Death Seekers United: As Many As 6 Death-Loving Suicide Bombers and Gunmen Attack Hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan

Revelation 6:8, “Then I saw a pale green horse. Its rider was named Death, and Death’s Kingdom followed behind. They were given power over one fourth of the earth, and they could kill its people …” (CEV)

Haven’t they read their Qur’an lately?  Doesn’t it say there is ‘no compulsion in religion’ (Sura 2:256)?  Oh, that has been abrogated, too?

“In one of the most significant attacks in Afghanistan in the past few years, insurgents have hit a landmark Kabul hotel where Afghan officials had gathered for a conference with as many as 6 suicide bombers and gunmen, according to police.

At least one suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the Intercontinental Hotel, and the attack is still ongoing. At least four explosions have been heard and gunfire continues. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A police official says there are at least 3 attackers, but the number could be double that. An Afghan news agency is reporting that at least 10 people have died, but that figure has not been independently confirmed.

Afghan officials, including provincial governors, were staying at the Intercontinental because of a conference on transition that begins tomorrow. Afghan forces are scheduled to take charge of security in some areas of the country starting in July.

According to a State Dept. official, no American officials have been affected by the attack. It’s not yet known if any other Americans have been killed or injured.” Read more.

U.S., NATO Forces Join Gunbattles With Attackers Targeting Afghanistan Hotel – “The popular Intercontinental hotel in Kabul has come under attack by suicide bombers and gunmen Tuesday, a U.S. official told Fox News. U.S. forces have been called in to assist in ongoing gunbattles with assailants in the hotel, while NATO says its helicopters have already killed three of the attackers. Afghanistan news agency TOLOnews is reporting at least 10 people have been killed. That number has yet to be independently confirmed.” Read more.

Greece: Sliding Down the Slippery Slope of Economic Ruin, Bankruptcy and Anarchy

By Alexia KEFALAS – “Reuters – Greek police clashed with groups of hooded youths in central Athens on Tuesday at the start of two days of strikes and protests against cuts demanded by international lenders as the price for more financial aid.

As Greece teeters on the edge of bankruptcy, parliament is due to vote this week on a package of spending cuts, tax increases and privatisations agreed as part of a massive bailout aimed at averting the euro zone’s first default.

Labour unions have called a 48-hour strike to protest against the measures and more than 5,000 police were deployed to the centre of the capital to deal with expected trouble as a crowd officials estimated at some 20,000 rallied in Syntagma Square, in front of the parliament building.” Read more.

Why France’s Rescue Plan for Greece Won’t Work Either – “France’s new plan to rescue Greece and forestall the looming global financial crisis has one important thing in common with all the previous efforts: It won’t work. Hearing the clamor for a 21st century version of the “Brady Bonds,” which helped save Latin America in the late 1980s, France has proposed allowing Greece to stretch out the maturity of its debt to 30 years, presumably with a more manageable payment schedule. The idea is that it would give Greece time to work out its problems while assuring that the foreign banks holding the 340 billion euros of outstanding debt would still get paid. A few problems:” Read more.

If Greece defaults, many will get hurt – “Many people think this is just a problem for Greece or the Eurozone and really doesn’t matter to the rest of us. But is that really the case? If so, savers all over the world, including U.S. retirees, would likely be impacted… Any way you look at it, this is not just a little problem in Greece. It affects all of us and you need to understand the implications of it for your investments.” Read more.

Historic Drought Causes $3 Billion Loss in Texas

By Don Teague – “(CBS News) CRAWFORD, Texas – It looks like harvest time in Texas, but for fourth-generation farmer Bert Gohlke it’s actually a financial disaster.

‘It hurts, it hurts bad, it hurts real bad,’ Gohlke tells CBS News correspondent Don Teague.

This could have been a great year for Gohlke – corn prices are near record highs. But instead of harvesting his 1,500 acres of corn, Gohlke is chopping it up into a feed called silage – the only salvageable use for a crop destroyed by drought.

‘We should be dealing with 7-and-a-half foot corn right now,’ Gohlke says. But that’s not the case.

His potential losses? More than a quarter of a million dollars – but that’s just a fraction of the $3 billion the historic drought will cost Texas farmers and ranchers.

Two hundred and fifty miles south, Rosalee Coleman is hurting too. A 70-year-old widow, she’s running a cattle ranch on more than a thousand acres by herself.

‘Other than raising three wonderful children, I feel like my greatest achievement has been to hold on to this land,’ Coleman says.

She needs every acre. With no real rain in nine months, she’s been forced to move her cattle from pasture to pasture – just to find grass to sustain them.” Read more.

Taliban Issues Chilling Threats Against TEN Targets in UK, U.S. and France to Avenge Bin Laden

“The Taliban has issued a chilling threat to carry out a series of attacks against 10 targets in Britain, American and France to avenge the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

‘Soon you will see attacks against America and Nato countries, and our first priorities in Europe will be France and Britain,’ deputy Pakistani Taliban leader Wali-ur-Rehman said in a videotape aired on Al Arabiya over the weekend.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP), or Taliban Movement of Pakistan, which swears allegiance to Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, is blamed for many of the suicide bombings across the country and remains highly dangerous despite a series of army offensives against its strongholds in the north-west of the country, on the Afghan border.

It has not demonstrated an ability to stage sophisticated attacks in the West, however, and the TTP’s one apparent bid to inflict carnage in the U.S. failed.

The group claimed responsibility for the botched car bomb attack in New York’s Times Square last year.

But American intelligence agencies take it seriously. It was later added to the country’s list of foreign terrorist organisations.” Read more.

Report: Turkey Tells West it Might Launch Offensive Against Syria to Overthrow Assad Regime

“Turkish officials have told Western countries that Turkey might launch a military operation in Syria’s north to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported on Monday.

‘Turkey informed Britain, France, Italy, Germany and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) leadership of the possibility that it would launch an offensive in … Aleppo, Homs, Hama and Latakia,’ As-Seyassah daily quoted an unnamed British officials as saying, according to the Lebanese news website nowlebanon.com.

The report comes amid fears of undesired confrontation between the Turkish and Syrian armies along the border. About 12,000 Syrians have fled their homes in northern towns and have taken refuge on the Turkish side of the border. The Syrian army is reportedly reinforcing troops near the Turkish border to prevent further inflows of refugees towards Turkey. The Turkish military is also reportedly considering reinforcing border troops. Senior Turkish commanders have recently traveled to the border province of Hatay to inspect the border area.” Read more.

‘With Turkey Flexing its Muscles, We May Soon Face a Revived Ottoman Empire’ – “… And yet we need to look more closely at Erdogan. For there is good reason to suspect he dreams of transforming Turkey in ways Suleiman the Magnificent would have admired. In his early career as mayor of Istanbul, Erdogan was imprisoned for publicly reciting these lines by an early-20th-century Pan-Turkish poet: ‘The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets, and the faithful our soldiers.’ His ambition, it seems clear, is to return to the pre-Atatürk era, when Turkey was not only militantly Muslim but also a regional superpower. This explains his sustained campaign to alter the Turkish Constitution in ways that would likely increase his own power at the expense of the judiciary and the press as well as the military, all bastions of secularism.” Read more.

Downpour Leaves 18-Metre Sinkhole in Ontario Highway

By ZEV SINGER – “A section of Highway 148 near Luskville, Ont., is now a canyon 18 metres deep, a victim of Friday’s heavy rains.

Remarkably, the family living next to the giant gap owns a construction company with expertise in exactly the type of work that will be needed to fix the road.

Not only does James Nugent, of R.H. Nugent Construction, have 35 years of experience in the field, he has the heavy machinery parked only a few hundred meters from the caved-in road.

‘We were called in right off the bat,’ he said. ‘There’s nothing signed, but we probably will be proceeding with the work under an emergency situation. They want a company that can start right away.’

Nugent said the large pipe that ran under that stretch of the highway seems to have been blocked at the intake. The torrents of water late last week stressed the situation causing the pipe to buckle and the ground above the pipe became waterlogged and gave way.

Since the initial cave-in, the canyon has grown wider, with landslides from the edge happening several times. He said it will likely happen again and people should stay clear of the edge by 10 meters on either side.

‘It could let go any time,’ he said.” Read more.
