By Missy Ryan and Susan Cornwell – “WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Intelligence on the rebel forces battling Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has shown “flickers” of al Qaeda or Hezbollah presence, but there is still no detailed picture of the emerging Libyan opposition, NATO’s top operations commander said on Tuesday.

‘We are examining very closely the content, composition, the personalities, who are the leaders of these opposition forces,’ Admiral James Stavridis, who is NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, and also the commander of U.S. European Command, said during testimony at the U.S. Senate.”  Read more.

Western Double Standards Over Libya Will Help Islamists

“By Ömer Taspinar, (CNN) — After the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, the West nervously waited for similar uprisings in the ‘Arab Street.’ Practically nothing changed in the Arab world in the last 30 years. Yet, since the beginning of 2011, events in the Middle East have been unfolding at a dizzying pace.

We are only in March, and already regimes in Tunisia and Egypt have been overthrown by the peoples’ demonstrations; the uprising in Libya has forced the international community to take military action against Muammar Gadhafi; Yemen is witnessing bloody chaos; Syria is showing signs of serious unrest and Saudi Arabia intervened in Bahrain to crush the opposition.

Welcome to a rapidly changing new Middle East.

So far, none of the peoples’ movements have been directed against the West. It was not ‘Western imperialism’ but a combination of domestic political repression, youth unemployment, heightened expectations and socio-economic deprivation that mobilized Arab masses.

Unfortunately, this positive dynamic may soon come to an end.”  Read more.

Iranian Video: The Time of the Islamic Messiah is Near — Israel Shall Be Destroyed

03/28/2011 1 comment

“By Erick Stakelbeck, CBN News Terrorism Analyst – New evidence has emerged that the Iranian government sees the current unrest in the Middle East as a signal that the Mahdi–or Islamic messiah–is about to appear.

CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video produced by the Iranian regime that says all the signs are moving into place — and that Iran will soon help usher in the end times.

While the revolutionary movements gripping the Middle East have created uncertainty throughout the region, the video shows that the Iranian regime believes the chaos is divine proof that their ultimate victory is at hand.

‘The Coming is Near’

The propaganda footage has reportedly been approved at the highest levels of the Iranian government.

It’s called The Coming is Near and it describes current events in the Middle East as a prelude to the arrival of the mythical tweflth Imam or Mahdi — the messiah figure who Islamic scriptures say will lead the armies of Islam to victory over all non-Muslims in the last days.”  Read more.

Claim: Al Qaeda Sets Up ‘Islamic Emirate’ in Eastern Libya

03/27/2011 Leave a comment

Daniel 11:43, “He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans and Nubians in submission.”

Al Qaeda says that they are practicing ‘true’ Islam as it is taught in the Qur’an.  Guess what the word “Islam” means?  Here is a hint.

“AL-QAEDA has set up an Islamic emirate in Derna, in eastern Libya, headed by a former US prisoner at Guantanamo Bay.

However, residents in the city have told reporters there is no substance to these rumours, which they claim the Libyan government is sowing to ‘scare Europe’.

‘Al-Qaeda has established an emirate in Derna led by Abdelkarim al-Hasadi, a former Guantanamo detainee,’ Khaled Khaim said.

‘They have an FM radio station and have begun to impose the burqa’ (head-to-toe covering for women) and have ‘executed people who refuse to cooperate with them.’

Khaim said Hasadi has a lieutenant, ‘also a member of Al-Qaeda and named Kheirallah Baraassi’ in Al-Baida.”  Read more.

Energized Muslim Brotherhood in Libya Eyes a Prize

“By Paul Cruickshank and Tim Lister (CNN) — Dr. Abdulmonem Hresha knows first hand how Moammar Gadhafi’s regime works…

The prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood now lives in London, and anticipates the group could become an important player in a post-Gadhafi environment.

As in Egypt and Tunisia, the Brotherhood in Libya has been energized by the sudden upheaval sweeping the Arab world.

It says it has no organizational links with the Brotherhood elsewhere, but shares the philosophy of the pan-Arab Islamist movement founded in Egypt in the 1920s…

Despite years of repression, Hresha claims the Brotherhood still has thousands of members scattered across Libya, with chapters in almost every single town, including Sirte, Gadhafi’s birthplace on the coast west of Tripoli.

In 2006, its leaders were released after reconciling with the Libyan regime. But now the Brotherhood is siding with the rebellion.”  Read more.

We go through Guillermo Felices’ shocks and detail each, looking into how each is transpiring and impacting the global economy.”  Read more.

Libyan Rebel Commander Admits His Fighters Have al-Qaeda Links

03/26/2011 1 comment

Can’t say I’m surprised.

“By Praveen Swami, Nick Squires and Duncan Gardham – In an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Mr al-Hasidi admitted that he had recruited ‘around 25’ men from the Derna area in eastern Libya to fight against coalition troops in Iraq. Some of them, he said, are ‘today are on the front lines in Adjabiya’.

Mr al-Hasidi insisted his fighters ‘are patriots and good Muslims, not terrorists,’ but added that the ‘members of al-Qaeda are also good Muslims and are fighting against the invader’.

His revelations came even as Idriss Deby Itno, Chad’s president, said al-Qaeda had managed to pillage military arsenals in the Libyan rebel zone and acquired arms, ‘including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries’.”  Read more.

YouTube Employing Extra Staff to Tackle al-Qaeda Hate Videos

By Emma Barnett, Digital Media Editor in San Francisco, “YouTube, the video- sharing site owned by Google, is employing additional people to help review content before and after it goes live, following a spate of al-Qaeda videos which it was forced to take down.

Eric Schmidt, the chief executive of Google, said that the company was ‘adding people to do reviews of videos’ as it is very hard algorithmically to monitor inappropriate comment. Talking to a small group of journalists at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, he went further and said that it was “impossible” to monitor 100 per cent of the content the site receives, which is why YouTube has to rely upon a mixture of algorithm-driven detection and its community to report inappropriate content.

The question whether YouTube needs to be more proactively edit the video-sharing site, to which 35 hours of content are uploaded to per minute, has come to the fore following the removal of several al-Qaeda videos which promoted violence.”  Read more.

Nearly One Million Ivorians Uprooted by Conflict: UNHCR

“By Stephany Nebehay – GENEVA (Reuters) – Up to one million Ivorians have now fled fighting in the main city Abidjan alone, with others uprooted across the country, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said on Friday as violence escalated in a 4-month power struggle.

Hours ahead of a U.N. Security Council debate, France announced it had submitted a draft U.N. resolution banning the use of heavy weapons in Abidjan. The United Nations has accused forces loyal to incumbent Laurent Gbagbo of such attacks, which his camp strenuously denies.

‘The massive displacement in Abidjan and elsewhere is being fuelled by fears of all-out war,’ UNHCR spokeswoman Melissa Fleming told a news briefing in Geneva.

‘Available estimates are that between 700,000 and one million could now be displaced,’ Fleming told reporters.”  Read more.

Who Dill Defend Christians in Egypt?

03/25/2011 Leave a comment

By GEOFFREY P. JOHNSTON – “… During last winter’s people power demonstrations in Tahrir Square, the epicentre of the democratic uprising, Christians and Muslims peacefully coexisted as they demanded the end of Mubarak’s 30 year dictatorial reign.

Since then, the promise of Christian-Muslim unity has given way to religiously-motivated attacks on Egypt’s large Coptic Christian community, which is estimated to have ten million members…

For decades, the Egyptian government has openly persecuted Christians. For example, says Bashir, the country’s security services have interfered in Coptic affairs, obstructing the basic maintenance of churches and blocking building permits for new churches.

Islamic terrorists are an even greater threat to Coptic Christians.

In the aftermath of the bloody New Year’s Day bombing of a Coptic church at Alexandria, Egypt, which killed 23 people, Canada’s Coptic community, which has itself been threatened with violence by al Qaida, publicly demanded that Egypt protect their co-religionists.

‘Unfortunately, the situation is quickly getting worse,’ says a Canadian Coptic activist, who cannot be identified in order to protect loved ones still living in Egypt.”  Read more.

By Dan de Luce “CAESAREA, Israel — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US Defence Secretary Robert Gates on Friday that Israel is ready to act with “great force” in response to a spate of rocket fire by Gaza militants and a deadly bus bombing in Jerusalem.

Israel had been ‘subjected to bouts of terror and rocket attacks,’ Netanyahu told reporters before going into a meeting with Gates.

‘We stand ready to act with great force and great determination to put a stop to it,’ he added, with police saying Israel had not been hit by any projectiles Friday morning.

Netanyahu said he had received a ‘very warm’ telephone call from US President Barack Obama on Thursday expressing his condolences after the latest flare-up in violence.

‘Any civilised society will not tolerate such wanton attacks on its civilians,’ he said.”  Read more.
