By Riyadh Mohammed, Mashable – “The Islamic State, the radical group which has cut a bloody path through Syria and Iraq in recent months, slaying civilians and security forces, and executing the American journalist James Foley on camera, has even more followers than previously believed, according to Iraqi security sources.

While western diplomats and other observers have estimated the number of militants number between 20,000 to 50,000, Hisham al-Hashimi, a security expert in Baghdad, said that the total membership of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria may now be closer to 100,000 members.

If true, the numbers suggest that the militant organization is growing by leaps and bounds as it conquers territory in the region.

According to Hashimi, a key event in terms of adding more people to its rank was the group’s capture of Mosul in June. The northern Iraqi city is a Sunni stronghold, home to many former officers in Saddam Hussein’s army who have opposed the Shiite-dominated government in Baghdad. And while some people were forced to enlist, others seem to have voluntarily taken up arms.

As a researcher who occasionally gives advice to the Iraqi security forces, Hashimi has had access to hundreds of memory drives recovered by Iraqi security forces at the home of the second-in-command of the Islamic state and other Iraqi intelligence as well as researchers on the ground in Iraq.

‘The Islamic State didn’t come from nowhere,’ said Hashimi who has been studying the group for years. ‘It is an extension of groups that existed before — historically and ideologically.’

Hashimi’s estimate was seconded by Ibrahim al-Sumaidaei, a political analyst, currently based in Amman, Jordan.

‘The Islamic State’s members have multiplied in a very dangerous way,’ said Sumaidaei, a former intelligence officer. ‘Having plenty of arms and funding has made the Islamic State swallow the fighters of the other Sunni insurgent groups.’ Sumaidaei added that many of the members may not be ‘active duty.’

In addition to foot soldiers, the Islamic State has also attracted a number of former high level army officers from Saddam Hussein’s Baathist regime, said Hashimi. (Many Baathists fought American troops after the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.)

‘Most of those who joined — and I know them personally — are either former army officers or their sons,’ said Salem Aljomaily, a security expert and a former intelligence officer. In terms of how the new recruits are organized, Aljomaily said that ‘the high ranking officers are the military planners, and their sons and the younger officers are being used as fighters.'” Read more.

By Dan Bloom, Mail Online – “Sickening footage appears to show Islamic State militants parading around 250 captured soldiers through the desert in their underwear before they are killed and their bodies piled on the bare earth.

An Islamic State fighter claimed the men were from the Syrian government’s Tabqa air base which extremists seized on Sunday, potentially handing them warplanes, tanks, artillery and ammunition.

The video, which has not been independently verified, is too graphic to be published in full.

It begins by showing dozens of men being marched through the desert wearing only their underwear. It then fades to black, resuming with a pile of bloodied bodies stacked on top of one another.

As the horrific footage progresses it pans slowly across a vast line of men who appear to be dead, and whose bodies have been laid out one by one.

The line forms a slow crescent across the desert, seemingly stretching to the horizon as militants stand beside it. Eventually, after more than a minute, the cameraman reaches the end of the line.

The precise death toll is uncertain and other sources put it at lower than 250, but at least 150 bodies are visible in the shaky video.

Its description on Youtube said it showed the execution of Army officers and Nusayri people, a significant minority of Shia Muslims in Syria.

A caption to another version of the video said: ‘The 250 shabeeha taken captive by the Islamic State from Tabqa in Raqqa have been executed.’ Shabeeha is the Islamist name for soldiers loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

An Islamic State fighter in Raqqa told Reuters: ‘Yes we have executed them all’.” Read more.

Aliana Tsarnaev, 23, of North Bergen, N.J., the sister of Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was charged with aggravated harassment.

The alleged victim, who lives in Harlem and has children with Tsarnaev’s boyfriend, told cops Tsarnaev called her Monday and made the threat as part of an ongoing feud, a police source told the Daily News.

‘I have people who can go up there and put a bomb on you,’ Tsarnaev allegedly told the victim, according to the source.

She was placed in custody at 2:30 p.m. after surrendering at the 30th Precinct stationhouse in Harlem, police said. The source said she was question, charged and given a desk appearance ticket.

The Tsarnaev brothers are accused of setting off two homemade bombs on April 15, 2013 near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killing three people, including an 8-year-old boy.

The explosives, made from pressure cookers, injured more than 260 people, including 16 who lost limbs.” Read more.

Because of Hamas, a significant portion of its tunnel network that took years to build were destroyed and its rocket arsenal severely depleted. Because of Hamas, tens of thousands of Palestinians are now homeless, and all of this resulted in no significant gains. Yet even now, they want to do it all over again in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The “prophet” of Islam may have frowned upon music, but he evidently loves a symphony of destruction …

Morning Star News – “A secret Christian of Somali ancestry is still in pain as he recovers from a Muslim extremist attack here that left him in a coma for five days.

Five Somali immigrant Muslims on Aug. 15 threw Mohammed Ali, a 30-year-old convert from Islam, from a fourth-story apartment building in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area, according to a friend.  Ali, who lives in another area and is receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, was helping the friend to move.

‘Mohammed left Eastleigh six years ago after escaping an attack,’ said his wife, whose name is undisclosed for security reasons. ‘I had been telling him to be careful of the Muslims at Eastleigh, as they are not happy with his conversion to Christianity.’

Ali and his wife have two daughters, 5 and 3.

Ali and the friend were waiting at the friend’s place in Eastleigh, which has a large population of Somali immigrants, for a vehicle to transport household items in the move. Told to wait until 5 p.m., at that hour they called the driver, who said he was held up in a traffic jam. They continued to wait.

At 9 p.m., they heard a knock on the door. Ali’s friend, whose name is undisclosed for security reasons, went to open it thinking the driver of the transport vehicle had arrived. As he opened the door, one of five men told him, ‘We are looking for Mohammed,’ the friend said.

Ali’s friend told them that it was late and that they should come back to see him early in the morning, but they pushed their way in, pulled Ali out of the room and threw him over a balcony from the fourth-floor apartment building.

His speech and memory impaired, Ali was able to speak with Morning Star News for no more than one minute.

‘I just found myself in the hospital bed,’ he said. ‘How I got into the hospital, I do not know.’

A doctor at the hospital said Ali’s bladder was injured. A deep wound to his stomach appeared to indicate he had been slashed with a knife.

Ali said someone may have set him up to be attacked. His wife and others said they believe he was deliberately made to wait at his friend’s place in order to provide a more isolated moment for the assailants to try to kill him.” Read more.

FOX News – “A new report from the West Point counterterrorism center challenges the notion that the Islamic State only recently became a major terror threat, describing the network’s gains in Iraq as a crisis four years in the making.

Meanwhile, Fox News has learned that top aides to President Obama expect the threat from the organization, also known as ISIS or ISIL, to outlast Obama’s time in office.

The details underscore the challenge facing the U.S. government and its allies as the president and military advisers weigh how — and where — to confront the Islamist militant forces.

‘ISIL did not suddenly become effective in early June 2014: it had been steadily strengthening and actively shaping the future operating environment for four years,’ the report from the West Point center said.

The report said that the ‘shattering’ of Iraq’s security forces in June is a ‘case-in-point, the result of years of patient preparatory operations.’

The report, obtained in advance by Fox News, was published by the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point, an independent, privately funded research group. It was written by Michael Knights, with The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

The report pointed to a long trail of warning signs, after leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ‘re-booted’ the organization in 2010. The report said it has developed a ‘highly-motivated cadre of light infantry forces’ since 2012, while launching major attacks like a wave of car bombs across multiple cities that lasted until the end of 2013.

Despite these warning signs, President Obama earlier this year compared ISIS and related groups to a ‘jayvee team’ during an interview with The New Yorker.

The White House has since defended those remarks, claiming the president was not referring only to the Islamic State. Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes also claimed earlier this month that the network indeed ‘has gained capacity in the last several months.’

Rhodes said the Islamic State poses ‘a greater threat today than they did six months ago.’

Time’s Up: ISIS Caliphate Tells Remaining Christians They Have One Week To Convert To Islam Or Die

World Watch Monitor documented the case of Mikha Qasha, an elderly and paralyzed Iraqi Christian. ISIS came to his home, WWM reports, and gave him the options of fleeing, converting or death. They gave him one week to think about it.

Fortunately, Qasha, along with his grandson, were able to go to a safe haven in the capital area of the Kurdistan region.

Many others are still at risk, however.

According to MCN Direct, others who fled from a district in Nineveh, and fromQaraqosh andBartella, said IS is now imposing a conversion deadline of one week for any non-Muslim. Qasha’s neighbour, a young man who fled the city this week, said he was hiding in his home with his father when IS members found them on August 17. They gave them a week, until August 24, to convert to Islam or be killed.70,000 Christians have arrived in Ankawa, the Christian neighbourhood in Erbil and some 60,000 displaced people are in Dohuk, said Louis Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq.

Dohuk, mainly inhabited by Kurds and Assyrians, is in the north in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan while Qaraqosh, a town of about 50,000 people in Nineveh Province, sits between Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, and Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish region, to the east.

The Islamic State took over Mosul in June. At the time there were 3,500 residing Christians who fled east to Qaraqosh, which is often referred to as the Christian capital of Iraq. Of the 3,500 about 25 people decided to stay home in Mosul. Since then nine have converted to Islam, while the others are paying jizya – the Islamic tax for non-Muslims.

The UN has launched a major aid operation: UNHCR said tents and other goods will be sent to Erbil via air, land and sea beginning Wednesday, August 20.

Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury described the slaughter of Christians and Yazidis as ‘off the scale of human horror.’

‘In a globalized world where even distant nations are our ‘neighbor,’ we cannot allow these atrocities to be unleashed with impunity,’ he continued. ‘The international community must document the human rights abuses in northern Iraq so that the perpetrators can later be prosecuted.'” Source – Town Hall.

As numerous scholars and historians will attest, by the time Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed in 70 AD the Roman Legions responsible for the destruction were dominated by eastern peoples from Syria, Egypt, Asia Minor (Turkey) and that general area. Even though they were considered Roman citizens, all those who “scattered [the Jews] among the nations” and divided up God’s land for gain according to Joel 3:2 were Middle Eastern. Today, they are Muslim nations.

Following the destruction of 70 AD, the Jewish people were dispersed and exiled into captivity again for over 1800 years. In 1948, however, God began restoring the nation of Israel after 2/3 of all Jews in Europe were killed during the Holocaust of WWII. But, as before, the very same peoples that surrounded the tiny new Jewish State of Israel wanted nothing more than to eradicate the Jews and divide the land for gain. Unfortunately for the surrounding nations, however, this time the Jews of Israel are not going anywhere. After God brought His people back to the land again the second time the Prophet Joel tells us that He would also then gather the surrounding nations for judgment “on account of My people, My heritage Israel” who would never again be uprooted and scattered. And no matter how hard the Islamic nations surrounding Israel today fight to “liberate” the land and eliminate the Jews, when God makes a promise, it’s a promise He intends to keep …

A Darker Iraq: Light Of Christian Faith Going Out Fast

Matthew 5:14, 16, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

The Iraqi pastor interviewed in this CBN report shares precisely the same sentiment I communicated earlier this month. Christians are the light of the world, but when forced to completely flee cities and towns and entire regions from the threat of the Beast, the only thing that remains is darkness. And like Sodom and Gomorrah, a kingdom full of darkness is a kingdom that will soon witness the full wrath of Almighty God …

Revelation 16:10-12, 16, “And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. Talk to anyone who has fled the Islamic State and they’ll share their story of tragedy and suffering.

One Christian CBN News spoke to said the terrorists seized all his gold and money, then threatened to cut off his hand.

This boy was traumatized when he witnessed Islamic State fighters armed with machine guns open fire on fleeing Christians near Mosul.

Tens of thousands of Iraqi Christians now live in tents, schools, and abandoned buildings. War weary and despondent, most now say they want to leave Iraq.

‘Go to America, Christians go to America. No, stay in Iraq!’ one refugee woman said of the enormous decision to leave the land of their ancestors.

When Islamic State fighters seized his city, this former police officer took his family, including his newborn daughter, to safety in Erbil.

‘If we return to our village, they will kill us,’ he said.

With passports in hand, these Iraqi Christians hope Congress will soon grant them immediate religious asylum status so they can live in the United States.

Ten families from this church, Ankawa Evangelical, have already left Iraq since the crisis began last June. That troubled Pastor Ghassan Yalda, who urged them to stay.

‘This is hurting a lot because the faith that we have is that the Christians are the salt of this land and the light of this land,’ he said.

‘If everybody leaves this country, who is going to be speaking the truth to the people who need it and who is going to be keeping this area from the wrath of the Lord because the sin is everywhere and people are killing each other?’ he asked.” Read more.

They will be rewarded, alright. In the end, all who love “Allah” and his “prophet” will receive the “blessed” reward of being in their presence for all eternity. Unfortunately for them, “Allah” and his “prophet” will be spending their eternity in the Lake of Fire …

Jihadi Cleric Justifies IS Beheadings: ‘Islam Is A Religion Of Beheading‘ MEMRI, August 26, 2014

In a recent article, jihadi cleric Hussein bin Mahmoud, a prominent writer on jihadi forums, expressed support for the beheading of American journalist James Foley by a member of the Islamic State (IS). Bin Mahmoud wrote that beheading was an effective way to terrorize the enemies of Islam, and stressed that, under Islamic law, Foley was a harbi, i.e. a non-Muslim whose life was not protected by an agreement of protection. He argued further that Islam allows and encourages such acts, since it is a religion of war and fighting.

The following are excerpts from the article, as posted August 21, 2014 on the Shumoukh Al-Islam forum.

“All Scholars… Agree On The Permissibility Of Killing A Harbi Infidel”

“I don’t know what to say. My mind is perplexed by words I have read and heard from people whom I do not know how to describe!! Millions of Muslims have been killed, tortured and driven from their homes; tens of thousands of Muslim women have had their honor violated and have been sexually abused by the Americans – yet people are weeping over a Christian American harbi infidel who entered the Islamic State, knowing full well what the Islamic State is, and without a pact [of protection]. Were the soldiers of the Islamic State supposed to pat this American harbi on the back and smile at him? All scholars, without exception, agree on the permissibility of killing a harbi infidel, and agree that his blood and property are fair game. Most of them [also] agree on the permissibility of killing him if he is taken prisoner. So where does this condemnation of the IS come from?… Let it be known to all people that when a harbi enters the land of Islam without a legal pact [of protection], his property, life and progeny are fair game.

“Many Muslims are influenced by the West’s false views and its repulsive ideas, which are exported to the Islamic nation in order to weaken it and change the perception of its youth so that [the youth] become cowardly and subdued and abandon the means of power and terror, and thus create a generation that does not know fighting or the cutting of necks. Recently we saw some who are considered scholars mixing things up and deceiving the nation, changing the concepts of Islamic law to fit the plans of the enemies. We don’t know if they did this out of ignorance about some of the tenets of Islamic law, or were [simply] lying…”
