Japan: Decrease in White Blood Cells, Headaches, Nausea in Sendai City Hospital; Hair From Patients ‘Comes Off in a Clump’

08/13/2011 2 comments

Where is the mainstream media?  The Japanese are eating radioactive vegetableseggs, rice, beef, and who knows what else, not to mention what they’re drinking. Biologists are now saying that this disaster is much worse than they had thought, and TEPCO admits that this is going to continue for at least another decade. Expect to hear more and more about patients in Japan getting sick and dying.  And, eventually, not just in Japan either …

“Tweets from a nurse (my very good guess from her tweets) in a large hospital in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture on August 10:

Increasing number of patients with unexplainable decrease in white blood cells, headache, nausea. They are diagnosed for existing illness and undergo treatment, but they don’t respond to the treatment at all. I’ve seen those cases in my hospital. I’m not saying they are all because of the radiation exposure, but I’m telling you what I’m seeing.

When we wash their hair, it comes off in a clump. It is really scary. The doctor says, ‘I really wonder why the white blood cell count is down…’ Doctor, don’t be so relaxed about it. There is going to be more and more people who don’t respond to treatment.

She suspects internal radiation from hospital meals, which the in-patients have no choice but eat.” Read more.

Fukushima’s Groundwater Contamination May Be the Worst We’ve Ever Seen in Nuclear History

05/09/2011 Leave a comment

Chief Nuclear Engineer A. Gundersen discusses Fukushima ground water contamination, which could be the worst contamination in the history of the nuclear industry, and discusses a letter from a Japanese government nuclear official and how the Island of Japan was “just plain lucky due to the favorable meteorological conditions during the entire developments of the accident…  We were very lucky even with a large release from 1F3, due to the most severe hydrogen explosion, that could have induced a heavy land contamination.  This resulted from the wind direction toward the sea at the time of the release, although this must have resulted in a wider ocean contamination far from the Fukushima Daiichi.”

Radiation Levels in Fukushima Underground Water Rise 38x During Past Week

“The operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says radiation levels in underground water gathered in so-called sub-drain pits rose by up to 38 times during the past week.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, is working to remove contaminated water from the basements of the turbine buildings and tunnels. The contaminated water is hindering efforts to restore the reactors’ cooling systems.

TEPCO said that in its monitoring on Wednesday, it found 400 becquerels of iodine-131 and 53 becquerels of cesium-134 per cubic centimeter in the No. 1 reactor’s sub-drain pit. These levels are 6 times and 38 times higher than a week ago respectively.”  Read more.

‘Radiation Levels Are So High That Monitoring Devices Have Been Rendered Useless’

“A radiation monitor at the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says workers there are exposed to immeasurable levels of radiation.

The monitor told NHK that no one can enter the plant’s No. 1 through 3 reactor buildings because radiation levels are so high that monitoring devices have been rendered useless. He said even levels outside the buildings exceed 100 millisieverts in some places.

Pools and streams of water contaminated by high-level radiation are being found throughout the facility.

The monitor said he takes measurements as soon as he finds water, because he can’t determine whether it’s contaminated just by looking at it. He said he’s very worried about the safety of workers there.”  Read more.

Radiation in Japan Seas: Risk of Animal Death, Mutation?

By Christine Dell’Amore – “If radioactive material from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant—disabled by the March 11 Japan earthquake and tsunami—continues to enter the ocean, marine life could be threatened, experts say.

In the past week, seawater samples taken near the nuclear power plant, on Japan’s eastern coast, have shown elevated levels of radioactive isotopes, including cesium 137 and iodine 131, according to the New York Times.

All life on Earth and in the oceans lives with exposure to natural levels of ionizing radiation—high-frequency radiation with enough energy to change DNA. Most such genetic damage heals, but the addition of human-made radiation can make it harder for the body to repair broken genes.” Read more.

Japan on ‘Maximum’ Radiation Alert as Poison Particles from Nuke Plant are Found in OXFORDSHIRE

By Richard Shears

  • Traces of radioactive iodide from Fukushima leak also found in Glasgow
  • Pool of radioactive water found outside stricken power station complex
  • Workers battle to remove contaminated water but source of leak is unknown
  • True readings are 100,000 times above normal – but not 10m as earlier stated
  • Crews find traces of plutonium in soil outside stricken complex
  • Protesters warn of ‘another Fukushima’ at Hamaoka plant in quake hotspot
  • Final death toll from earthquake and tsunami expected to top 18,000

Radiation from the Fukushima leak has also been detected across Britain, it was confirmed today as Japan was put on ‘maximum’ alert.

The Health Protection Agency revealed that radioactive iodine had already been discovered 5,500 miles from the stricken plant in Oxfordshire and Glasgow.

Air samples are being tested elsewhere in Britain over fears that much of the country could be hit by the radioactive plume.

Dr Michael Clark of the HPA said: ‘Very low levels of radioactivity, traceable to Fukushima, have been detected at monitoring stations in the UK including Chilton, in Oxfordshire, and Glasgow, in Scotland.”  Read more.

Radiation From Japan Reaches British Columbia

By Tracy Sherlock, Vancouver Sun – “Radiation from the Japanese nuclear reactor damaged in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami has been detected in B.C. seaweed and rainwater samples, researchers say.

Tests found iodine-131 in samples taken in the Lower Mainland on March 19, 20 and 25, Simon Fraser University said in a news release Monday.

SFU nuclear scientist Kris Starosta is confident the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is responsible for the recent discovery, but he said there is no immediate danger to the public.

‘As of now, the levels we’re seeing are not harmful to humans. We’re basing this on Japanese studies following the Chernobyl incident in 1986 where levels of iodine-131 were four times higher than what we’ve detected in our rainwater so far,’ Starosta said.”  Read more.

Reactor No. 3 Core May Be Leaking at Damaged Fukushima Plant

“By Go Onomitsu and Takashi Hirokawa – (Bloomberg) – Japan’s nuclear regulator said a reactor core at the quake-damaged Fukushima power plant may be leaking after workers were injured by radioactive water.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said yesterday there may be some kind of leak from the reactor, causing high levels of radiation found in water in the basement of the reactor No. 3’s turbine building.

‘We’re trying to prevent a deterioration of the situation,” Prime Minister Naoto Kan said in a public address in Tokyo yesterday. ‘We must continue to work with a high sense of alertness.’

Repair work at the site of the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl has been plagued by explosions, fires and leaks of toxic material. The plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., said pools of radioactive water had accumulated at other reactors, Kyodo News reported.”  Read more.

Nuclear Expert: ‘Fukushima Probably Exceeds Chernobyl and There is No End in Sight’

Japanese Nuclear Expert (via translator):  “This situation is very serious … This accident probably exceeds [the 3 Mile Island accident] or Chernobyl accidents and there is no end is sight yet … we have to immediately make accurate information disclosure and, based on the information disclosed, we have to analyze the health hazard and then we have to brief that to the residents …”

Radiation in Seawater, Soil May Be Spreading in Japan

03/28/2011 Leave a comment

“Associated Press – Workers at Japan’s damaged nuclear plant raced to pump out contaminated water suspected of sending radioactivity levels soaring as officials warned Monday that radiation seeping from the complex was spreading to seawater and soil.

The coastal power plant, located 140 miles northeast of Tokyo, has been leaking radiation since a magnitude-9.0 quake on March 11 triggered a tsunami that engulfed the complex. The wave knocked out power to the system that cools the dangerously hot nuclear fuel rods.

The frantic effort to get temperatures down and avert a widening disaster has been slowed and complicated by fires, explosions, leaks and dangerous spikes in radiation. Two workers were burned after wading into highly radioactive water, officials said.

On Monday, workers resumed the laborious yet urgent task of pumping out the hundreds of tons of radioactive water inside several buildings at the six-unit plant. The water must be removed and safely stored before work can continue to power up the plant’s regular cooling system, nuclear safety officials said.

Contaminated water inside Unit 2 has tested at radiation levels some 100,000 times normal amounts, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said.”  Read more.

Yellow Rain Falls In Tokyo? Pollen Excuse Exact Same As Chernobyl Yellow Rain Lie

03/25/2011 Leave a comment

“While the Japanese government continues to say that the yellow rain seen in Japan was simply ‘pollen,’ many have been reminded of a very similar occurrence after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Almost on que, the Japan Meteorological Agency has confirmed the rain to be pollen after receiving hundreds of calls from concerned citizens.

The ‘’yellow rain’ seen Wednesday in the Kanto region surrounding Tokyo was caused by pollen, not radioactive materials as many residents had worried, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Thursday, reported the Japan Times.

That’s right, according to so called experts, enough pollen to cause hundreds to report their findings, rained down on Tokyo at the same time as a devastating nuclear disaster has released high levels of radiation at least 20km from the nuclear plant.

This explanation has reminded many of the yellow rain that hit after the Chernobyl disaster.

Similar to the explanation in Japan, government officials claimed that the yellow radioactive rain that fell in Gomel, Belarus was merely pollen and nothing to worry about. We now know that was a bold faced lie.

Women and children actually played in the puddles of yellow rain after the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl.” Read more at The Intel Hub.
