Syria: Car Bomb Timed To Detonate In Christian Quarter Of Damascus As People Were Travelling To Church, 10 Killed
By Ruth Sherlock, The Telegraph – “A car bomb exploded outside a police station in the Old City of Damascus on Sunday, drawing the city’s historical Christian quarter into the civil war.
Up to 10 people were killed and 15 wounded as the charge detonated at the historical gate of Bab Touma, a busy pick up point for taxis and buses.
‘The bomb exploded as people were moving to go to Churches for Sunday mass. It exploded just outside the police station. There was a bus stop right beside it,’ said a resident calling himself George who works in a hotel just a few streets away from the explosion. ‘I felt the explosion. The ground beneath me shook and I can see black smoke rising from the area.
‘Terrorists are doing this,’ said George, a Christian who, like many residents in Bab Touma lives in fear of the rebel fighters trying to gain control of the capital.
Encircled by thick rock historic city walls, the narrow alleyways and wooden roofed Damascene homes of the Old City had thus far remained largely insulated from the fighting that has reached the capital in recent months…

Drinking alcohol (which actually has some health benefits in small quantities) resulted in this convert to Islam receiving a painful lashing from his ‘spiritual adviser.’ But he would have been praised for drinking camel urine …
Zakaryah Raad, 21, Tolga Cifci, 21, Wassim Fayad, 44, and Cengiz Coskun, 22, faced Burwood Local Court today charged with lashing Christian Martinez, 31, with an electric cable as punishment under sharia for drinking alcohol.
The four men have pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and stealing CCTV footage from Mr Martinez’s apartment in Silverwater, in Sydney’s west, in the early hours of July 17 last year.
The court heard Fayad, also known as Fadi Alemaddin, carried out the alleged whipping while the three other men held Mr Martinez down on his bed.
Fayad had become Mr Martinez’s ‘spiritual leader’ after he converted to Islam before the alleged incident, prosecutor Sevinch Morkaya said.
Mr Martinez called Fayad on the evening of the alleged event, saying he needed help after he had drunk alcohol, the court was told.
‘It means I’m going to tie you up, brother,’ Fayad allegedly replied.
The court heard the four men then went to Mr Martinez’s apartment and carried out the whipping, pausing twice to allow Mr Martinez to vomit.
After the 40 lashes were administered, Fayad told Mr Martinez: ‘I did it because I love you. Next time you think of picking up a drink, you will remember this pain’, Ms Morkaya said.
Ms Morkaya said the court hearing was not about the Islamic faith.
Instead, it was about the ‘imposing of their view of sharia law’, she said.

Twisted Appeasement: Barack Obama’s Foreign Policy Assumes America Is Not The Enemy Of Islamists, But Islamists Say Otherwise
By BARRY RUBIN, Jerusalem Post – “One of President Barack Obama’s main themes is to convince Middle East Islamists that America is not their enemy. But the reason this strategy never works is that the radicals know better. The United States is their enemy.
No amount of sympathy, empathy, economic aid, apology or appeasement will change this fact. Nor did such efforts succeed in making either Obama or the United States popular in such circles and the tens of millions of people influenced by them. The only thing surprising about all of this is that so few ‘experts’ and politicians seem to comprehend it.
There are a number of reasons why this is true, though many people mistakenly think they must find just one factor that explains this reality. The causes of this enmity include:
• American policies. True, the United States has supported Israel and also many Arab regimes over the years – including countries like Morocco, Tunisia, post- Gaddafi Libya, Egypt, pre-Hezbollah Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, post-Saddam Iraq and the United Arab Emirates. The Islamists are equally unhappy with the US support for the Palestinian Authority.
In short, US support for any non-radical regime makes radicals angry and will always do so.
So what if the United States is nice to radical or Islamist regimes? Will that help? No. The radicals still keep their goals – which include throwing US influence out of the region and overthrowing its allies – no matter what Washington tries to do to please them. In the context of their ideology, they interpret US concessions as signs of weakness which thus invite them to become even more militant and aggressive.
In Libya and Iraq, the governments have been pretty much directly installed by America. Thus, anyone who wants to overthrow those governments has a strong vested interest in hating and attacking Americans. The assassination of the ambassador to Libya wasn’t an accident or the result of a video but the inevitable and logical outcome of the political situation there.
As for Israel, giving that country less help would not change the radical view. Only if the United States had the same policy as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood might it be forgiven. Merely putting more space between the United States and Israel, to paraphrase Obama’s stated intention, won’t do it. Even brokering a comprehensive peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which isn’t going to happen of course, won’t help.
On the contrary, the radicals – especially Hamas, its Egyptian backers and Iran – would go into a frenzy of denunciation and attempt to destroy the arrangements, the failure of which would then be blamed on America. In the Middle East, peacemakers aren’t blessed, they’re assassinated.” Read more.
IPT: ‘Scores Of Known Radical Islamists Made Hundreds Of Visits To The Obama White House, Meeting With Top Administration Officials’
By Steve Emerson and John Rossomando, IPT – “A year-long investigation by the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) has found that scores of known radical Islamists made hundreds of visits to the Obama White House, meeting with top administration officials.
Court documents and other records have identified many of these visitors as belonging to groups serving as fronts for the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and other Islamic militant organizations.
The IPT made the discovery combing through millions of White House visitor log entries. IPT compared the visitors’ names with lists of known radical Islamists. Among the visitors were officials representing groups which have:
- Been designated by the Department of Justice as unindicted co-conspirators in terrorist trials; Extolled Islamic terrorist groups including Hamas and Hizballah;
- Obstructed terrorist investigations by instructing their followers not to cooperate with law enforcement;
- Promoted the incendiary conspiratorial allegation that the United States is engaged in a ‘war against Islam’— a leading tool in recruiting Muslims to carry out acts of terror;
- Repeatedly claimed that many of the Islamic terrorists convicted since 9-11 were framed by the U.S government as part of an anti-Muslim profiling campaign.
Individuals from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) visited the White House at least 20 times starting in 2009. In 2008, CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist money laundering case in U.S. history – the trial of the Holy Land Foundation in which five HLF officials were convicted of funneling money to Hamas.
U.S. District Court Judge Jorge Solis later ruled that, ‘The Government has produced ample evidence to establish the association’ of CAIR to Hamas, upholding their designations as unindicted co-conspirators. In 2008, the FBI formally ended all contact with CAIR because of its ties to Hamas.
In January 2004, Hussam Ayloush, executive director of CAIR’s Los Angeles office, publicly defended Palestinian terror attacks in comments before Muslim students at the University of California – Los Angeles, saying that terrorists were exercising their ‘legitimate right’ to defend themselves against Israeli occupation.
Ayloush, who was a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., casts the United States as controlled by Israeli interests. At a 2008 CAIR banquet in San Diego, he imagined ‘an America that respects and humanizes religion. It’s an America that is free to act on its values and not on the interests of any foreign lobby.’ In 2004, he said that the war on terror had become a ‘war on Muslims.’ Ayloush attended at least two White House meetings.

Nigeria: Islamic Militants Attack And Torch Churches, Hundreds Flee, Dozens Killed
By Paul Jongas and Stefan J. Bos – “At least hundreds of residents began fleeing northeastern Nigeria Sunday, October 21, after three days of Islamic attacks against churches and other targets left dozens dead.
Among the churches hit by suspected fighters of the militant Boko Haram group since Thursday, October 18, was an evangelical congregation in Nigeria’s troubled Borno State.
Reporters said gunmen of attacked the building of the Church of Brethren in Nigeria in Atagara village in the Gwoza area, killing at least two people.
The entire church was reportedly set ablaze as part of a wider campaign in the state that also involved killing a Chinese engineer and three colleagues.
CHURCH TORCHED
At least one church was also torched by militants in the northeastern city of Potiskum, where at least 31 people were killed in the last three days, including one or more policemen, according to refugees and reporters.
Most churches were closed Sunday, October 21, as worshipers kept away for fear of attack, residents said.
‘Christian residents stayed home for safety reasons,’ French news agency AFP quoted resident Bukar Kolo as saying. ‘A church was also burnt in the attack and people are afraid to go for Sunday church service for fear of possible attack,’ he said.
It was not immediately clear how many Christians were among the dead and injured in Potiskum, but witnesses said that besides the church many other properties had been burned.
HIGHER DEATH TOLL?
Residents said the toll could be higher than the reported 31 killed in Potiskum, as some relations had taken some bodies from the streets for burial.
Boko Haram, which means ‘Western Education is a Sin’ has been fighting for an Islamic state in especially central and northern Nigeria, where it has demanded that Christians leave the area.
The militant campaign and the military response are believed to have left more than 2,800 people dead since 2009.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, is divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.
The government has come under pressure to improve security, though soldiers were seen patrolling the streets of the crisis-hit areas.” Source – BosNewsLife.
Libya Grand Mufti: Remove References To Democracy And Religious Freedom From School Textbooks
But things that promote Islamic “values” must either remain or be included, such as hatred of Jews and Christians …
By Penny Starr, CNS News – “The Libya Herald reported on Thursday that the ‘Fatwa Office’ has asked the Ministry of Education in Libya to remove passages related to democracy and freedom of religion from school textbooks.
‘Libya’s Dar Al-Ifta’ (the Fatwa office), presided by Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadeq Al-Ghariani, has called on the Ministry of Education to remove passages relating to democracy and freedom of religion from school textbooks,’ the article states.
The article also reports that the religious official asked for ‘clarification’ as to why extracts of the Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah had been deleted. The Sunnah is the second book for Islam jurisprudence after the Quran, according to scholars.
The article cited reporting from LANA, the state-approved news outlet.
‘According to official news agency LANA, the Fatwa office issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the Grand Mufti had published an article entitled The Curriculum and the Instilling of Values in which he highlighted a number of criticisms of the new school syllabus textbooks for the current academic year,’ the report states.
‘The first was about the deletion of some of the Prophet’s Sunnah within the Islamic education syllabus, and the second addressed the two paragraphs included in the basic education textbooks about religious freedom and democracy,’ stated the Libya Herald.
‘The statement said, according to LANA, that the Ministry of Education had responded positively to the remarks made by the Grand Mufti and had promised to investigate the reasons behind the absence of the Sunnah texts from the Islamic education curriculum,’ said the newspaper.
The statement claimed the information in the textbooks about Greek democracy might be ‘too detailed’ for students to comprehend and that references to freedom of belief and religion should be removed because ‘it suggests to younger students that they could choose any religion they wanted,’ according to the article.

Egypt’s New Muslim Brotherhood ‘Freedom And Justice Party’ Leader Says Goal Is To ‘Institute Islamic Sharia Law’
JPost – “Saad al-Katatny elected head of Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, says goal is to ‘institute Islamic Sharia law.’
Saad al-Katatny was elected chairman of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, Egyptian media reported Friday. He beat out FJP’s acting leader Essam al- Erian in a vote that took place October 6.
The FJP is Egypt’s largest political party, currently occupying 47 percent of all seats in the country’s lower house of parliament.
Katatny hailed his election as ‘a first step’ towards achieving the goals of the FJP, according to Egypt’s Al-Ahram newspaper.
In this respect, Katatny was quoted as saying that ‘The Muslim Brotherhood established the [FJP] to represent the Brotherhood’s political project, which, in the end, will be a wise government that will institute Islamic Shari’a law.’…
Last week Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Muhammad Badie called on Muslims worldwide to liberate Jerusalem by means of jihad.
According to AFP, in his weekly message to supporters, Badie asserted that ‘The jihad for the recovery of Jerusalem is a duty for all Muslims,’ stressing that the city’s conquest ‘will not be done through negotiations or at the United Nations.’
The Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide previously vowed that if the Muslim Brotherhood ever rose to power in Egypt, it would work to sever relations with Israel. ‘We are certainly not happy with the illegitimate marriage between Cairo and Tel Aviv,’ he said.
‘Once we rise to power we will change many things in Egypt’s policy, starting with the country’s relations with Israel which have caused us great harm.'” Read more.

By Michael Weiss, Lebanon Now -“It has been amusing to see Rached Ghannouchi caught in a moment of pure honesty, forgetting the well-tended script he has had has to recite for months now before credulous Western audiences. What a relief it must be to let it all hang out. A secret video was leaked last week, probably recorded in February or March, showing the En-Nahda founder having an informal mentoring session with members of different Tunisian Islamic associations. He outlines his strategy for the slow consolidation of Islamist power, recounting the free advice he’s dispensed to En-Nahda’s supposed extremist rivals, the Salafists, here depicted as overzealous kindred who show a lot of potential. ‘Do not rush things. I tell the Salafist youth,’ he says. ‘We all went through the same and we suffered. Now you want to have a TV, radio, schools and invite the preachers. Why are you rushing things?’ The real threat to the country’s post-Ben Ali future, Ghannouchi explains, is the electoral victory of the secularists.
This should greatly impress the US State Department, which has hailed Tunisia’s ‘transition’ as a model for the Arab Spring, even as En-Nahda has introduced a blasphemy law into the Constituent Assembly and taken to describing women as ‘complementary’ to men in the draft constitution. The same ‘Salafist youth’ Ghannouchi advises have rallied at the Great Mosque of Kairouan in March chanting, ‘We are all the children of Osama,’ ‘The revolution was made for sharia’ and ‘Jews, Jews, the army of Mohammed is back.’ They have firebombed the home of the Tunisian exhibitor of Persopolis, the film based on Marjane Satrapi’s scathing memoir about growing up in Khomeinist Iran (one En-Nahda official described the film as ‘prostitution’).
… Ghannouchi has long been a hardline extremist, as Oren Kessler documented in a recent report about En-Nahda. He backed Saddam Hussein’s annexation of Kuwait in 1991 (‘joining together two Arab states out of twenty-two, praise be to God.’). As for the power that kicked Saddam out, Ghannouchi had this to say: ‘We must wage unceasing war against the Americans until they leave the land of Islam.’ He reassured the leaderships of Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad in Tehran in 1990 that ‘the greatest danger to civilization, religion and world peace is the United States. It is the Great Satan.’ He described the Oslo Accords as a ‘Jewish-American plan encompassing the entire region, which would cleanse it of all resistance and open it to Jewish economic and cultural activity, culminating in complete Jewish hegemony from Marrakesh to Kazakhstan.’ From his cushy state of exile in London, Ghannouchi issued a fatwa against secular Tunisian writer Lafif Lakhdar in 2005, accusing a 71-year-old man of authoring a book that was irreverent toward the Prophet Mohammed. (Lakhdar wrote no such book, though fears for his safety prompted Muslim human rights activists to initiate a Rushdie-style defense campaign on his behalf.)…
The self-satisfaction with which Ghannouchi and En-Nahda have been treated in the international press (‘moderate’ and ‘progressive’ are familiar bywords) is now being seriously challenged by events on the ground.” Read more.
Iowa: Thousands Of Bass Found Dead Along Shores Of Dickinson County Lakes May Have Been Killed By Disease
By Russ Mitchell – “Water temperatures are far warmer than usual for this time of year. Fish have had an extra long growing season and the arrival of yellow bass in the area a decade ago may have caused a population explosion in the Iowa Great Lakes.
Some, or all of those factors may be contributing to an unsettling scene along the shores of Dickinson County lakes this fall. Bass carcasses can be seen every few steps along the beach at Pikes Point State Park, which is on the northern shore of West Lake Okoboji. The die-off is affecting primarily East and West Lakes Okoboji and the lower chain of lakes.
‘It looks like a fairly significant fish kill,’ said Mike Hawkins of the Iowa DNR. ‘I wouldn’t say it’s minor. There’s thousands of fish being affected. I don’t have a real good handle on whether we’re still ongoing or if it’s finished up or curtailing. It’s kind of hard to tell, but we’re continuing to see dead fish on the shoreline.’
The fisheries biologist was first called out to the State Pier area near Arnolds Park Amusement Park on Sept. 4.
‘That’s where we could see some live fish, out away from shore — but they were acting sick,’ he said. ‘There were some dead fish on the shore.’
Hawkins then went to Brown’s Bay, on the south end of West Lake Okoboji.
‘By going down to Brown’s Bay, you’re looking at a different part of the lake,’ he said. ‘It’s pretty hard, in a lake that size, to put enough pollutant in to have an effect on fish. Seeing some dead fish down in Brown’s Bay is kind of an indicator that it is disease-related.’
Live bass samples have been sent to a wildlife service office in LaCrosse, Wis. Staff members at a fish health and disease center there will try to determine whether the bass disease is viral or bacterial.” Read more.
America Must Suspend Immigration From Muslim Majority Nations ‘For Our National Security … For Our Very Survival’

By Bryan Fischer, Renew America – “Andy McCarthy and others have strongly suggested that we must suspend the practice of allowing Muslims from Muslim-majority nations around the world to immigrate to the United States. I agree with them.
The reason is very simple: it’s necessary for our national security and indeed may be necessary for our very survival.
A case in point, as Robert Spencer points out in FrontPage magazine: Quazi Mohammad Rexwanul Ahsan Nafis, arrested this week for trying to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. He was here on a student visa from Bangladesh, which is about 90% Muslim.
This Muslim came to the United States not to study but to kill. His stated purpose: ‘I don’t want something that’s like, small. I just want something big. Something very big … that will shake the whole country, that will make America, not one step ahead, change of policy, and make one step ahead, for the Muslims … that will make us one step closer to run the whole world.’ In his own words, he wanted to ‘destroy America.’ And we invited him in!
Here’s the problem. Nobody who knew him could see this coming. In fact, they were all shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn that he was capable of such evil. Said his father: ‘He is very gentle and devoted to his studies.’
He’s far from the only one. Kifah Jayyousi was charged with ‘conspiring to kidnap, maim and murder’ on behalf of Islam in Bosnia, Kosovo and Chechnya. But the superintendent of Detroit Public Schools said he was ‘a great guy, one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.’
Even Americans who convert to Islam can fool you, which means we have enough problems with jihadism internally that it is foolish in the extreme to import more.” Read more.

Egypt: Female Reporter Of Liberal French News Channel Known For Defending Islam Is Savagely Attacked By Muslims

By JAMEY KEATEN – “PARIS — A correspondent for France 24 TV was ‘savagely attacked’ near Cairo’s Tahrir Square after being seized by a crowd, the network said Saturday. It was the latest case of violence against women at the epicenter of Egypt’s restive protests.
The news channel said in a statement that Sonia Dridi was attacked around 10:30 p.m. Friday after a live broadcast on a protest at the square and was later rescued by a colleague and other witnesses. France 24 did not give further details about the attack, but it said its employees were safe and sound, though ‘extremely shocked,’ and that it will file suit against unspecified assailants.
The network, which receives state funds but has editorial independence, said it and the French Embassy were working to bring Dridi back to France.
‘More frightened than hurt,’ wrote Dridi in French on her Twitter page Saturday. Referring in English to a colleague, she tweeted: ‘Thanks to (at)ashrafkhalil for protecting me in (hash)Tahrir last nite. Mob was pretty intense. thanks to him I escaped from the unleashed hands.’
Ashraf Khalil, who works with France 24’s English language service, said the crowd was closing in on him and Dridi while they were doing live reports on a side street off Tahrir. He said the attack and rescue took about half an hour, but it felt like a lot longer.
‘The crowd surged in and then it went crazy. It was basically me keeping her in a bear hug, both arms around her and face-to-face,’ he told The Associated Press, estimating that at least 30 men were involved. ‘It was hard to tell who was helping and who was groping her.’
Khalil said they retreated into a fast food restaurant with a metal door, to keep her out of the reach of the attackers. He said they hustled into a car, and some men banged on it as it sped away. Some of their belongings had been stolen, he said.” Read more.
Pakistan: Another Church Attacked In Karachi, Bibles Thrown, Offerings Stolen
By Rabia Ali, The Express Tribune – “KARACHI: A second church was attacked in Karachi on Thursday within a space of 10 days as armed men barged into its premises during a blackout, vandalised it and fled with alms offerings.
Since the beginning of the year, at least six churches in the city have been attacked, looted, fired upon or set ablaze. These churches are located in Christian slums surrounded by various ethnic communities.
The latest church to fall victim to the growing intolerance was the Philadelphia Pentecostal Church of Pakistan, situated in a congested lane of Karachi’s Essa Nagri locality.
On Thursday, armed men broke into the church during a power outage from a graveyard situated next to it, ‘The church was closed at that time. The men broke the windows, threw the Bibles on the floor and took away cash donations worth Rs40, 000,’ said Rev Cornelius, the pastor of the church.
This comes barely 10 days after the St Francis Church was attacked in the Old Haji Camp area by violent protesters demonstrating against electricity load-shedding.
