By Rachel Olding, The Sydney Morning Herald – “A 14-year-old Islamic State supporter yelled abuse at Christian school students and flew the terrorist group’s flag through western Sydney just two days before his family were targeted in sweeping counter-terrorism raids.

The boy is the third member of his family to come under the gaze of authorities for supporting the powerful terrorist group, whose recruitment strategy is unashamedly aimed at young people in western countries.

The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is among the youngest Islamic State supporters to emerge in Sydney but community leaders have warned that his case is becoming disturbingly common.

The boy has pleaded guilty in Parramatta Children’s Court to driving past the Maronite College of the Holy Family in Harris Park on September 16 and yelling death threats at students and one teacher.

He sat in the passenger seat waving an Islamic State flag out the window while his friend, an 18-year-old who also cannot be named because he was a juvenile at the time, drove the red hatchback.

Two days later, the boy’s family home in western Sydney was raided as part of a federal investigation into an alleged plot to behead a random member of the public in Sydney and drape an Islamic State flag over them.

Police officers searched the family’s unit looking for Islamic State material and seized laptops and mobile phones but no one was charged.

The following week, the 14-year-old and his friend were arrested over the attack on the Maronite College and charged with offensive conduct and intimidating a school staff member.

The boy appeared in Parramatta Children’s Court on Monday in tracksuit pants and sneakers and had his night curfew removed while he awaited sentencing later this year.

He has been on strict bail after the court deemed that his conduct towards the children and a teacher at the school was ‘totally inappropriate… in the current climate’.” Read more.

A decorated army veteran renowned for rescuing youths from Islamic State today warned that the terrorist group is placing ‘sleeper cells’ in European countries including the UK.

Dimitri Bontinck, who is known as the ‘Jihadi Hunter’, spoke out as he prepared to support his own teenage son in a criminal trial after bringing him home from Syria.

It came as Home Secretary Theresa May and senior British police chiefs also said that a terrorist atrocity involving an ISIS-style beheading or bomb attack on civilians is now ‘almost inevitable’.

Referring to their campaign of atrocities carried out abroad, Mr Bontinck, 41, told MailOnline: ‘It’s not the kids who are the principal danger – it’s the chiefs whom you never see in the videos.

‘The mature men running this organisation are deeply sinister, and extremely well-funded, and they have European countries such as Britain, France and Belgium in their sights.’

He added: ‘Their aim is to take revenge against the west for what they view as an all-out assault on them, and they will strike when they are ready.

‘I’ve been told by very influential sources that they have sleeper cells over here, and are preparing to unleash their war in Europe.’

Mr Bontinck, a Belgian national who is based in Antwerp, has completed seven missions to Syria to help rescue his son, 19-year-old Jejoen, along with other youths in the same position.

The special forces trained negotiator insists that Jejoen is innocent of any wrongdoing, and that the authorities should not be ‘stigmatising and criminalising youngsters who fall in with the wrong crowd’.

Jejoen was raised as a Catholic, attending a Jesuit school in Antwerp, but converted to Islam at 15 after going out with a local Muslim girl.

He became radicalised under the influence of the now-banned Sharia4Belgium group and then travelled to the Syrian civil war zone after flying to Turkey….

By Bob Unruh, WND – “An ISIS propaganda video features a pint-sized Muslim preacher exhorting fellow Muslims to hurry and ‘purchase your place in paradise’ by becoming a martyr for Islam.

The video was discovered by the Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors media in the region.

The preacher, apparently about 9 or 10 years old, is identified as Abu Jafar.

His message: ‘Make haste and purchase your place in paradise, my dear brother. Go to the battlefields of jihad and kill the enemies. Kill [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad and the enem”ies of Allah and of our religion. Destroy them, and if you die, you will become a martyr.’

He said any martyr ‘will be married off to 72 wives from among the black-eyed virgins.’

‘Indeed, he will be married off to 72 black-eyed virgins. Indeed, how beautiful is martyrdom, brother,’ Abu Jafar said.

‘See how men today chase half-naked women, and forget all about the black-eyed virgins, any of whom can light everything between heaven and earth with a look or a smile,’ he said. ‘So what’s the point of chasing the women of this world? Forget about those women. Go for the black-eyed virgins. How can you be chasing half-naked women, and forget about those who are much prettier? Dear brother, if you want a beautiful woman, make hast toward the black-eyed virgins.'” Read more.

By Khan Mohammad, AFP – “About 50 people were killed and 60 others wounded when a suicide blast ripped through crowds at a volleyball game in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, the deadliest attack in the country since 2011.

The explosion struck during a tournament between three local teams in Paktika province, a volatile region bordering Pakistan, with many children among the dead and injured.

The high death toll underlined the challenges facing Ashraf Ghani, the new Afghan president, as US-led NATO troops wind down operations and the national security forces take over responsibility for imposing stability.

‘I and my friends were watching the game and we were cheering each time our team scored,’ Abdulhay, an 11-year boy being treated for minor injuries in hospital in Sharana, the provincial capital of Paktika, told AFP by telephone.

‘Then I heard a boom that threw me back unconscious. I opened my eyes in the hospital and don’t know if my friends are dead or alive.’

There was no immediate response from the Taliban, the insurgent group behind many of the attacks across Afghanistan.

‘The suicide attacker was on a motorcycle, he detonated himself in the middle of a volleyball match,’ Attaullah Fazli, deputy governor of Paktika, told AFP.

‘A lot of people including some provincial officials and the police chief were there. About 50 people have been killed, and 60 injured, a lot of them seriously.'” Read more.

By Aaron Ross, Reuters – “Suspected Ugandan ADF-NALU rebels have killed between 50 and 80 people in attacks near the eastern Congolese town of Beni, slitting the throats of many of their victims, local sources and witnesses said on Friday.

In a statement, Civil Society of North Kivu, the province where Beni is situated, said the killings had occurred on Thursday evening about 10 km (6 miles) east of Beni airport, where U.N. peacekeepers, known as MONUSCO, are based.

‘We already saw 70 bodies. The authorities are searching for other bodies,’ said a priest who saw the massacre site.

The attackers were dressed in Congolese army fatigues and pretended to be soldiers before the killings and they slit many of their victims’ throats, said the priest, who declined to be named.

Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo and civil society groups have blamed a string of recent attacks in the east of the country on ADF, a secretive organisation formed in the 1990s to fight the Ugandan government, though some analysts have questioned this assessment.

North Kivu Governor Julien Paluku told Reuters nine bodies had arrived at the morgue in the nearby town of Oicha after the latest attacks, but said the toll could rise. Paluku also blamed the Ugandan rebels for the deaths.” Read more.

Bangkok Post – “Boko Haram gunmen killed 48 fish vendors in Nigeria’s restive Borno State, near the border with Chad, the head of the fish traders association told AFP on Sunday.

‘Scores of Boko Haram fighters blocked a route linking Nigeria with Chad near the fishing village of Doron Baga on the shores of Lake Chad on Thursday and killed a group of 48 fish traders‎ on their way to Chad to buy fish,’ Abubakar Gamandi said.

He said the insurgents set up a barricade at Dogon Fili, 15 kilometres (nine miles) from Doron Baga, and stopped a convoy of fish vendors around midday, slaughtering some of them and drowning others in the lake.

‘The Boko Haram gunmen slit the throats of some of the men and tied the hands and legs of the others before throwing them into the lake to drown,’ Gamandi told AFP by telephone from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Doron Baga, 180 kilometres from Maiduguri, is the base of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), comprising troops from Nigeria, Chad and Niger fighting the Islamist group.

The MNJTF was formed in 1998 to fight trans-border crime but its mandate was expanded to tame the Boko Haram insurgency in the volatile region.

Gamandi claimed the assailants killed all of their victims without using their guns.

‘The attackers killed their victims silently without the use of the gun to avoid attracting attention from the multi-national troops,’ Gamandi said.

A military officer in Maiduguri confirmed the attack but said details were sketchy.

‘We heard of the attack near Doron Baga but we don’t have any details because the area falls under the operational jurisdiction of the MNJTF,’ the military officer said.

News of the attack was slow to emerge due to the destruction of mobile phone towers in the area by Boko Haram in previous attacks.” Read more.
