Canada Condemns Egyptian Anti-Christian Violence, Obama Remains Silent
By KEITH KOFFLER – “Even as he renews his outreach to Muslims, President Obama should seek to stem the growing tide of violence against Coptic Christians in Egypt by condemning last weekend’s attacks that left a dozen people dead and scores injured.
The attacks, about which Obama has been silent, also resulted in the burning of Coptic Orthodox churches and the destruction of Christian homes and businesses.
The president needs to say more to stem religious violence that creates opportunities for Islamic extremists who want to seize power in Egypt, our most important Arab ally.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Monday ‘strongly’ condemned the violence, saying, ‘We stand behind the Coptic Christian community and their right to practice their faith in safety and security, free of persecution.’
The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Obama is preparing to try to reengage Muslims with a speech, possibly next week, that will make the case that Muslims should ‘reject Islamic militancy in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s death and embrace a new era of relations with the U.S.'” Read more.
Salafi Clerics in Egypt Express Hatred Toward Christians on TV; Military-Salafi Relations in Egypt Raise Questions
By Kristen Chick – “The deadly clashes between Muslims and Christians in Cairo this weekend have heightened already growing concern about the role of fundamentalist Muslims known as Salafis in post-revolution Egypt…
‘They don’t want Christians in Egypt. They want an Islamic state,’ said a woman who gave her name as Mona at a Christian protest Monday against the weekend violence…
They practice what they believe to be the purest form of Islam, and are primarily concerned with living their lives according to such teaching, and not with politics, says Diaa Rashwan, an expert on Islamist groups at the Al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. He describes Egyptian Salafis as ‘in this middle place between jihadists like Osama bin Laden and political Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood.’
… Al Qaeda’s members follow a form of Salafism, but Egyptian Salafi clerics say that unlike the global terrorist group they have renounced violence. Yet Salafi clerics on television have railed hatefully against Christianity, and in March a Christian man in Qena said Salafists cut off his ear after accusing him of renting an apartment to a prostitute.” Read more.
Military-Salafi relations in Egypt raise questions – “As sectarian violence blamed on hard-line Salafi Muslims continues to rise, many are voicing sharp criticism of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and its transitional cabinet, accusing them of failing to apply the law so far as radicals are concerned.” Read more.
Islamic Extremists Target Christian Village in Nigeria, Pastor’s Wife and Children Among Those Killed
“KURUM, Nigeria, May 10 (CDN) — As she lay on the ground after being shot and then slashed with a machete, Dune James Rike looked into her husband’s tear-filled eyes and asked, ‘Is this the end between us, so we shall not be together again?’
Pastor James Musa Rike told Compass he held the hands of his dying, 35-year-old wife and told her, ‘Hold on to your faith in Jesus, and we shall meet and never part again.’
Muslim extremists who attacked Kurum village, in the Bogoro local government area of Nigeria’s Bauchi state, had already killed two of the couple’s children in a rampage that began Wednesday (May 4) at midnight. Rike, pastor of a Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) congregation in Kurum, next heard the cries of his 13-year-old daughter, Sum James Rike, a few yards away.” Read more.
Egypt: Situation Deteriorating Badly and Rapidly, Muslim Leaders Want Islamic State
“In the wake of bloody Muslim attacks on Egyptian Christians, the New York Times informs us:
‘By lifting the heavy hand of the Mubarak police state, the revolution unleashed long-suppressed sectarian animosities that have burst out with increasing ferocity….’
No kidding! Did you think a single Egyptian Christian didn’t know this in February? Why didn’t the media report or the U.S. government understand that this was absolutely inevitable and predictable? But the only mentions of Christians were to claim that they were really enthusiastic about the revolution.
The remaining Christians in most of the Arabic-speaking world may be on the edge of flight or extinction. All of the Christians have left the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip which is, in effect, an Islamist republic. They are leaving the West Bank. Half have departed from an increasingly Islamist-oriented Iraq where they are under terrorist attack. Within a few years they might all be gone.” Read more.
Muslim leaders: We want an Islamic state – “‘God’s words must rule and Islam must be in the hearts of the citizens,’ said Jama’a al-Islamiya spokesman Osama Hafez. ‘The Islamic movements are uniting, despite their different ideologies, because they feel Islam is threatened,’ said Muslim Brotherhood lawyer Montasser al-Zayat.” Read more.
Egypt: 50,000 Attend Islamist Rally: ‘The United Arab States and the United Islamic States are Inevitably Coming, and Soon We Will Have One Caliph to Rule Us All’
They say that attacks against Coptic Christians in Egypt is wrong because they’re ‘protected by Islam’ as Dhimmis who pay the Jizya tax. But what they don’t tell you, of course, is that the Jizya tax upon non-Muslims will be abolished by the ‘Islamic Jesus’ either because all non-Muslims will have already been killed, or because it will remove the so-called ‘protection’ given to Dhimmis (non-Muslims) that are still alive because by this time “all mankind will be required to embrace Islam with no alternative”, or be killed …
By Hany ElWaziry – “More than 50,000 people on Saturday attended a joint rally held by the Muslim Brotherhood group and Salafis in Haram district, Giza.
The organizers chanted slogans stating that the Brotherhood and the Salafis are one, and that both seek to apply the Islamic Sharia.
‘The United Arab States and the United Islamic States are inevitably coming,’ said prominent Salafi preacher Safwat Hegazy at the rally. ‘And soon we will have one caliph to rule us all.’
Hegazy condemned those who burnt the church in Imbaba on Saturday. ‘They are not Salafis or Brothers, nor are they Egyptians,’ he said. ‘They are the enemy that incites sectarian strife.’
Salafi preacher Mohamed Hassan, for his part, called on all Islamic groups to reassure Muslims and Christians alike. ‘Egypt does not belong to the Muslims alone,” he said. “And Copts are protected by Islam. They need not resort to the United States for that.'” Source.
Anglican Bishop Blasts West’s Silence on Christian Persecution Throughout the Muslim World
“An Anglican bishop in the Church of England has criticized the West’s reticence on violence against Christians and other minority communities in the Middle East, South Asia and other parts of the world.
Writing in the latest edition of Standpoint magazine, Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali said the United Nations had taken the necessary steps to protect people in Libya from attacks by their own government, but questioned why the United Nations or the West was ‘unable to tackle the widespread and growing persecution of Christians?’
He voiced particular concern over Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, where the Christian communities face regular attacks and harassment at the hands of Muslims.” Read more.
Riots, Church Burning Drag Muslim-Christian Relations to New Low in Post-Revolution Egypt
“CAIRO — Relations between Egypt’s Muslims and Christians degenerated to a new low Sunday after riots overnight left 12 people dead and a church burned, adding to the disorder of the country’s post-revolution transition to democracy.
The attack on the church was the latest sign of assertiveness by an extreme, ultraconservative movement of Muslims known as Salafis, whose increasing hostility toward Egypt’s Coptic Christians over the past few months has met with little interference from the country’s military rulers.” Read more.
Muslim Attackers Kill 17 Christians In Nigeria
“ABUJA, NIGERIA (BosNewsLife)– Christians in northern Nigeria were mourning Saturday, May 7, after Muslim attackers reportedly killed 17 Christians, including the wife and three children of a pastor. Several Christian homes were also burned in the village of Kurum in Nigeria’s tense Bauchi State, said advocacy group International Christian Concern (ICC).
ICC told BosNewsLife that it learned about the massacre Friday, May 6. ‘It is not right for anyone to kill another person, life is precious and a gift from God,’ explained ICC’s Regional Manager for Africa, Jonathan Racho. No more details were immediately available, but the attack was the latest in a series of recent incidents in which hundreds of people died.” Read more.
Islamists Slaughter Christians in Nigeria, Obama Looks the Other Way
By Anna Mahjar-Barducci – “Although Sharia law has existed in Northern Nigeria for a long time, it used to apply only to family matters such as divorce, inheritance and adoption. It was only in 1999 that the governor of the Nigerian Northern State of Zamfara, Alhaji Ahmed Sani, decided to apply Shari law. The governor instead wanted to go farther and to include flogging, stoning, amputation, beheading, and other precepts of Islamic law.. Ever since, the Northern Nigerian States have followed Zamfara’s steps. Under the Sharia law, Nigerian women have been sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, have been forbidden to rent houses and to travel in the same vehicles as men.
African Christians are now fearing for their lives after the recent massacres in Nigeria. Large scale violence from extremist Muslims erupted in Nigeria against the Christian population soon after the results of the country’s presidential elections that took place on April 16th 2011. The outburst of violence started in the north of Nigeria, which has a predominantly Muslim majority, after the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian politician. President Jonathan defeated the other presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim and former Nigerian President, who was accused of having rigged the electoral process. Jonathan’s victory represented a shift of power in the country to the largely Christian south.
Defeated candidate Buhari’s Muslim supporters took to the streets chanting ‘changi, sai Buhari’ [‘Change must take place and only with Buhari’], and went on a rampage against the Christian supporters of President Jonathan. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) lamented that in just a few days, over 300 churches were burnt across the country’s northern states; thousands of Christian-owned homes and business were destroyed, and at least 600 Christians were killed. Relief officials estimate that at least 65,000 people have been displaced as a result of the violence, which appears to be one of the worst outbursts of sectarian violence between Muslims and Christians in the country.” Read more.
Muslim Mobs Burn Down 288 Churches, Kill Hundreds In Nigeria

ICC – “On April 18, Kenneth Ngeumpa was eating his breakfast and getting ready to go to work in the metropolitan city of Kaduna when violence broke out. He watched in terror as a Muslim mob led by his neighbor approached his home shooting and calling for murder of his family.
Ngeumpa and 12 members of his family narrowly escaped from the attackers by fleeing through the back door of their home before the mob set the house on fire, burning their entire property to the ground.
Ngeumpa was lucky to escape with his life. Many other Christians were not so lucky. Muslim attackers have killed hundreds in the attacks that began on April 18. ICC source travelled to the towns of Zonkwa and Kafanchan in Kaduna, where more than 300 people, mostly Christians, were massacred. It is impossible to know the exact number of victims because the Nigerian officials quickly conducted a mass burial of the victims in order to prevent any revenge attacks and cool down the crisis. The Muslim attackers also burned down 288 churches and several Christian homes.
Christians living in ten of the 12 Muslim majority States in northern Nigeria have been affected by the violence that started in response to the election of Jonathan Goodluck, a Christian, as president of Nigeria. The rioters even destroyed the homes of many Muslims who supported President Jonathan Goodluck. In some areas, Christians fought back and killed their Muslim attackers.
Many in the mainstream media attributed the violence only to politics. There is no doubt that the election was the immediate cause for the attacks, but over the past two decades Nigerian Christians living in the northern part of the country have suffered several violent attacks. It is clearly denial of the truth for the media not to report the victimization of Christian minorities in northern Nigeria.
Unfortunately, many of the perpetrators will get away with murdering Christians and destroying their property.” Read more.
