US: Hundreds Of Dead Fish In River Des Peres, Missouri
By Roche Madden – “ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)—Hundreds of dead fish are floating in the river Des Peres in South St. Louis. The state has investigated to determine if it was caused by man or nature.
Neighbors who live around the river told News 11 they first spotted the dead fish floating in the river on Wednesday. Hundreds of dead fish stretch for more than a half mile North of Gravois. MSD owns the section of the river. They say they hired crews to spray weed killer and they double checked today and say the crews did use a chemical that does not threaten wildlife. Conservation experts say when the rising Mississippi backs up into the river Des Peres the water can stagnate, lose the oxygen and the fish die, a disturbing sight to people who live nearby.
‘I think something’s wrong something disturbing because there shouldn’t be dead fish floating everywhere.’ said Kathy Shaver.” Read more.
Bali: Volcanic Lake Batur Suddenly Changes Color, Massive Fish Die Off Ensues
“A unusual natural phenomenon is causing concern for communities living around the edge of Bali’s Lake Batur at Kintamani.
On Sunday, June 19, 2011, the waters of the lake that sits in a volcanioc crater suddenly changed colors to a whitish-blue shade followed by the sudden death of thousands of fish (tilapia) living in the lake.
According to NusaBali, villagers for the lakeside community of Lintang Danu recount that the lake suddenly changed color on Sunday (June 19) morning in the areas surrounding the villages of Songan. Batur, Kedisan and Buahan. Shortly after the color change, thousands of freshwater fish floated to the surface and begin washing up on the lake’s shore. Fish farmed by villages in the shallows of the lake also died with the changing color of the lake.
Local fisherman, who traditionally plant local freshwater majiar fish (tilapia) in the lake, scrambled to the location to rescue fish in distress but still alive to place them in fresh water pools ashore.
The head of the Wildlife and Fisheries Service for the regency of Bangli, A.A. Ngurah Shamba, said his office was still surveying the situation and trying to understand the natural phenomenon that change the water color and caused the fish die-off. Samples of dead fish have been collected for laboratory analysis.” Read more.
Germany: Salafist Islamists Threat Growing, Interior Ministers Say
“German state interior ministers are warning of a rise in radical Salafist Islam that poses a risk of home-grown terrorism, with one politician calling for changes to residency laws so ‘hate preachers’ can be more easily deported.
Hesse Interior Minister Boris Rhein of the conservative Christian Democratic Union told daily Die Welt that Salafism was a ‘centre and pivot for those who want to participate in so-called holy war.’
‘Salafism can in this way lay the path to Islamist terrorism,’ he said, adding that the law needed to be changed so that ‘hate preachers’ can be more easily thrown out of the country.
‘In future, this should be possible when someone spreads material that goes against the liberal democratic basic order or that fosters radicalisation or, as the case may be, terrorism recruitment.
‘We should also change the corresponding laws covering the right to assembly and paragraphs of the sedition law.’
Interior ministers from Germany’s 16 federal states plan to discuss the issue when they hold a regular meeting on Tuesday. The Financial Times Deutschland reported Tuesday that the Verfassungsschutz domestic intelligence agencies would be intensifying their monitoring of the Salafist scene.
‘Salafism is seen both in Germany and on the international level as the dynamic Islamist movement at the moment,’ a Verfassungsschutz expert, who was not named, told the FTD.” Read more.
Peru: ‘Very Aggressive’ Dengue Strain Has Killed at Least 14 and Affected Thousands
“The Ministry of Health has declared a yellow alert for 60 days for the health centers in the departments of Loreto, Madre de Dios, San Martín and Amazonas, due to the persistence and extent of dengue fever.
According to the technical report, the prevalence of dengue may be due to climate factors, as well as difficulty in controlling the virus.
The General Bureau of National Defense, through the Regional Directorates of Health, will disseminate, monitor and evaluate the implementation of this resolution, Andina reports.
Dengue is transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti and among its symptoms are high fever and headaches, as well as muscle and bone aches. In some cases, when the disease is severe, there may be bruising and bleeding.
In February health authorities declared a red alert in Peru’s northern Amazon jungle region following the outbreak of an ‘very aggressive’ dengue strain that lead to the death of 14 people and affected thousands.” Read more.
‘I No Longer Trust Fox News … I Never Said That’: Fox News Expert Denies He Claimed Birth Certificate Was Legitimate
By Jerome R. Corsi – “NEW YORK – The computer graphics expert Fox News relied upon to claim the birth certificate the White House released April 27 was legitimate insists that the network must retract the story, claiming it deliberately misquoted him and continues to ignore his repeated requests.
Jean Claude Tremblay told WND that that none of his comments would permit the conclusion that the Obama birth certificate is an authentic document.
‘I no longer trust Fox News,’ he said, expressing anger verging on disdain for the way he feels the network treated him. ‘Despite my protests, Fox News will not allow me to correct their story.’
The controversy traces to a Web story by Fox News reporter Jana Winter two days after the White House released the birth certificate, titled ‘Expert: No Doubt Obama’s Birth Certificate is Legit.’
Noting that Obama doubters were claiming the birth certificate was a fake, Winter wrote, ‘But a leading software expert says there’s no doubt about its authenticity, and he dismisses claims of fraud as flat-out wrong.’
‘I never said that,’ Tremblay insists. ‘Winter called me and talked to me for about five minutes on the telephone, and she never said she was going to quote me. Then she misrepresented what I said.'” Read more.
Canadian Government, Companies, Universities All Refuse to Conduct Radiation Tests Despite Concerns
By Stephanie Stein – “In the June 2 edition of, The Beacon, it was discussed how the release of radiation from the Fukushima plant in Japan could potentially be poisoning Canadian soil, and possibly central Newfoundland. Evidence from various radiation monitors and news reports have shown that it has become a worldwide issue, and given that the airspace is shared, Canada and the U.S. have been directly affected as well…
Even though central Newfoundland is considered safe, reports by numerous media establishments have shown that radiation saturation has doubled recently. According to a CNN report, Arnie Gundersen, Chief Nuclear Engineer, said hot particles are showing up in North America. The radiation, he explained, emits a big cloud of gases, which can be measured with the Geiger counter. Nuclear engineers have also been finding hot particles or fuel fleas, which can cause cancer around the world. In Tokyo in April, measurements indicated that there are about 10 hot particles a day, which is a high level of concern in what a normal person would breathe. In Seattle, for instance, it went down to about five hot particles a day, which can lodge into lung tissue, the digestive tract or bone, and over time can cause cancer. As a safeguard, it has been strongly advised by Mr. Gundersen to wash all fruits and vegetables before consuming them.” Read more.
Fukushima is the greatest nuclear and environmental disaster in human history – “To give one an example of how lethal radiation is, one pound of plutonium evenly distributed into everyone’s lungs would kill every man, woman and child on Earth. There are literally ‘tons’ of radioactive plutonium (among other radioactive elements) that have been released into the air and ocean environments since March 11th. Another critical fact to remember is that radioactive plutonium, for example, remains lethal (killing life) for thousands years as it has a half-life of 24,000 years. Some other radioactive elements such as uranium have a half-life of 4.47 billion years.” Read more.
