Potentially Dangerous Coyote Tapeworm That Infects Dogs And Humans Is Spreading To Cities

The Canadian Press – “Animal health researchers are watching what appears to be mounting evidence of the spread of a potentially dangerous parasite in coyotes, foxes and other animals in Canada.

That’s a concern, they suggest, because the parasite, a tapeworm, can on occasion spill over from its wild animal hosts to infect dogs and humans.

And while people aren’t the tapeworm’s preferred hosts, a growing number of human cases are being seen in Europe and parts of the world where the parasite is more established…

The researchers are keen not to incite undue alarm. It would appear, they say, that the risk to Canadians is low. But they say the situation bears continued scrutiny, especially in light of the fact that urban sprawl in cities like Calgary is leading to closer contact between coyotes and domestic animals.

‘It seems like there is a real route for coyotes to bring this into the cities and into dog parks,’ says Emily Jenkins, a professor in the University of Saskatchewan’s department of veterinary microbiology and school of public health.

‘I think there’s a need for a risk assessment. And I think there’s a need for enhanced surveillance — if only to get baselines to say, ‘Oh, yeah, this is the prevalence now’ and ‘Oh, look, it’s not changing’ or ‘Oh, look, it is.’

‘But getting that on the radar of a particular public or animal health agency is challenging.’

The parasite is called Echinococcus multilocularis. Scientists sometimes call it E. multi for short. When it infects people, the parasite causes a condition called alveolar echinococcosis, with tumour-like cysts forming in the liver, lungs or sometimes the brain.

A study published in 2010 in the journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases estimated that about 18,200 human cases occur globally every year, with 90 per cent of them recorded in China…

But the range of the parasite — which is a Northern Hemisphere phenomenon — is expanding.” Read more.

US Drought Now Officially Among The Worst In American History May Intensify In The Months Ahead

By Doyle Rice, USA TODAY – “The drought scorching the nation has reached a level surpassed only twice before in recorded weather history.

The National Climatic Data Center reported this week that 57.2% of the contiguous USA is ‘moderately to extremely dry,’ a percentage topped only during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s and during another drought in the mid-1950s.

We’ve got a long way to go to reach the Dust Bowl, though: At one point, in July 1934, a phenomenal 79.9% of the country was moderately or extremely dry.

Recent rainfall came too late to help the withered U.S. corn crop already being harvested in many parts of the country, but it kept the strongest drought in decades from worsening in several key Midwest and Plains states.

The U.S. is the world’s leading producer of corn, wheat and soybeans, and the drought raised widespread concern about higher food prices.

Unfortunately, the Climate Prediction Center’s U.S. drought outlook issued last week points to drought conditions lingering or intensifying over most of the nation in the months ahead.” Source – USA Today.

By GREG TEPPER, The Times of Israel – “Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri on Thursday released an audio recording hailing the ‘blessed’ September 11 terror attacks as ‘the greatest blow’ America had ever suffered. He also asserted an Islamic duty to ‘liberate’ every inch of Muslim lands, and called upon Muslims to ‘purify’ their countries of corrupt leaders during what he termed a period of ‘American weakness.’

Muslims should ‘topple the western proxies’ left in their countries ‘and especially the Saud clan and the gulf sheiks in the Arabian peninsula,’ he declared.

Al-Zawahiri also urged Muslims to capture citizens of countries that fight Muslims in order to hold them as hostages and force the release of Muslim prisoners.

In comments translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), al-Zawahiri commemorated the ‘blessed raids’ in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. He also noted ‘defeats’ suffered by the United States in recent years in Afghanistan, Iraq and through the demise of ‘four of its collaborators in the Arab world’ – references to the fall of leaders during the Arab Spring.

Al-Zawahiri said the 9/11 attacks were launched due to the ‘Zionist-crusader occupation of Muslim lands, and especially of Palestine.’ The attacks were carried out ‘to confront the modern crusader campaign, which aims to make us disintegrate, so it could more easily devour us, one piece after another.’

‘One cannot rely on the governments in the liberation of Palestine and the defense of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, because these governments are incapable of doing so, and in so many cases, they assist Israel in its aggression,’ he said.

He also said the Islamic nation is capable of defeating the ‘Zionist-Crusader enterprise…in the heart of the Islamic world and especially in occupied Palestine, like it defeated this enterprise…in Iraq and Afghanistan, and like it managed to deliver the greatest blow in the history of America, on its own land, changing American history and destroying its economy.’

He said there was a need to establish an Islamic state that will follow a ‘godly path’ and that will renounce secularism and democracy, which believes in brotherhood among Muslims and in the unity of Muslim lands, doing away with borders that were created by colonial powers. This state will consider its duty the ‘liberation’ of ‘every inch of Muslim land, from the Caucuses to Zanzibar, from Afghanistan and Kashmir to East Timor and the Philippines, and from east Turkestan to Andalusia.’ That state will believe that the ‘liberation of Palestine’ is a duty incumbent upon all Muslims…” Read more.

The Emerging ‘Osama Spring’ Must Become The Autumn Of Obama

By Joel Richardson – “While some still refer to the revolution that swept through the Middle East as the ‘Arab Spring,’ many others, particularly Muslims throughout the Middle East, refer to it more properly as the ‘Islamic Awakening.’ As history will forever testify, President Barack Obama’s role in the unfolding of the Islamic Awakening was to support or assist in the overthrow of two leaders (so far), resulting in two new Islamist governments in Egypt and Libya. Allāhu Akbar!

And now history will also testify that it was precisely these two nations that used the anniversary of 9/11 to thank President Obama and the American people by attacking two U.S. embassies, violating and burning the American flag, replacing it with the black flag of the Islamic caliphate, and murdering U.S. diplomats, all the while shouting the taunting slogan: ‘Obama, we are all Osama!’ How ungrateful are these people, anyway? Surely, Obama hasn’t explained himself to these people thoroughly enough. Perhaps, if he is given four more years, the Islamists will finally come to understand his good intentions.

And where was the Egyptian military as the ‘protesters’ were desecrating the American flag and penetrating the embassy walls? One would think that perhaps a small portion of the $1.3 billion in aid the United States gives to Egypt annually might be used to help safeguard our embassy. Well, such may have been the case in the age of Bush and Mubarak, but no more. ‘Change has come’ to Egypt, and as Obama jubilantly declared on the day Mubarak was ousted, ‘The people of Egypt have spoken. Their voices have been heard. And Egypt will never be the same … but this is not the end of Egypt’s transition. It’s the beginning.’ This is no longer the age of Bush and Mubarak; this is the age of Mursi and Obama. Takbir!

Her seemingly endless world tour has prioritized symbolism and pageantry over substance. So too has the administration of her boss, Barack Obama, and the costs are now becoming clear.

This explains why Obama’s chief diplomat said of the Libya attack: ‘I asked myself—how could this happen? How could this happen in a country we helped liberate, in a city we helped save from destruction?’

Madam secretary, it is time for you and your boss to wake up and smell the global jihad.

There are people in this world—and not a small number of them—who share the vision bin Laden had and have the will and means to act. No amount of apologizing for America, embracing our adversaries or mistreating our allies will change that.

It is worth recalling that Cairo, the city where a mob entered the US embassy compound and burned an American flag, was the epicenter of what critics call Obama’s ‘apology tour.’ It was there that he apologized for critical steps American officials took in the Middle East to defend against the Soviets eight years before Obama was born. It was there that he criticized his own nation’s response to 9/11.

That was the reason US diplomats in Cairo instinctively put out an apologetic condemnation of those who ‘hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.’ They were simply channeling the Obama view of the world.

Hillary also said that the attack was the result of a ‘small and savage group.’

Wrong again.

Viewed correctly, the attack was perpetrated by a very large group. Terrorism as we have known it since 9/11 is but the violent vanguard of the Islamist political ideology. This ideology unifies diverse terrorists from Jemmah Islamiyah in Indonesia to Al-Shabaab in Somalia to Boko Haram in Nigeria to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to the Haqqani network in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

While the groups are diverse and at times antagonistic toward each other, their hatred of America unites them, and they work toward a generally common goal.” Read more.

Black Flag Of Islam Flies Over American Embassy In Tunisia As Attacks On America Continue Around The Globe

The Cleveland Leader – “A black Islamic flag is currently flying over the U.S. embassy in Tunisia after it had been stormed by an angry mob of protesters, who were upset over an anti-Islam film that was made by Americans.

This is just one of many incidents occurring around the world today, in which Americans are being targeted.

In Tunis, the mob overran the compound, scaling walls and setting fire to trees before tearing down the American flag and replacing it with a symbol of Islam. It is not thought that any U.S. staff were actually in the embassy in Tunis. An American school in Tunis was also set on fire. Police responded to the mobs by firing tear gas, and police gunfire could also be heard.

Several dozen protesters were also briefly able to enter the embassy compound and set fire to cars in the embassy parking lot. Police and special forces pushed them back outside.

In Lebanon today angry protesters ransacked a KFC and Hardee’s restaurant, police were firing on protesters in Yemen, and there was also unrest in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Turkey. Additional unrest occurred in Sudan where an angry mob attacked British and German embassies. In Bangladesh tens of thousands took to the streets to protest, and in India there are widespread protests in Muslim Kashmir. Protesters Set Fire to U.S. School in Tunis – “(Reuters) – Protesters set fire to the American School in the Tunisian capital on Friday, after hundreds of people incensed by a U.S.-made film that demeans Prophet Mohammad invaded the U.S. embassy compound and clashed with riot police, a Reuters reporter said. The school was closed on Friday. Protesters had earlier set fire to trees in the U.S. embassy compound. “(U.S. President Barack) Obama, Obama, we are all Osamas,” the protesters chanted, in reference to the slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.” Source – Reuters.

US State Department Goes Into Full-Blown Crisis Mode, Sets Up 24-Hour Monitoring Team, Britain Poised To Evacuate Mideast Diplomats

By Josh Rogin, Foreign Policy – ” The State Department has gone into full-blown crisis mode, organizing a round-the-clock effort to coordinate the U.S. government’s response to the expanding attacks on U.S. embassies in the Middle East and North Africa.

‘The State Department has stood up a 24-hr monitoring team to insure appropriate coordination of information and our response. In addition, our consular team is working with missions around the world to protect American citizens and issue appropriate public warden information,’ a senior State Department official told reporters Friday afternoon.

‘We have been monitoring events in the Middle East and North Africa intensively today, and working with our personnel and missions overseas and host governments to strengthen security in all locations and to respond effectively where protests have turned violent,’ the official said.

The official noted that U.S. embassies in Libya and Yemen have been reinforced with Marine FAST teams and noted that other unspecified measures are being taken to strengthen embassy security around the region. The State Department is working with the governments in Tunisia and Sudan to increase security at the U.S. embassies there as well, the official said.

The U.S. Embassy in Tunis was breached by rioters who replaced the American flag with the black banner of al Qaeda.” Read more.

“TRIPOLI, Lebanon (Reuters) – One demonstrator was killed and two others were wounded in clashes with security forces in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Friday in protests over a film insulting the Muslim Prophet Mohammad and against the pope’s visit to Lebanon.

A security source said the man was killed as protesters tried to storm a government building. Earlier, a U.S. fast food restaurant was set alight. Twelve members of the security forces were wounded by stones thrown by protesters, the source said.

The U.S.-made film has sparked violent protests in Libya, where the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed, and in Egypt, Yemen and Sudan and there are fears the demonstrations could spread to other Muslim countries.” Read more.

FBI Warns Of Violence In America Over Anti-Islamic Movie

By PIERRE THOMAS, RICHARD ESPOSITO, DANA HUGHES and KEVIN DOLAK – “A U.S. intelligence bulletin warned today that the violent outrage aimed at U.S. embassies spawned by a movie mocking the Prophet Mohammed could be spread to America by extremist groups eager to ‘exploit anger.’

The Joint Intelligence Bulletin issued by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said ‘the risk of violence could increase both at home and abroad as the film continues to gain attention.’

‘First responders should remain aware of the potential for spontaneous large crowds and protests that could overwhelm resources and should be vigilant for possible efforts to encourage peaceful protesters to commit acts of violence,’ the warning said.

It urged ‘faith-based organizations to promptly report suspicious activities that could indicate pre-operational plotting against Jewish, Coptic, Islamic, or any other faith-based communities.’

It added, however, that there was no information regarding any specific threats.

The bulletin warned that ‘violent extremist groups in the United States could exploit anger over the film to advance their recruitment efforts.'” Read more.

Telephone Terrorism: ‘Al-Qaeda’ Bomb Threats Evacuate University Of Texas And North Dakota State University Campuses

By JIM VERTUNO, Associated Press – ” AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Thousands of people streamed off university campuses in Texas and North Dakota on Friday after phoned-in bomb threats prompted evacuations and officials warned students and faculty to get away as quickly as possible. No bombs had been found on either campus by late morning and it was not clear whether the threats were related.

The University of Texas issued received a call about 8:35 a.m. from a man claiming to be with al-Qaida who said he had placed bombs all over the 50,000-student Austin campus, according to University of Texas spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon. He claimed the bombs would go off in 90 minutes and all buildings were evacuated at 9:50 a.m. as a precaution, Weldon said.

The deadline passed without incident, and the university issued another advisory saying all buildings had been cleared. It left open the possibility that classes could resume later Friday.

North Dakota State University President Dean Bresciani said 20,000 people also were evacuated from his school’s main and downtown campuses in Fargo after the school received its bomb threat Friday morning. Officials did not immediately release details about the North Dakota threat.

In Texas, sirens wailed on campus and cellphones pinged with text messages as the alert when out. Students described more confusion than panic as they began to exit the sprawling campus in what one described as an ‘orderly but tense’ manner. Students said they were directed off campus by university staff.

Nuclear Reactor Facility Evacuated In Austin After ‘Al-Qaeda’ Bomb Threat – “A research facility at the University of Texas in Austin that houses an active nuclear reactor has been evacuated after a man with a middle eastern accent claiming to be a member of Al-Qaeda warned authorities the campus had been booby-trapped with explosives… A campus-wide email has been sent to all students, according to the Dallas News. ‘Evacuation due to threats on campus immediately evacuate all buildings get as far away from the buildings as possible. The Battle Of Gog Of Magog & The Return Of Jesus

By Joel Richardson – “The Book of Revelation, chapter 19, contains what is perhaps the most famous Biblical passage concerning the return of Jesus. There, Jesus the Messiah is seen to burst forth from heaven, riding on a white horse with the armies of heaven following Him. But as powerful and well known as this prophetic portrayal of the return of Jesus is, few are aware of the fact that the prophecy of Ezekiel 38 and 39, most often known as the Battle of Gog of Magog, also concludes with the return of Jesus. In fact, it can be said that Ezekiel 38 and 39 is in fact, the Armageddon of the Old Testament.

Although many popular interpreters have wrongly understood this passage to conclude several years before the return of Jesus, any honest assessment of the text simply does not allow for this. But among the many reasons to reject a pre-Day of the LORD conclusion of this prophecy, one of the simplest, is because it concludes with the LORD actually physically present in the land of Israel.

That’s right, Ezekiel reveals that at the conclusion of Gog’s invasion, Jesus the Messiah is physically present on the ground, in the land. Consider the following passage:

“For in my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, on that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, shall quake at my presence” —Ezekiel 38:19–20

According to this text, the Lord Himself says that throughout the earth, both people and animals will ‘quake at [His] presence.’ The word used for presence here is the Hebrew word paneh. Paneh is a reference to the actual face of someone or something. When God says that the people of the earth will quake at His paneh, He is saying that they will be terrified because of His actual physical presence, on the ground, in the land of Israel (see also: Zechariah 14:2-5, Isaiah 29:2-8, Revelation 16:16-20).

Concerning the word paneh, The New Unger’s Bible Dictionary says, ‘The presence (face) of Jehovah is Jehovah in his own personal presence.’ The New International Encyclopedia of Bible Words says, ‘In the OT, being in God’s or another’s presence is indicated by a preposition (l) prefixed to the Hebrew word panim (‘face’). The thought is to be ‘before the face of the person.’ Paneh is used throughout the Old Testament to refer to the actual presence of God.
