By Harriet Sherwood and David Smith, The Guardian – “Sudan has warned that it has the right to retaliate after accusing Israel of carrying out an air strike on an arms factory, causing a huge explosion that killed two people.

Ahmed Belal Osman, the Sudanese information minister, said that bombs from four aircraft struck a complex and triggered a blast that rocked the capital, Khartoum, before dawn on Wednesday.

‘Four planes coming from the east bombed the Yarmouk industrial complex,’ Belal told a press conference. ‘They used sophisticated technology … We believe that Israel is behind it.’

Belal recalled a 2009 attack on an arms convoy in the Red Sea province in eastern Sudan, resulting in scores of deaths, which his government also blamed on Israel.

‘We are now certain that this flagrant attack was authorised by the same state of Israel,’ he added. ‘The main purpose is to frustrate our military capabilities and stop any development there, and ultimately weaken our national sovereignty.

‘Sudan reserves the right to strike back at Israel.'” Read more.

Sudan Opposition: Bombed Arms Factory Belongs To Iran’s Revolutionary Guard – “Opposition sources in Sudan claim that the arms factory bombed overnight Tuesday in south Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, belongs to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard… Sudan’s Information Minister Ahmed Belal Osman claimed that four Israeli planes are responsible for the bombing of the Yarmouk Military Industrial Complex in southern Khartoum. ‘They came from the east,’ he said.” Read more.

By Nick McCarthy, Birmingham Mail – “Three Birmingham men masterminded a suicide bombing campaign involving eight simultaneous explosions in crowded places, a court has heard.

No target was set for the would-be rucksack bombers but they were allegedly recorded bragging about planning ‘another 9/11’.

Woolwich Crown Court heard that the ‘Jihadists’ had plotted to cause ‘as much carnage as they could in the name of Allah’.

The prosecution opened the case yesterday against Irfan Naseer, 31, Irfan Khalid and Ashik Ali, both 27, who deny all the terrorism charges.

The jury was told the unemployed men were secretly recorded by anti-terror cops saying the attack would be bigger than 7/7, which killed 52 people.

The three are charged with engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts between Christmas Day 2010 and September 19 2011.

Pharmaceutical graduate Naseer, from Doris Road, Sparkbrook, is charged with five different offences. He was awarded a degree from Aston University in 2003 and was known as ‘Big Irfan or Chubbs’.

Unemployed security guard Khalid, of Timbers Way, Sparkbrook, faces four counts under section five of the Terrorism Act.

Former charity worker Ashik Ali, aged 27, from White Street, Sparkbrook, faces three different offences.

Irfan Naseer and Irfan Khalid, are also alleged to have received terror training in tribal areas of Pakistan in 2009 and again in 2011, where they were said to have been schooled in the use of IEDs, firearms and poisons.

The two men are also accused of recruiting others for terrorism.

The three men are also all accused of trying to coordinate eight suicide bomb explosions in the UK and fundraising for terrorism.

In one secret recording where the men discussed the 7/7 attacks on London, Naseer allegedly said the bombers did not ’cause enough damage’ and should have used nails as shrapnel to kill more people.” Read more.

The Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted a Grad rocket over Ashkelon Wednesday afternoon, one of eight struck down since Tuesday night.

IAF strikes targeting Palestinian rocket-launching squads killed four Hamas operatives, but did little to stem the flow of rockets.

Hamas’s armed wing, the Al-Qassam brigades, took responsibility Wednesday for a barrage of rockets unleashed against Israel since Tuesday night as well as the bomb that critically injured an IDF officer along the Gaza-Israel border on Tuesday. The explosive was placed on a gate in the Kissufim region, near Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) also took responsibility for the Gaza border bomb.

In a statement posted on its website, Hamas said it fired the rockets, which it said were in response to Israeli air strikes from 7:00 till 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. It also said that on Tuesday it ‘detonated a roadside bomb near Israeli infantry soldiers east of Khan Yunis city.’

Of the projectiles fired by the terrorists, 22 landed in the Eshkol region while 21 landed in the Lachish region, according to the Israel Police. An additional 27 rockets landed in the South by Wednesday evening. The barrage followed 10 rockets fired on Tuesday evening, making a total of 80.
