Shot Across the Bow: House-Sized Asteroid to Give Earth a Close Shave on June 27, 2011

06/23/2011 Leave a comment

This one was only discovered five days before its fly-by.  Seems like it’s just a matter of time before one of these bullets hits this third rock …

Revelation 8:8, “Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood.”

By NANCY ATKINSON – “A newly discovered house-sized asteroid will miss the Earth by less than 17,700 km (11,000 miles) on Monday June 27, 2011. That’s about 23 times closer than the Moon. The size and location of the asteroid, named 2011 MD, should allow observers in certain locations to take a look at the space rock, even with small telescopes. It’s closest approach will be at 13:26 UTC on June 27.

According to Skymania, 2011 MD was found just yesterday, June 22, by LINEAR, a pair of robotic telescopes in New Mexico that scan the skies for Near Earth Asteroids.

As of now, asteroid 2011 MD is estimated to be between 9 to 45 meters (10 to 50 yards) wide. Dr. Emily Baldwin, of Astronomy Now magazine, said there is no danger of the asteroid hitting Earth, and even if it did enter the atmosphere, an asteroid this size would ‘mostly burn up in a brilliant fireball, possibly scattering a few meteorites.'” Read more.

Update June 28, 2011: Snapshots of Asteroid That Buzzed Earth – “Earth got a close shave Monday morning from an asteroid so small it was originally mistaken for space junk. The object, called 2011 MD, zipped 7,600 miles above Earth’s surface at about 1:15 p.m. EDT on June 27. It was discovered on June 22 by the LINEAR project, which hunts for objects that pass close to Earth using robotic telescopes in New Mexico.” Read more.

Auchtung Amerika: Hitler Would Be Proud as Jews Are Now Banned on Delta Air Lines Flights to Saudi Arabia

06/23/2011 3 comments

As word spread, Jews and Christians all across the Western world riot, torch vehicles, desecrate flags, burn Qur’ans and make death threa… oh wait…

Update 6/24/2011:  The USA Today news article has been grounded.  Looks like Delta Airlines isn’t enjoying the negative attention they’ve been receiving now that details of the deal have come to light.  Here is the full news article before it was confiscated, er, scrubbed:

By Paul Sancya, AP – “JERUSALEM — Jews and Israelis, or passengers carrying any non-Islamic article of faith, will not be able to fly Delta Airlines  flights from the U.S. to Saudi Arabia under Delta’s new partnership with Saudi Arabian Airlines.

‘Passengers carrying any non-Islamic article of faith will not be able to fly Delta airlines to Saudi Arabia under Delta’s new partnership with Saudi Arabian Airlines.

‘Although Delta announced in January that the Saudi airline would join its SkyTeam network next year, the implications of the deal only came to light recently, according to people who have scrutinized the details.

‘Saudi Arabia, which is governed by strict Islamic law, requires citizens of almost every country to obtain a visa. People who wish to enter the country must have a sponsor; women, who must be dressed according to Saudi standards of modesty, must be met at the Saudi airport by a man who will act as a chaperone.

‘Saudi Arabia bans anyone with an Israeli stamp in their passport from entering the country, even in transit. Many Jews believe the kingdom has also withheld visas from travelers with Jewish-sounding names.

Religious items such as Bibles that are not related to Islam may be confiscated at the airport.

Colby M. May, senior counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, a conservative legal group founded by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson, said his office is trying to determine if the agreement runs afoul of U.S. law.

‘The very idea that there is a common carrier airline service that would deny an American citizen in America access to their services because they are Jewish or have religious items such as a yarmulke, a cross or a priestly collar, is deeply disturbing,’ May said. Read more…

Obama Pulls Out of Afghanistan as Terror Increases, More Details of Gruesome Beheading of Afghan Christian Surfaces

Revelation 20:4, “And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”

“Afghans are warning of dire consequences for the country’s tiny Christian population should American forces leave Afghanistan, as President Barack Obama prepares to announce his plans for a troop drawdown in a televised address to the nation scheduled for Wednesday evening.

‘If U.S. troops are not in Afghanistan the Taliban will come to power,’ said Obaid S. Christ, an Afghan Christian exiled to India who spoke to me Tuesday…

… a more recent, gruesome incident makes clear that the danger for anyone turning from Islam in Afghanistan is not over.  A video released in recent weeks, and made available to WORLD this week by two separate Afghan sources, shows four Afghan militants beheading a man believed to be a Christian in Herat Province.

The militants, who claim to be Taliban, captured the victim, a man in his 40s named Abdul Latif (according to Obaid Christ, who provided translation of the video), earlier this year from his village outside Enjeel, a town south of Herat.

In the two-minute video, the men, wearing explosive belts (or suicide vests) and kaffiya head scarves to cover their faces, recite verses from the Quran while forcing Latif to the ground and pinning him with their feet. ‘You who are joined with pagans . . . your sentence [is] to be beheaded,’ read one of the militants in Farsi from what looked like a paper decree. ‘Whoever changes his religion should be executed.’ The passages refer to Sura 8:12 (‘I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks . . .’) and the hadiths, or sayings of Mohammed.” Read more.

Under Obama, U.S. Casualty Rate in Afghanistan Increased 5-Fold

Now you know one of the other reasons why Obama is in a hurry to get out of Afghanistan …

By Edwin Mora – “The average monthly casualty rate for U.S. military forces serving in Afghanistan has increased 5-fold since President Barack Obama was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009.

1,540 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since Oct. 7, 2001, when U.S. forces began fighting in that country to oust the Taliban regime that had been harboring al Qaeda and to track down and capture or kill al Qaeda terrorists.

During the Bush presidency, which ended on Jan. 20, 2009 with the inauguration of President Obama, U.S. troops were present in Afghanistan for 87.4 months and suffered 570 casualties—a rate of 6.5 deaths per month.

During the Obama presidency, through today, U.S. troops have been present in Afghanistan for 29.1 months and have suffered 970 casualties—a rate of 33.3 deaths per month.” Read more.

Ahmadinejad: Iran Not Afraid to Make Nuclear Weapon

06/23/2011 Leave a comment

On one hand the Iranians say they are not afraid to make a nuclear weapon, but on the other they say they don’t ‘intend’ to do so.  You say that now Mr. Ahmadinejad, but the actions of your country speak louder than your lying words.  And let me guess, after the first nuclear weapon is made your answer will then be to finish the rest of your sentence, “It wasn’t our intention … it was Allah’s” …

“TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s president says his country isn’t afraid of making a nuclear weapon but doesn’t intend to do so.

Iranian state television on Thursday quoted President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying: “If we do want to make a bomb, we are not afraid of anybody.”

Iran has long insisted that its nuclear programs are peaceful and meant only to generate power for a future nuclear reactor network.

But the U.N. Security Council has passed four sets of sanctions against Iran for refusing to freeze activities that could be used in a weapons program.”  Read more.

Watchdog Finds Evidence That Iran Worked on Nuclear Triggers – “The world’s global nuclear inspection agency, frustrated by Iran’s refusal to answer questions, revealed for the first time on Tuesday [May 24, 2011] that it possesses evidence that Tehran has conducted work on a highly sophisticated nuclear triggering technology that experts said could be used for only one purpose: setting off a nuclear weapon.” Read more.

‘A Victory for Freedom of Speech’: Dutch Populist Geert Wilders Acquitted of ‘Hate’ Speech

06/23/2011 2 comments

Finally, following the recommendation of the prosecution itself that Geert Wilders be found ‘Not Guilty’ on all counts, the judgment of the Dutch court falls in favor of common sense.  This is a victory for free speech, a victory for truth, and a blow to Islamists and their sympathizers who wish to muzzle the voice of honest public discourse and take advantage of our democratic freedoms in the promotion of their own ideologies, and at the expense of our own.  Though the war rages on, freedom has today won a battle …

By Gilbert Kreijger and Aaron Gray-Block – “(Reuters) – Dutch populist politician Geert Wilders was acquitted of inciting hatred of Muslims in a court ruling on Thursday that may strengthen his political influence and exacerbate tensions over immigration policy.

The case was seen by some as a test of free speech in a country which has a long tradition of tolerance and blunt talk, but where opposition to immigration, particularly from Muslim or predominantly Muslim countries, is on the rise.

Instantly recognizable by his mane of dyed blond hair, Wilders, 47, is one of the most outspoken critics of Islam and immigration in the Netherlands.

His Freedom Party is now the third-largest in parliament, a measure of support for its anti-immigrant stance, and is the minority government’s chief ally.” Read more.

Wilders: In Defense of ‘Hurtful’ Speech – “Yesterday was a beautiful day for freedom of speech in the Netherlands. An Amsterdam court acquitted me of all charges of hate speech after a legal ordeal that lasted almost two years. The Dutch people learned that political debate has not been stifled in their country. They learned they are still allowed to speak critically about Islam, and that resistance against Islamization is not a crime. I was brought to trial despite being an elected politician and the leader of the third-largest party in the Dutch parliament. I was not prosecuted for anything I did, but for what I said.” Read more.

Philippines: Fish Still Dying as Tons More Pulled Out of Taal Lake

06/23/2011 Leave a comment

“MANILA — Some 3.8 tons of dead milkfish (bangus) and tilapia have been recorded from 38 fish cages operated by 18 fish farmers in Barangay Leviste, Balakikong and Berinayan, all in Laurel, Batangas Thursday morning, the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported.

BFAR Director Asis Perez meanwhile expressed optimism that the reduction of fish mortality in Taal Lake would continue as a result of interventions undertaken by local government units, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Task Force Taal Lake.

On Wednesday, BFAR technical teams recorded low dissolved oxygen levels in Laurel, Agoncillo and San Nicolas ranging from 0.96 to 2.85 parts per million. The ideal level is 6.0 parts per million for the growing of bangus.” Read more.

Report: Hezbollah Preparing for War with Israel

06/23/2011 Leave a comment

“Lebanon’s Hezbollah is preparing for a possible war with Israel to relieve perceived Western pressure to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad, its guardian ally, sources close to the movement say.

The radical Shi’ite group is watching the unrest in neighboring Syria with alarm and is determined to prevent the West from exploiting popular protests to bring down Assad.

Hezbollah supported pro-democracy movements that toppled Western-backed leaders in Tunisia and Egypt, but officials say it will not stand idly by as international pressure mounts on Assad to yield to protesters.

It is committed to do whatever it takes politically to help deflect what it sees as a foreign campaign against Damascus, but it is also readying for a possible war with Israel if Assad is weakened.” Read more.

Iran actively helping Syria squash demonstrations– “A senior Israeli source says Iran is involved in the suppressing of the anti-regime demonstrations in Syria. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and the Al-Quds force, commanded by Gen. Qassem Suleimani, are operating throughout the country, the source says. The source told Haaretz there is clear information on Iran’s involvement in the crushing of the protests, as well as the participation of Hezbollah. Their role is not limited to shootings; Iran has also supplied equipment to the Syrian army, including sniper rifles and communications systems for disrupting the Internet in the country, the source said.” Read more.
