which the United Nations says are already near a record.

‘In 32 years, I’ve never seen so many problems in so many places,’ said Dan Basse, the president of AgResource Co., a farm researcher in Chicago. ‘We’re concerned about the world story now,’ said Basse, who has been studying agricultural markets since 1979 and expects prices as high as $10 this year.” Read more.

Researcher: Iran Can Produce Nuke Within 2 Months

By Yitzhak Benhorin – “The Iranian regime is closer than ever before to creating a nuclear bomb, according to RAND Corporation researcher Gregory S. Jones.

At its current rate of uranium enrichment, Tehran could have enough for its first bomb within eight weeks, Jones said in a report published this week.

He added that despite reports of setbacks in its nuclear program, the Iranian regime is steadily progressing towards a bomb. Unfortunately, Jones says, there is nothing the US can do to stop Tehran, short of military occupation.

The researcher based his report on recent findings by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), published two weeks ago. Making the bomb will take around two months, he says, because constructing a nuclear warhead is a complicated step in the process.

Jones stresses that stopping Iran will require deploying forces on the ground, because airstrikes are no longer sufficient. The reality is that the US and Israel have failed to keep Iran from developing a nuclear warhead whenever it wants, Jones says.” Read more.

IAEA receives evidence Iran nuke program is military – “VIENNA – The UN atomic watchdog has received further information regarding activities that ‘seem to point to the existence’ of possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear program, the agency’s head said on Monday. ‘There are indications that certain of these activities may have continued until recently,’ Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said in a speech to the agency’s 35-nation governing board.” Read more.

Syria Claims 22 killed, Scores Hurt in Naksa Day Prostests at Israeli Border, IDF Unable to Confirm or Deny

“Israel Defense Forces killed 22 protesters trying to cross from Syrian into Israel during Naksa Day demonstrations Sunday, according to Syrian media reports. The IDF did not give any official number of fatalities.

IDF officers fear that Palestinian refugees will continue trying to breach Israel’s border with Syria, tying down large numbers of soldiers in the Golan Heights.

No Palestinians did cross the border Sunday in the second such attempt in less than a month. In contrast, hundreds surged across on Nakba Day, May 15. Syrian television reported that the IDF also injured hundreds in its effort to repulse them.

The IDF said that since all the casualties were on the Syrian side of the border it was unable to provide an exact count, but it expressed great skepticism about the Syrian figures. Soldiers fired ‘with precision’ at the bottom half of the bodies of the protesters, the army said. Many, if not most, of the casualties occurred when a brush fire, apparently ignited by Molotov cocktails hurled by the demonstrators, set off antitank mines along the border near Quneitra at about 5 P.M.” Read more.

Arizona Forest Fire Triggers New Evacuation Orders

“GREER, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities ordered more eastern Arizona residents to evacuate their homes Sunday as a 225-square-mile blaze that has grown into the third-largest in state history crept toward more buildings.

The Apache County sheriff’s office told an unknown number of people east of the town of Alpine along U.S. Highway 180 to get out as the forest fire crept closer.

Alpine itself has been under mandatory evacuation orders since Thursday night, along with the community of Nutrioso and several lodges and camps in the scenic high country.

Subdivisions close to the New Mexico border that were ordered emptied Sunday included Escudilla Mountain Estates, Bonita, Dog Patch, and the H-V Ranch east of Highway 180, fire information officer Eric Neitzel said.” Read more.

Mosques as Barracks in America

06/05/2011 Leave a comment

By Andrew G. Bostom – “Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan represents the triumphant Janus-faced approach to the fundamentalist global ‘Islamic revival.’ He and his pious forbears have now completed dismantling Turkey’s secular experiment, and achieved the full-throated re-Islamization of Turkish society, an insidious process begun already within the decade after Ataturk’s death, in 1938. When currying favor with gullible Western audiences, Erdogan burbles disingenuous ecumenical platitudes about the ‘Alliance of Civilizations.’ But in reality, this is an Islamization campaign promoted by the Organization of the Islamic Conference, notably Saudi Arabia, which rewarded Erdogan, for his role in the Alliance, specifically, as ‘services to Islam,’ with the ‘King Faisal International Prize,’ considered the ‘Nobel prize’ of the Arab world. Regardless, Erdogan has always aroused his Muslim constituencies by brazenly appealing to their deep-seated jihadist sentiments as he did while mayor of Istanbul, in 1997, delivering a fiery speech that reminded the masses of these words from the poem ‘The Soldier’s Prayer,’ written (in 1912) by Turkish nationalist poet Ziya Gokalp:

The minarets are our bayonets, the domes our helmets, the mosques our barracks and the faithful our army.

Cited appropriately by successful opponents of minaret construction in Switzerland, such rhetoric should now resonate uncomfortably in America with the online release Monday June 6, 2011 of alarming survey data from a representative national sample of US mosques.

During August 2007, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) released ‘Radicalization in the West – The Homegrown Threat.’ This insightful 90-page report evaluated the threat that had become apparent since 9/11/2001, analyzing the roots of recent terror plots in the United States, from Lackawanna in upstate New York to Portland, Ore., to Fort Dix, NJ. Based upon these case-study analyses of individuals arrested for jihadist activity, the authors concluded that the ‘journey’ of radicalization that produces homegrown jihadists began in so-called ‘Salafist’ (‘fundamentalist’ to non-Muslims) mosques characterized by high levels of Sharia-Islamic Law-adherence. The landmark study just published, ‘Sharia and Violence in American Mosques’ (Kedar M, Yerushalmi D. The Middle East Quarterly, Summer 2011, Vol. 18, No. 3, pp. 59-72) sought to expand considerably upon the NYPD’s post-hoc, case study approach-systematically gathering objective survey data, with much greater methodological rigor-and address these two a priori questions: I) Is there a robust association between observable measures of religious devotion, coupled to Sharia-adherence in US mosques, and the presence of violence-sanctioning materials at these mosques?; and II) Is there a robust association between the presence of violence-sanctioning materials at a mosque, and the advocacy of jihadism by the mosque’s leadership via recommending the study of these materials, or other manifest behaviors?” Read more.

Muslim Billboard Campaign That Declares Jesus a ‘Prophet of Islam’ Causes Outrage

2 Corinthians 11:3-4, “But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.”

Jude 1:3, “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”

Galatians 1:9, “As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!”

“A provocative billboard advertising campaign launched by an Australian Muslim group claiming that Jesus was a prophet of Islam has outraged Christians in Sydney.

The group, Mypeace, says its aim is to inform, not to offend, with Islamic awareness campaign, featuring four different slogans.

But one Catholic bishop said the assertions – made on roadside hoardings – are ‘a direct assault on Christian beliefs’.

The slogans read ‘Jesus: A Prophet of Islam’; ‘Holy Qur’an: The Final Testament’; ‘Muhammad: Mercy to Mankind’; and ‘Islam: Got Questions? Get Answers’.

The posters invite people to get in touch by phone or online to obtain literature and a free copy of the Koran.

Mypeace says they will stay up for four weeks and will later be placed on the city’s buses, Australian website cnsnews.com says.” Read more.

Nuclear Engineer: The Dangers of Fukushima Are Worse and Longer-Lived Than We Think, Tokyo in Danger

06/05/2011 Leave a comment

“‘I have said it’s worse than Chernobyl and I’ll stand by that. There was an enormous amount of radiation given out in the first two to three weeks of the event. And add the wind blowing in-land. It could very well have brought the nation of Japan to its knees. I mean, there is so much contamination that luckily wound up in the Pacific Ocean as compared to across the nation of Japan – it could have cut Japan in half. But now the winds have turned, so they are heading to the south toward Tokyo and now my concern and my advice to friends that if there is a severe aftershock and the Unit 4 building collapses, leave. We are well beyond where any science has ever gone at that point and nuclear fuel lying on the ground and getting hot is not a condition that anyone has ever analyzed.’

So cautions Arnie Gundersen, widely-regarded to be the best nuclear analyst covering Japan’s Fukushima disaster. The situation on the ground at the crippled reactors remains precarious and at a minimum it will be years before it can be hoped to be truly contained. In the near term, the reactors remain particularly vulnerable to sizable aftershocks, which still have decent probability of occuring. On top of this is a growing threat of ‘hot particle’ contamination risk to more populated areas as weather patterns shift with the typhoon season and groundwater seepage.”  Read more.  Download interview here.

High levels of radiation found at Japan nuclear plant – “Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) said it sent a robot into the building of reactor 1 Friday and detected up to 4,000 millisieverts per hour at the south-east corner of the building. That means staying in that area for four minutes makes a worker exposed to the maximum annual limit of 250 millisieverts per year though no worker plans to work there, the operator said.” Read more.

Are Mutations Already Beginning to Occur Around Fukushima?

06/04/2011 Leave a comment

“A nuclear rabbit has sparked online panic in Japan. Amateur footage shows an earless mutant rabbit, and the person who made the video claims it was shot just outside the exclusion zone near Japan’s crippled Fukushima plant. The clip has given rise to fears the radiation threat in the area is far worse than previously thought. The funny bunny has caused an online frenzy, with predictions that babies in Japan may soon be born with mutations.”
