Israel Warns: If “Ceasefire” With Hezbollah Collapses, Israel Will No Longer Distinguish Between The State Of Lebanon And Hezbollah

For nearly two decades, Hezbollah has successfully managed to embed itself deeply within Lebanese politics, institutions and society. Hezbollah now even “has de facto control over the military intelligence through Shia officers serving there and has “infiltrated the state security apparatus in the name of cooperation and fairness.” It has become to Lebanon what the IRGC has become to Iran, and the days where Lebanon could hide behind an imaginary line separating the state from the snake may soon be coming to an end …

The Times of Israel – “Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Tuesday that if the recently implemented ceasefire with Hezbollah collapses, the state of Lebanon will no longer be exempt from blame for attacks, and Israel’s military responses will not distinguish between the terror group and the country where it is based.

Katz’s remarks came a day after the ceasefire, reached last week after 14 months of conflict initiated by Hezbollah, was rattled by a Hezbollah mortar attack on Israeli territory and retaliatory IDF strikes on southern Lebanon…

‘We will work with all our might to enforce all the understandings of the ceasefire agreement, and we show maximum response and zero tolerance,’ Katz said during a visit to the northern border areas whose 60,000 residents were evacuated last October when Hezbollah began cross-border fire in support of Hamas amid the Palestinian terror group’s war with Israel.

‘Yesterday was the first test, [Hezbollah] shooting at Mount Dov. We reacted strongly and this is exactly what we will do, and we will not allow Hezbollah to return to the old methods they had, such as the tent that was set up and not attacked,’ he said, referring to a Hezbollah structure that was placed along the so-called Blue Line that demarcates between the Israel and Lebanon.

Katz said that Lebanon must ‘authorize the Lebanese army to enforce their part, to keep Hezbollah away beyond the Litani [River] and to dismantle all the infrastructure.’

‘If they don’t do it and this whole agreement collapses, then the reality will be very clear. First of all, if we return to war we will act strongly, we will go deeper, and the most important thing they need to know is that there will be no longer be immunity for the state of Lebanon,’ he continued.” Read more.

How Hezbollah Holds Sway Over The Lebanese State And Its Institutions – “Lebanon’s political system enables Hezbollah and other actors to exercise power without responsibility… Hezbollah is not regarded as an auxiliary military force: the Lebanese constitution does not make provision for such forces. Instead, since 2008, various ministerial statements have enshrined Hezbollah’s status as the only legitimately armed entity other than the Lebanese Armed Forces… the ministerial statements have given Hezbollah a free pass to use force at its own discretion under the pretext of national security… Hezbollah forced a military takeover of Beirut [in 2008], leading to a government crisis that was resolved with the formation of a new national unity administration in which Hezbollah and its allies had veto rights for the first time… Hezbollah’s use of weapons to intimidate its opponents paved the way for it to entrench – by force – its special status within the Lebanese state and thus increase its political influence. Since 2008, Hezbollah has regularly invoked the ‘army, people, resistance’ formula to justify its actions… Today, Hezbollah is the dominant force in Lebanese politics.” Read more

US, France And Israel Announce Israel-Lebanon “Ceasefire” … And Hezbollah Violates It Hours Later

Hezbollah was not a signatory to the just announced “ceasefire” between Israel and Lebanon. A “ceasefire” that does not directly include the enemy you’re fighting against is unilateral, and a “ceasefire” that is unilateral is not a ceasefire. It is politics. To what end remains to be seen. Perhaps any significant violation will be blamed on Iran, giving Israel the pretext to respond against Iran in a much more forceful manner. Whatever the plans are behind the scenes, considering the fact that an actual 2006 ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah turned out to be nothing but an abject failure, does anyone truly believe that a “ceasefire” which omits Hezbollah will result in a peaceful northern Israel border this time around? Don’t count on it …

Lebanon Ceasefire Takes Effect – “The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon went into effect at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, hours after the Israeli Cabinet on Tuesday evening approved the ceasefire deal, which was brokered by the US, by a majority of 10 to 1.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated, ‘The Security Cabinet, this evening (Tuesday, 26 November 2024), in a 10-1 vote, approved the US proposal for a ceasefire arrangement in Lebanon. Israel appreciates the US contribution to the process, and maintains its right to act against any threat to its security.’

‘Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this evening (Tuesday, 26 November 2024), spoke to US President Joe Biden and thanked him for the US involvement in achieving the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and for the understanding that Israel maintains freedom of action in enforcing it,’ the PMO said.

The only minister who voted against the proposal was National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

‘The Cabinet’s decision tonight is a serious mistake. A ceasefire at this stage will not return the residents of the north to their homes, will not deter Hezbollah, and will in fact miss a historic opportunity to deal them a hard blow and bring them to their knees,’ Ben Gvir said.” Read more.

1st Ceasefire Violation: Hezbollah Terrorists Near Israeli Border, IDF Fires Warning – “IDF forces on Wednesday morning responded to a ceasefire violation by the Hezbollah terror group. During the incident, Hezbollah terrorists neared the Lebanese village of Kfarkela, which overlooks the northern Israeli town of Metula. Spotting the terrorists, the Israeli forces fired warning shots. The incident follows a ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon – to which the Hezbollah terror group is not a signatory – which promises that south of the Litani River, there will be only Lebanese military forces, and not military forces of Hezbollah or any other terror group.” Read more.

Iran Reportedly Now Encouraging Hezbollah To Strive For A Ceasefire As Netanyahu Calls Upon Lebanese Citizens To Oust Hezbollah From Country

Under Islam, a “ceasefire” (called a “hudna”) is temporary and in no way, shape or form should it ever be conflated with “peace.” Under the Islamic Republic of Iran’s own doctrine — and by extension all of their terrorist proxies — peace with Israel is expressly forbidden and any “ceasefire” is nothing more than an illusion of relative calm in order to provide the enemies of Israel enough time to regroup and rearm for the next battle against the Jewish state. If “peace” is the goal, a “ceasefire” is not a means to that end for Israel, but it is a means to an end for Israel’s enemies

The Jerusalem Post – “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had killed a top Hezbollah leader, Hashem Safieddine, who has not been seen since October 3, in a message he delivered to the Lebanese people urging them to oust the Iranian proxy group from their country.

‘We have degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities; we took out thousands of terrorists, including [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of his replacement,’ Netanyahu stated.

‘Today, Hezbollah is weaker than it has been for many many years,’ he stressed in an unusual English language video.

Netanyahu called on the Lebanese people to save their country by ousting the Iranian proxy group Hezbollah, a non-state actor which he explained had destroyed Lebanon, which had once been known as the ‘Perl’ of the Middle East.

‘So, what happened to Lebanon? A gang of tyrants and terrorists destroyed it. That’s what happened.’

‘Lebanon was once known for its tolerance, for its beauty.

Today, it’s a place of chaos, a place of war,’ Netanyahu stated.

‘You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering, as we see in Gaza. It doesn’t have to be that way,’ Netanyahu said.” Read more.

Lebanese Sources: Iran Is Now Encouraging Hezbollah To Strive For A Ceasefire – “During a visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Lebanon, it was suggested to the Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati and Hezbollah to focus on examining the possibility of stopping the fighting … the Iranian pressure comes due to an attempt to ‘cut losses’. Sources in Lebanon claim that the Iranian Foreign Minister’s proposal was to abandon at this stage the discussions on electing a new president for the country and to focus solely on examining the possibility of stopping the fighting … Earlier today, Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Naim Qassem for the first time did not link the ceasefire talks to conditions related to the situation in the Gaza Strip.” Read more.

The Jerusalem Post – “IDF soldiers entered southern Lebanon as part of a ground assault on Monday night as the conflict with Hezbollah continues to escalate, AFP reported.

Shortly thereafter, Arabic media such as Al-Jazeera and MTV Lebanon claimed that IDF tanks had entered multiple villages in southern Lebanon.

‘This is what they have informed us that they are currently conducting, which are limited operations targeting Hezbollah infrastructure near the border,’ US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said to the press on Monday, according to AFP.

The IDF has yet to announce or confirm that any such ground invasion, the first IDF ground operation in Lebanon since the Second Lebanon War in 2006, has been launched.

However, the IDF Spokesperson in Arabic, Avichay Adraee, warned residents of Beirut suburbs to evacuate on Monday night.” Read more.
