Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Officially Admitted to Elections, Calls Itself the ‘Justice and Freedom’ Party

06/08/2011 Leave a comment

“Cairo (AsiaNews) – The Electoral Commission has recognised the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood party, Justice and Freedom. For the first time in 60 years a political party linked to the Islamic movement is allowed take part in political life. Thanks to this acknowledgment, the Muslim Brotherhood will participate in the September elections, with a target of achieving over 50% of the vote, despite criticism and a poor performance in polls.

Founded on April 30, Justice and Freedom is one of four political parties founded by the Islamic movement after the jasmine revolution. AsiaNews sources point out that ‘the party is still the only political formation that is carrying out a real election campaign, with TV ads, posters, articles, ads on radio and in mosques.’ ‘The party – says the source – is gaining ground and a landslide victory is not to be excluded, even though polls show only 20% of the population in favour of the Muslim Brotherhood.’

The source believes that the moderate position taken by the Muslim Brotherhood is just an election ploy. They are using the party in order to present a ‘clean face’ …” Read more.

Revelation 13:16-17, “Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.”

Can’t buy or sell, not even food …

“Lahore: June 8, 2011. (PCP) ‘The Muslim dominated society of Pakistan forbids Christian to eat in any restaurant in Pakistan, a Christian student is forbidden to drink water in a glass in schools in which Muslim student drinks water, a roadside Vendor will beat you and charge you for cup in which you drink tea when he recognize you as Christian, it is Pakistan where Muslim members of National Assembly of Pakistan can block a move to offer prayers for slain Christian member of parliament, so, its not surprising if Muslim members of ruling party in Punjab Assembly are resisting on presentation of annual budget by a Christian Minister Michael Kamran on June 10, 2011’ said Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC, here today.

Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that hate among religious communities in Islamic Republic of Pakistan is created by Sharia legislation and Pakistan Assembly and Muslim parliamentarians are responsible for it weather they are moderate, liberal or Islamic.” Read more.

In Punjab, a Christian can’t present the provincial budget – “Several provincial legislators in Punjab belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have objected to Punjab cabinet member Kamran Michael presenting the budget on grounds that he is Christian, sources within the party told The Express Tribune.” Read more.

UK: Islamic Radicals Are in Schools, Government Report Says

By Duncan Gardham – “Its new counter-radicalisation strategy, Prevent, warned that some people who are supportive of terrorist groups and ideologies have ‘sought and sometimes gained positions in schools or in groups which work closely with young people.’

It said that new standards to be enforced by Ofsted should enable schools to take action against staff who demonstrate unacceptable views.

The Education Bill will also include a stronger focus on pupils’ ‘spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.’

The Prevent strategy quotes the example of Mohammed Sidique Khan, the leader of the July 7 bombers, who was a learning mentor at Hillside Primary School in Leeds.

Another example, not quoted, is that of Zahoor Iqbal, who was found guilty of helping a man planning to kidnap and execute a British soldier in Birmingham, and worked as an ‘achievement mentor’ at Saltley School in the city.” Read more.

The Day After: Website Run by Iran’s Republican Guard Speaks Openly About Testing Nuclear Warhead

06/08/2011 Leave a comment

By Julian Borger – “Any mention of an Iranian nuclear weapon is taboo in the Islamic Republic, which insists that its nuclear programme is entirely for peaceful, civil purposes. So it is remarkable, to say the least, that an article has appeared on the Gerdab website, run by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, anticipating the day after Iran’s first test of a nuclear warhead. Here is a translation of the text:

The day after Iran’s first nuclear test is a normal day.

The day after Islamic Republic of Iran’s first nuclear test will be an ordinary day for us Iranians but in the eyes of some of us there will be a new sparkle.

It’s a good day. It’s seven in the morning. The sun is not fully up yet but everywhere is bright. In the northern hemisphere many countries are beginning the day…

The day before, probably in central deserts of Iran, where once Americans and some other Western countries wanted to bury their nuclear waste, an underground nuclear explosion has taken place.” Read more.

Update June 23, 2011:  ‘Iranian nuke test’ debunked as blogger’s ‘hoax’ – “An Iranian blogger revealed on Tuesday that the controversial article published on a Revolutionary Guard website in April, describing a hypothetical nuclear experiment by the Islamic Republic, was nothing but a figment of his imagination. The essay caused an international stir as it was not inline with the official Iranian claim that its nuclear program is being developed for civilian purposes only.” Read more.

Iran Nuclear Head: Tehran to Triple Production of Higher Enriched Uranium, Use New Centrifuges

06/08/2011 Leave a comment

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran will soon install more advanced centrifuges at its new uranium enrichment site, the country’s nuclear chief said Wednesday, underscoring Tehran’s continued defiance in the face of international sanctions imposed over its controversial nuclear program.

Vice President Fereidoun Abbasi also announced that Iran plans to triple its output of the higher enriched uranium in 2011 and move the entire program to the new, secretly-built facility.

The uranium enrichment lies at the heart of Iran’s dispute with the West, which is concerned that the activity masks efforts to make nuclear weapons — a charge Tehran denies, insisting the work is peaceful and only meant to generate electricity.

Abbasi, who also heads Iran’s nuclear agency, said that Tehran would set up the more efficient centrifuges, suitable for higher-grade uranium enrichment, at the Fordo site near the holy city of Qom in central Iran.” Read more.

Evidence Mounting That Iran is Supplying Taliban with Weapons – “Evidence is mounting that Iran is supplying weapons to the Taliban – and that British and other foreign troops are dying in Afghanistan as a result. ‘Hypocritical, two-faced and highly dangerous.’ Strong words from British Foreign Office Minister, Alistair Burt, referring to Iran’s flouting of UN sanctions to sell arms to militant organisations like the Taliban.” Read more.

New Study Shows That 80% of Mosques in America Teach Jihad Violence and Islamic Supremacism

06/08/2011 3 comments

By Robert Spencer – “In 1998, Sheikh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani, a Sufi leader, visited 114 mosques in the United States. Then he gave testimony before a State Department Open Forum in January 1999, and asserted that 80% of American mosques taught the ‘extremist ideology.’

Then there was the Center for Religious Freedom’s 2005 study, and the Mapping Sharia Project’s 2008 study. Each independently showed that upwards of 80% of mosques in America were preaching hatred of Jews and Christians and the necessity ultimately to impose Islamic rule.

And now comes yet more confirmation that mosques in the U.S. are teaching these things, and again the percentage is remarkably similar: around 80% of mosques are found to be teaching jihad warfare and Islamic supremacism.

This study is extensive and detailed. Look over all the data. Above all, call upon your elected officials and the media to take notice — at very least, to ask pointed questions from local mosque leaders about the books they’re using and what they’re teaching in general. Call on them to require honest, verifiable answers.

It is likely, however, that this study, like the three preceding ones that I mentioned above, will be ignored. But don’t let that happen. Our freedoms depend on it.

‘Shari’a and Violence in American Mosques,’ by Mordechai Kedar and David Yerushalmi in Middle East Quarterly, Summer 2011:

Works by several respected jurists and scholars from the four major Sunni schools of jurisprudence, dating from the eighth to fourteenth centuries, are all in agreement that violent jihad against non-Muslims is a religious obligation.[19] Such behavior is normative, legally-sanctioned violence not confined to modern writers with a political axe to grind. Nor does its presence in classical Muslim works make it a relic of some medieval past. While Umdat as-Salik (Reliance of the Traveler) may have been compiled in the fourteenth century, al-Azhar University, perhaps the preeminent center of Sunni learning in the world, stated in its 1991 certification of the English translation that the book “conforms to the practice and faith of the orthodox Sunni community.”[20] While addressing a host of theological matters and detailed instructions as to how Muslims should order their daily routine to demonstrate piety and commitment to Islam, this certified, authoritative text spends eleven pages expounding on the applicability of jihad as violence directed against non-Muslims, stating for example:

The caliph … makes war upon Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians … provided he has first invited them to enter Islam in faith and practice, and if they will not, then invited them to enter the social order of Islam by paying the non-Muslim poll tax.[21]

The caliph fights all other peoples until they become Muslim … because they are not a people with a book, nor honored as such, and are not permitted to settle with paying the poll tax.[22]

The Fiqh as-Sunna and Tafsir Ibn Kathir are examples of works that were rated “moderate” for purposes of this survey. The former, which focuses primarily on the internal Muslim community, the family, and the individual believer and not on violent jihad, was especially moderate in its endorsement of violence. Relatively speaking, the Fiqh as-Sunna expresses a more restrained view of violent jihad, in that it does not explicitly call for a holy war against the West even though it understands the Western influence on Islamic governments as a force that is destructive to Islam itself.[23]

Nonetheless, such texts do express positive views toward the use of violence against “the other,” as expressed in the following:

Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet, upon whom be peace, said, “The ties of Islam and the principles of the religion are three, and whoever leaves one of them becomes an unbeliever, and his blood becomes lawful: testifying that there is no god except God, the obligatory prayers, and the fast of Ramadan.” … Another narration states, “If anyone leaves one of [the three principles], by God he becomes an unbeliever, and no voluntary deeds or recompense will be accepted from him, and his blood and wealth become lawful.” This is a clear indication that such a person is to be killed.[24]

Similarly in Tafsir Ibn Kathir:

Perform jihad against the disbelievers with the sword, and be harsh with the hypocrites with words, and this is the jihad performed against them.[25]

The survey’s findings, explored in depth below, were that 51 percent of mosques had texts that either advocated the use of violence in the pursuit of a Shari’a-based political order or advocated violent jihad as a duty that should be of paramount importance to a Muslim; 30 percent had only texts that were moderately supportive of violence like the Tafsir Ibn Kathir and Fiqh as-Sunna; 19 percent had no violent texts at all.

Be sure to read it all, and to keep it close at hand as a resource.” Read more.

Peculiar Earthquake Touches Southern Illinois

06/08/2011 Leave a comment

JACKSON COUNTY– Experts are studying an early morning earthquake that rattled some people awake in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. Some of you may have felt the tremor just after three o’clock Tuesday morning, it was a magnitude 4.2 earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was centered near Sullivan, Missouri, about fifty miles southwest of St. Louis. People felt the rumbling as far west as Columbia, Missouri, and as far east as Carbondale.

When SIU geology professor James Conder checked overnight readings from the university’s seismograph Tuesday morning, he was a little shocked.

‘I thought well, that’s rather interesting,’ he said.

The equipment in Carbondale registered activity from the 4 earthquake near Sullivan. What surprises him is that it happened nowhere near the New Madrid Fault line, the area’s most active fault.” Read more.

‘Wild and Weird’ Weather Leaving its Mark

06/08/2011 Leave a comment

By Doyle Rice and William M. Welch – “Monster tornadoes, historic floods, massive wildfires and widespread drought: Springtime has delivered a wallop of weather-related destruction and misery across much of the nation this year. And it may all be related.

Never mind the debate over global warming, its possible causes and effects. We’ve got ‘global weirding.’

That’s how climatologist Bill Patzert describes the wide range of deadly weather effects that have whipped the nation this year, killing hundreds of people and doing billions of dollars in damage to homes, businesses, schools and churches.

‘Sometimes it gets wild and weird,’ says Patzert, a research scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.” Read more.

Hundreds of Dead Penguins, Turtles, Dolphins and Albatrosses Wash Ashore in Uruguay

06/08/2011 Leave a comment

“MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay — Authorities in Uruguay say they have found about 600 dead penguins washed up on the Atlantic coast since Saturday. Experts are trying to determine what has killed the animals.

A navy statement Tuesday says the latest batch is 200 dead Magellan penguins discovered on the shore at La Paloma about 125 miles (200 kilometers) east of Montevideo.

A marine animal rescue group perviously reported that the carcasses of 400 Magellan penguins washed up around the resort town of Piriapolis along with dead turtles, dolphins and albatrosses. The resort is about halfway between Montevideo and La Paloma.

Experts say it is common for dead penguins to appear in the area at this time of year, but the extent of the die-off appears to be unusual.” Read more.
