Is The Almighty Really Back? Jerusalem And God Vote Gets Booed At Dem Convention

09/05/2012 30 comments

Sounds like the “no” vote was slightly louder. This isn’t a good day for the Democratic Party. This is a sad one …

The Brody File, CBN – “This has become a disaster for the Democrats and a boon to the Romney campaign. The DNC has now added God back into their platform language after originally taking it out. They have also added language back in that says Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. When they tried to change the language on the convention floor, there were boos! Oy-gevalt.

Despite the corrections by the Democrats, the Romney campaign can now argue that the Democrats don’t know what they believe on two very important topics. They can also argue that the Democrats only did this because of the pushback. That’s true. The Brody File first pointed it out and the media followed, making this a story that the DNC wants to make go away. The problem is it’s not going away. Expect the Romney campaign to push this until Election Day. These last second changes really just make the issue worse and make the Democrat Party look bad.

In a way it’s unfortunate for the party because speakers at the DNC have been talking about God from the stage and there have been plenty of faith-filled events down here in Charlotte. But party officials should have known this would get scrutinized. The issue is either political malpractice or something far worse.

Here is video of the adoption of the new language. Listen to the boos.” Read more.

Record Number of Muslim Delegates Attending This Year’s DNC – “A record number of Muslim delegates are attending this year’s Democratic National Convention, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations. An estimated 100 Muslim delegates from 20 different states are in Charlotte, the group said in a press release, which pointed out that only a ‘handful’ of delegates attended the Republican National Convention last week in Tampa, ‘during which the RNC adopted a platform plank targeting the religious practices of Muslims,’ the group’s press release said. There were 43 Muslim and Arab-American delegates at the DNC in 2008 and 25 in 2004, according to CAIR.” Read more.

Massive Solar Flare Delivers Earth A Glancing Blow

Reuters: “The flare had been observed hovering inside the Sun’s atmosphere before it exploded on August 31st, sending a filament more than half a million miles into space at a speed of 900 miles per second. NASA says the charged particles ejected by the flare did not travel directly towards Earth, but did deliver Earth’s magnetosphere a glancing blow, producing aurora but no damage. Images of the flare were captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, the most advanced spacecraft ever designed to study the Sun. With four telescopes recording in different wavelengths, it transmits highly detailed images of the sun every ten seconds, seven days a week. This latest ejection is part of an 11-year cycle of activity which is expected to peak next year.” (Transcript)

Maldives: When Islam Rises, Paradise Is Lost

By Abbas Faiz – “To many, the Maldives are a paradise on earth. Tourists arrive in their droves – at least two for every Maldivian in the country – escaping to the islands’ unspoilt beaches and temperate waters. But a campaign of violent repression this year has shattered this idyllic image, exposing a human rights crisis that has gripped the country since President Mohamed Nasheed’s resignation in February.

The televised resignation of Mohamed Nasheed, the Maldives’ first democratically elected president, threw the country into deep political turmoil. Alarmed by this development, the international community began to get closely involved in efforts to resolve the political crisis. While these efforts were underway, the country plunged into a deep human rights crisis that threatened to derail it from its hard-earned gains of the recent past. It had held its first democratic elections as recently as 2008. The streets of the capital island Malé and a far away island city, Addu, became the scene of almost daily protests rallies by Nasheed supporters – which were quelled using unnecessary, excessive force by the police and military.

Earlier this year, I visited the Maldives, arriving less than two weeks after these events. The streets were calm, but I soon sensed the underlying tension and the fears of the people on both sides of the crisis who were afraid that things might get worse. I met with the former President, Mohamed Nasheed and I also met with the new President Dr Mohammed Waheed, the minister of home affairs, the minister of foreign affairs, the Speaker of the parliament, the chief justice, civil society activists, lawyers, journalists and many victims of human rights violations. While the authorities claimed they were committed to human rights protection, not a single person from the police or the army has to date been brought to account for the violations committed.” Read more.

Flashback: Maldives: New Law Will Imprison or Banish Anyone Who Preaches Any Religion Other Than Islam – “President’s Office has gazetted the controversial Religious Unity Regulation, declaring it an offence to preach a religion except Islam in the Maldives… The regulation, which instructs scholars to consider the social harmony, states practices that should be avoided in preaching Islam in the Maldives, including the practice of making comments in contradiction with prophetic traditions and majority view of the scholars… A person who violates the regulation will be sentenced to 2-5 years in prison, banishment or house arrest.” Read more.

The Christian Persecution Contagion: Is it Time To Be Afraid?

09/05/2012 3 comments

By Barry Secrest, Examiner – “The news, for Christians and the Protestant faith as a whole, is not exactly what we could call ‘good’ all over the world.

We are reading of mounting Christian persecutions, in addition to the oft considered acceptable persecution of the Jews, all over the world. China has been raiding church gatherings for quite some time now, while the Islamists are trying to gain a more powerful foothold in southern India, via our ally, Pakistan. Iran is in a holding pattern for the killing of a Christan priest, they of the Mahdi or Twelfth Imam prophesy.

In addition, what appears to be a concerted Muslim effort at Caliphate building, across a wide confederation of Islamic nations, now is also in the budding stages. The Egyptians’ new political power, fostered by the Muslim Brotherhood, has been operative in crucifying Christians all over Egypt, one directly in front of the President’s mansion, of all places…

Unfortunately, the contagion-like proliferation of such instances are just a few examples of what is an alarming trend, all across the world. The President and most politicos seem loathe to voice their alarm with the exception of a small group of Conservative Representatives in Congress who have even been attacked by members of their own party for voicing their concerns.

There may yet be a possibility that the Democratic Party could highlight these offences against the Freedom of Religion and help build awareness of what is happening as a sort of hallmark at the DNC Convention in Charlotte. And yet, we are all aware of the mandate against religious freedom as perpetrated by Obama against the Catholics, they who believe that artificial birth control is not what their Creator intended.

We can still, perhaps, hold out hope that the President and the DNC will come out in defence of both Christianity and Judaism before things degrade further. However, the likelihood of this seems ever more distant, when we noted that the Democrat sanctioned kick-off of their National Convention was convened as an Islamic “Jumah’ prayer session for over 20,000 Muslims in a Charlotte stadium.

All of this would seem to beg the seemingly impossible question for Christianity and other faiths in America, in 2012, for a nation which was built upon religious freedom and diversity:

Egypt: Kill A Christian, Collect A Reward

09/05/2012 2 comments

By Raymond Ibrahim, Gatestone Institute – “Recently an Egyptian Muslim posted a YouTube videotape of himself cursing Islam and its holy book, the Koran; then tearing it to pieces and throwing it in the garbage. Here are excerpts of what he said:

There it is, Allah’s book; this is the basic catastrophe. I don’t know what day it is of this disgusting month of Ramadan. You are making the tearing of the Quran such a big and dangerous thing… it is instinctive to tear up this book, those sons of [profanity] think they can threaten me and challenge me not to tear up the Quran, but I want to prove to them that they are nothing, and what is the big deal in tearing up this book?! There it is [he starts tearing the Quran] in the trash. Are you feeling better now? You cannot touch a hair on my head. We keep blaming Hamas and Gaza, but it is not them, it is this son of [profanity] book that I am stepping on right now. That book is the source of all evil and the real catastrophe. There is nothing new here; it is not Omar Abdel Rahman, Abbud or all the others: it is this garbage that is causing us to run in a demonic, never-ending circle that will never end.

This latest Koran desecration is a reminder of the new Egypt—not merely that there are everyday Egyptians who are sick of the Islamization of Egypt, but aghast at what is in store for them.

On a recent talk show on Al Hafiz channel dealing with this incident of Koran-tearing, after playing the video of the man tearing the Koran, one of the guests, a bearded and white-robed Dr. Mahmoud Sha’ban, visibly shaken by what he had just seen, said:

Someone like him must receive the punishment he deserves—and it is death! He is an apostate… It is clear from what he says that he is a Muslim, and must be killed as an apostate. As for that act itself, it is an infidel act, and he deserves to be struck by the sword in a public place—and as soon as possible; as soon as possible; as soon as possible. It must be announced and photographed and disseminated among the people, so that all the people may know that we respect our Koran and its words from Allah, and whoever insults it, receives his punishment from Allah. If people like him are left alone, they will only get bolder and bolder.

The next guest, Sheikh Abdul Mohsin said: ‘I support the words of Sheikh Mahmoud [who just spoke], that this man must be killed fast, that he may be an example to others, so that all learn that we have reached a new phase in respecting Islam and the holy sanctity of the Koran and Sunna. This man has become an apostate and must suffer the penalty in front of the people.’

The third and final guest Dr. Abdullah was somewhat critical of the first two Islamic scholars—not because they called for the man’s death, but because, by focusing on the fact that the man had apostatized, it seemed as if they were exonerating non-Muslims: ‘The issue of killing him is not limited to his being a Muslim and then apostatizing. No, it is known to us from the Sharia that whoever insults the Prophet or tears the Koran, his judgment is death—whether he’s a Muslim or non-Muslim.’ Read more…

‘Terrible’ 7.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Costa Rica, Strongest One In Decades

09/05/2012 Leave a comment

Reuters – “A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Costa Rica on Wednesday, rattling buildings, cutting power in areas of the capital and triggering a tsunami warning.

Residents of San Jose said phones went down, electricity poles rattled on the streets and water flowed out of pools during the quake, but the Red Cross said no casualties had been reported so far.

‘It was terrible. I was on the third floor, I had never felt anything like it,’ said Stephanie Gonzalez, a 25-year-old masters student in the capital.

The quake’s epicenter was in western Costa Rica about 87 miles from San Jose, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, and it was felt as far away as Managua, the capital of neighboring Nicaragua.

‘People are very frightened and staying in their homes,’ said Eliecer Gonzalez, commercial director of a local newspaper in the Guanacaste region on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. ‘We are very isolated and have no power.’

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Pacific coastlines of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. It had earlier warned of tsunamis for as far afield as Mexico and Peru.

It was the biggest earthquake in Costa Rica since a 7.6 quake in 1991 left 47 dead. More recently, 40 people died in a 6.1 magnitude quake in January 2009.” Source – Reuters.
