The Mark of the Beast – What Your Church May Not Be Telling You
By ICA
Revelation 13:16-17, “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
The most popular view today regarding the Mark of the Beast in Revelation 13 is that it is a literal mark physically placed in the forehead or right hand of those who worship Antichrist. Many teachers of Biblical eschatology will even refer to modern 21st century technology and point to some type of tattoo or implantable microchip under the skin when attempting to explain the mark. But why? What is in the text that leads many to believe that this mark must be physical when, after all, virtually every one of us would agree that while the book of Revelation speaks about the dragon, the Beast, the “Whore of Babylon” or the mark of Christ upon the elect etc. that these descriptions are not referring to a literal dragon, a literal animal, a literal prostitute or a literal seal of Christ? This is obviously figurative language pointing to something completely different. On the other hand, so to speak, is there anything from Scripture to indicate for us that this mark need not be a physical mark at all, but could instead be something else entirely?
After careful consideration, I believe that the Mark of the Beast is very likely a spiritual mark just as the mark of Christ upon the elect is spiritual. Since many will resist the suggestion that a figurative Beast will also have a figurative mark, despite the fact that there is nothing in the text stating that the Mark of the Beast must be physical, it is important to rightly divide the Word of God and study, from the whole of Scripture, the significance of the hand and head and how it often relates to man’s condition in the Biblical text.
Arguments Against a Figurative or Spiritual Mark
First, however, let’s begin with arguments that are often issued against a figurative or spiritual mark. Some will contend that if John literally saw a mark in the forehead and hand of those who worshiped the Beast then it must therefore have been literal and physical. This, however, is a poor argument considering that John “saw” the seal of God upon the foreheads of the elect as well, yet everyone agrees this seal is spiritual in nature. Since we know that the seal of God is not literal, “seeing” the mark in the forehead of those who worshiped the Beast likewise does not mean that it must be a physical, literal mark.
Others may argue that because John used the word “charagma” (G5480) for “mark” which means “a stamp, an imprinted mark” that it must refer to a literal mark because it is physical by definition, but this — again — is another example of poor argumentation because John employs many other words throughout Revelation that refer to something physical by definition yet uses them figuratively as symbols of something else entirely. For example:
Revelation 13:17 – the beast – “therion” G2342 – an animal, a wild beast
Revelation 12:3 – Dragon – “drakon” G1404 – a dragon, a great serpent
Revelation 12:3 – horns – “keras” G2768 – a horn; of animals
Revelation 12:3 – crowns – “diadema” G1238 – a diadem; a kingly ornament, crown
Revelation 14:4 – Lamb – “arnion” G721 – a little lamb, a lamb
According to the “charagma = physical mark” argument, the Beast should be literal. The dragon should be literal. The ten horns on the head of the dragon, the crowns, the lamb, etc. etc etc. should all be literal because the words that John used refer to things that are physical by definition. We would all agree, however, that these are figurative. It does not stand to reason that the figurative dragon, with the seven figurative heads, ten figurative horns and a figurative crown upon each figurative horn — a figurative dragon who hates the figurative woman and who gives power to the figurative Beast that opposes the figurative lamb (a figurative lamb who figuratively marks those who follow the figurative lamb with a figurative seal) — puts a literal, physical mark upon those who worship the figurative Beast. The song “One Of These Things (Is Not Like The Other)” comes to mind, doesn’t it? It makes much more sense that the word “mark (charagma)” is used figuratively by John, just as “lamb (arnion)” and “crowns (diadema)” and “horns (keras)” and many others all refer to something physical and tangible that we can identify with. All are symbolic or spiritual, not literal and physical.
The Significance of the Head and Hand, and Being ‘Marked’ in Scripture
As for the significance of being ‘marked’ in the head or hand, let’s review a few portions of Scripture that refer to the head and hand and what these terms mean in those specific contexts.
Exodus 13:9 says, “And it shall serve AS A SIGN to you on your hand, and AS A REMINDER to you on your forehead, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth; for with a powerful hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.”
The Lord said that His words are to be as a sign on our hand, and as frontals on our foreheads. The word “as” is “used to express similarity or equality in a specified characteristic, condition, etc., as between one person or thing and another.” It means “like” or “similar to.”
Sign: H226 Strong’s Bible Dictionary “ôth” – Probably from H225 (in the sense of appearing); a signal, as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, etc.: – mark, miracle, (en-) sign, token.
Deuteronomy 6:5-8, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them AS A SIGN ON YOUR HAND and they shall be AS FRONTALS ON YOUR FOREHEAD.”
Deuteronomy 11:18, “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them AS A SIGN ON YOUR HAND, and they shall be AS FRONTLETS BETWEEN YOUR EYES.”
James 4:8, “Come near to God and he will come near to you. WASH YOUR HANDS, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you DOUBLE-MINDED.”
Psalms 119:48, “My HANDS ALSO I WILL LIFT UP to Your commandments, Which I love, And I will MEDIATE ON YOUR STATUTES.”
Instead of interpreting Scripture to conform to our understanding, we must allow our understanding to conform to Scripture. When Scripture is permitted to interpret itself we’ll then begin to see why the Mark of the Beast need not be literal at all, but is instead simply an identifying mark upon the head or forehead to represent the mind, what you believe, your faith, how you think, and in the right hand to represent actions, works, what you do. There is nothing in the text necessitating a physical and visible mark upon the forehead or right hand as in a microchip or tattoo or anything else that a people or government can physically place therein or upon. It just doesn’t exist.
The Mark of the Beast – A Closer Look
Aside from those who worship the Beast, the only other figure in the book of Revelation directly related to the Beast and described as having a mark or name upon their forehead is one who many Bible scholars and prophecy teachers refer to as the “Whore of Babylon.” This “woman” is described as being carried by the Beast (17:7), and all agree she is figurative and identified by the name upon her forehead. This alone should beg the question: If the name marked upon the forehead of this “woman” is figurative to designate identity, would this not then infer that the Mark of the Beast is itself also a figurative mark to designate identity, especially considering the fact that the mark of God upon the foreheads of the elect is itself also figurative to designate identity (Rev 7:3, Rev 9:4, Rev 14:1, Rev 22:3-4)? Common sense would dictate that, yes, it would.
In Scripture, the seal of God upon the forehead of the elect refers to those who keep the commandments of God and who do not worship the Beast. Conversely, those who have the Mark of the Beast would therefore be identified with those who worship the Beast and do not worship God. This would be the direct antithesis to the mark of Christ and symbolic of worship, of allegiance, of identity to permit all readers of Revelation to know to whom the individual or group belongs to and to whom their allegiance lies. And for those with the Mark of the Beast, it is not with YHWH the God of Israel. Just as those who worship Christ receive the mark of Christ and are “sealed for the day of redemption” (Eph. 4:30), those who worship the Beast receive the Mark of the Beast and will “drink of the wine of the wrath of God” (Rev. 14:9-10) and suffer the same fate as the “Whore of Babylon”: destruction.
The Beast Carries the “Whore of Babylon” – Who Is She?
In chapter 5 of the book of Zechariah we read about a vision that Zechariah was given of a flying scroll and a “wicked woman”. An angel tells Zechariah that “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land” at the appointed time (5:3,11). The Prophet Zechariah then writes that “the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, ‘Look up and see what this is that is appearing.’ I asked, ‘What is it?’ He replied, ‘It is a measuring basket.’ And he added, ‘This is the iniquity of the people throughout the land.’ Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman” (Zech 5:5-7). Zechariah continues, “He said, ‘This is wickedness,’ and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed the lead cover down over its mouth. Then I looked up–and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth. ‘Where are they taking the basket?’ I asked the angel who was speaking to me. He replied, ‘To the country of Babylonia to build a house for it. When it is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.’” (Zech 5:8-11).
Of particular interest here is the fact that this “curse” is described as a “woman” who would be set up in “Babylon” (Shin’ar). The Babylonian Empire encompassed areas of Saudi Arabia (the birthplace and spiritual homestead of Islam) to the south, to parts of Asia Minor (Turkey) in the north, and from Egypt in the west to Persia (Iran) in the east. This area is today the regional epicenter of Islam. Additionally, one intriguing aspect to the “curse” that goes out over the whole land is that the word for “curse”, and even how it is pronounced, is the Hebrew word “alah”. The Prophet Isaiah, in describing the condition of the earth at the time leading up to the Second Coming of Messiah, says that “the curse [alah] has devoured the earth, And those who dwell in it are desolate” (Isa 24:6). To dwell in the earth does not in and of itself make one “desolate”. But the same cannot be said for those who dwell in the “curse.”
There should be little doubt that the “woman” of Zechariah 5 that would have a house built for it in Babylon directly represents the “Whore of Babylon” referred to earlier. Over 600 years after Zechariah’s vision of the end times, John in Revelation 17 is given a vision of the future and of “the great harlot who sits on many waters … And on her forehead a name [was] written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (17:1,5). Given the fact that the “Whore of Babylon” directly represents the curse (alah), is being carried by the Beast, and is herself marked with a name upon her forehead, does it not stand to reason that the Mark of the Beast would therefore be associated with, or directly related to, the “woman” and “curse” (alah) prophesied by Zechariah and John?
Narrowing It Down and Zooming In
Moreover, let’s also consider the following. The Church of God — the assembly of His people — is called the “Ekklesia” in Scripture and in terms of location is identified with Jerusalem, Israel. This is the epicenter of the Judeo-Christian faith. If the “Bride” of the Lamb is identified as a city called “Jerusalem” (Rev. 21:9-10, “Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife… and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God”) then does it not stand to reason that the “Whore of Babylon” would also be associated with a city of its own? From the preponderance of the evidence that we are given throughout Scripture, the “whore” identified by John in Revelation is associated with the epicenter of Islam itself. And what would that be? The city of Mecca. Whereas the Judeo-Christian faith came out of Jerusalem, Islam came out of Mecca, the birthplace of “Allah’s religion” and the spiritual city of the “Ummah”. She is the “whore of Babylon”. “Babylon” is the Islamic kingdom. The Islamic kingdom is the Beast. (And for what it’s worth, Mecca is known as a “city of seven hills” in the Muslim world).
Babylon: Spiritual Confusion and the Quagmire of Islam
The name Babylon written upon the forehead of this “woman” comes from the Hebrew word Babel, which means “confusion (by mixing)”. Since the region of ancient Babylon is today the epicenter of Islam and its god “Allah”, it is befitting to note a brief history of the founder and ‘prophet’ of Islam, Mohammed, and his self-proclaimed holy book, the Qur’an.
In an effort to entice Jewish and Christian converts to Islam, Islam’s ‘prophet’ incorporated a twisted mix of Jewish and Christian teachings with the existing Babylonian religion of Arabia early in his campaign to gain adherents to his “new” monotheistic Arab religion (formerly polytheistic), even going so far as to claim that “Allah” was the same god that Jews and Christians worshiped [1]. But Jews and Christians would not be deceived and, already familiar with the polytheistic religion of the Romans and their Greek gods, understood full well that just as abolishing all other Greek gods except Zeus would not suddenly make Zeus the God of Israel, neither would abolishing all Babylonian gods except for the moon god “Allah” suddenly make Mohammed’s god the God of Jews and Christians. This complete rejection of Mohammed and his teachings infuriated the ‘prophet’ of “Allah”, resulting in subsequent “revelations” for the Qur’an for the next 20 or so years that grew increasingly hateful and violent against Jews, Christians and all non-Muslims in general. This twisted mixing of Judeo-Christian teachings, Babylonian paganism and vengeful anti-Semitic and anti-Christian hatred is what permeates every crevice of Islam, even today.
Islam – Belief, Behavior, Bureaucracy, and Business

According to Islam, anyone who believes that Jesus was God in the flesh who died on the cross for the sins of mankind, a foundational tenet upon which Christianity is built, is accused of committing the worst of all possible sins called “shirk”. In Islam, this is an unpardonable sin that “Allah” will never forgive. In Christianity it is the key to everlasting life. But although Islam includes religious teachings as a vital, integral part of its core — Muslims must pray five times a day, and the only way for any Muslim to guarantee Paradise after death is to wage Jihad and be killed for the cause of “Allah” — it is not just simply a religious ideology that seeks to assert itself in place of Christ and all other religions. It is also a works-based system that completely encompasses legal, political, economic and even military components as well that seek to replace all other non-Islamic religions, values, laws, governments and economies until only Islam reigns supreme throughout the world [3]. Not only does Islam force its adherents to submit to “Allah” and his ‘prophet’ and demand that you reject any belief that Jesus is the Son of God and all other non-Islamic teachings, it also teaches that “Allah” weighs the good deeds and bad deeds of Muslims on a scale to determine who makes it into Paradise, and who does not.
In contrast, notice how we as Christians only receive a mark on our foreheads when we are sealed by God. Why not in our right hand as well? Unlike Islam, which is based upon works, Christians are saved by grace through faith, by being born again, by believing in the true Jesus of Biblical Scripture who died upon the cross, by being transformed by the renewal of our mind. We are not saved by works, lest any one should boast (Eph 2:9).
No One Can Buy or Sell Unless They Have the ‘Mark’
The biggest question that many will have regarding a symbolic mark is, “If the Mark of the Beast is only symbolic, how can those who do not have a literal mark not buy or sell?” This is often used as well by some as an argument against a figurative mark, arguing that any such mark must be visible and/or physical if it is required in order to buy or sell. However, the answer to this question is much simpler than many may think.
When it comes to the conditions that exist in many Islamic nations for Christians, Dr. Labib Mikhail, a former professor of homiletics from the Faith Mission Bible College in Cairo, Egypt, states that one reason why people are forced to embrace Islam is because of the poverty they will assuredly find themselves in if they do not. “If you don’t embrace Islam you may not find a job; you may not find an apartment, and you’ll be in financial trouble” [4]. Non-Muslims, particularly Christians and Jews, living in Muslim-dominated countries are finding themselves subjected to an ever increasing wave of discrimination, oppression and persecution at the hands of the Ummah (Islamic Community). Even today a Christian in a Muslim country is often treated as a second-class citizen or worse, unable to serve in the military or police, many cannot work or own a business, or even find a place to live. They cannot own a weapon to defend themselves, nor can they testify against a Muslim in court, etc. etc. etc. [5]. And this type of treatment is getting worse, not better. (Update: Read here to find out just how much worse this has become in 2011 alone).
According to NIFCON (Network for Inter Faith Concerns) in Iraq, for example, minorities have faced a tremendous crisis due to their religious identity and are increasingly becoming targets of unprecedented terror. Canon Andrew White, vicar of St. George’s Anglican Church in Bagdad and head of the Foundation for Reconciliation and Reconstruction in the Middle East, testified as a witness in 2007 at a hearing that Christians, in particular, “are being disproportionately targeted” and many Christians are being threatened either to convert to Islam or face execution [6]. In fact, in April 2011, “an Iraqi Muslim scholar issued a fatwa that, among other barbarities, asserts that ‘it is permissible to spill the blood of Iraqi Christians.’ … Among other atrocities, beheading and crucifying Christians are not irregular occurrences; messages saying ‘you Christian dogs, leave or die,’ are typical. Islamists see the church as an ‘obscene nest of pagans’ and threaten to ‘exterminate Iraqi Christians.'” [7].
Think about this very carefully. According to the Greek text of Revelation 13:17-18 it isn’t just someone who hasn’t received the “Mark of the Beast” on the right hand or forehead that cannot buy or sell. In order to buy or sell they must have the Mark of the Beast *or* the name of the Beast *or* the number of its name. In other words, those able to buy or sell are counted among the number of they who submit to the authority of the Beast empire or kingdom, not because they have been physically marked in the right hand or forehead for all to see, but because they are considered one of them ideologically or culturally or religiously in speech and practise. Consider these recent new stories, for instance:
- ‘Islamic State’ Orders Muslim Employers To Fire All Christians
- Egypt: Businesses Told Not To Sell To, Or Buy From, Christians
- Muslims Demand Christian Bookstores Stop Selling Christian Material
- Muslim Mobs Attacking Christian Businesses And Pharmacies In Egypt
- Iran Refusing Business License For Christians, ‘Do Not To Employ Them’
- Pakistan: Armed Muslims Attack Money-Making Christians In Sheikhupura
- Say The Islamic Statement Of Faith, Or You Cannot Buy From Muslim Stores
- Syrian Rebels To Christians: Comply With Islamic Law, Otherise It’s No Jobs, Death
- Egypt: No Business, No Money, No Home: Christians Flee As Islamists Seek Take Over
- Egypt: ‘When I Apply To Any Job And They Know That I’m Christian, They Refuse Me’
- Iraq: Islamists Destroy Christian Businesses, ‘If Anyone Reopens His Store, We’ll Kill Him’
- Iraq: ISIS Terrorists Stop Christians From Selling Homes, Kill Real Estate Agents For Doing Business With Them
And these are simply some of the incidents that we know about.
On one hand, while many are coming face to face with the threat of death for not converting to Islam, other Christians elsewhere are threatened to convert in other ways that, for some, make life extremely difficult. In many Islamic nations, for instance, everyone must be given an ID card and this ID card specifies what religion you are, such as “M” for Muslim or “C” for Christian or “J” for Jew. For example, “Christian converts and members of minority religions suffer daily discrimination in Egypt, which restricts their access to work, education, travel and healthcare… Every Egyptian over 16 years old must have an ID card which mentions religious belief”. In fact, “an ID card is required for the most basic needs in Egypt — to open a bank account, get a driver’s licence, obtain a pension cheque, enrol at school, get a job, and even for childhood immunisations…” Some Muslims will convert to another faith other than Christianity, but “Muslims who convert to Christianity account for many more and their treatment is often harsher as they are considered to be apostates, which some Muslims see as punishable by death” [8]. And now, since the fall of Hosni Mubarak and the rise of the ‘Egyptian Revolution,’ the situation has worsened dramatically for Jews and Christians. This is where Islamic supremacy veiled in a cloak of ‘democracy’ will take you in a country where Islam is the overwhelming, dominant religion. It’s like Sunni and Shia. It’s like iron and clay. Democracy and Islamism will never fully mix.
These sort of conditions exist for Jews and Christians all throughout North Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere where Islam dominates or seeks domination, from the Ivory Coast to Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, The Maldives, Bangladesh and others.
When we begin to understand the dire social and economic conditions that Christians are increasingly facing in Islamic nations we then begin to understand that they who will not be able to buy or sell, or are targeted for execution, are those Christians that refuse to submit to Islam both in mind (forehead) and in deed (right hand) yet are forced to remain in Islamic nations during the rise of the Beast. How can a non-Muslim “infidel” — who is often threatened with death — buy or sell if they are not permitted to work and earn money, if they are not granted permits to open a business, if the superior Muslim will refuse to sell to the inferior “dhimmi”? As bad as this situation is now, it is only going to get worse.
Chi-Xi-Stigma — In The Name of Allah?
Revelation 13:18, “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.”
Someone asked me once if I believed Walid Shoebat’s theory regarding Revelation 13:18 and “666”. Shoebat says that when he first saw the Greek symbols that are often translated as “666” he immediately recognized that the Greek text closely resembled the Arabic text for “Bismillah”, which translates to “In The Name Of Allah.” His theory is interesting and is something to consider. At the very least, it is prudent to have an open mind to this position, especially given the likelihood that the Mark of the Beast is, in some way, directly related to Islam. Mr. Shoebat and Chuck Missler speak about this possible aspect of chi-xi-stigma here in the following two videos, respectively:
Sunan Ibn Majah 2763, “The Messenger of Allah [Mohammed] said: ‘Whoever meets Allah with no mark on him (as a result of fighting) in His cause, he will meet Him with deficiency.”
Although I believe that the Mark of the Beast is primarily a spiritual designator, much like the mark of Christ that is upon the foreheads of the elect, that is not to say, however, that there cannot or will not at times also be a physical indicator that could identify the spiritual designation. In addition to the “battle marks” received while waging Jihad or the “zebibah” (prayer mark) on the foreheads of many devout Muslims, Jihadists typically wear the “Bismallah” on the forehead and on the right arm, which itself is significant because the Greek word translated as “right hand” is dexios which not only means the right hand, but also the right side (the right hand side). In fact, even the Hebrew word “yad” means both hand and arm [7].
Exegetically and hermeneutically, the “number” (arithmos) of the beast does not necessitate the use of mathematics or gammatria to “reckon” (understand) what it is, something that many prophecy teachers often fall into. The word “arithmos” is used a total of 18 times in the NT, and aside from Rev 5:11 when John refers to the number of living beings he witnesses around the throne of God, every other time “arithmos” is used it is always referring to a group of people. This is significant because it therefore means that the Greek text is better understood as “the multitude of the beast: for it is the multitude of a man.” But what multitude of people would that be and what man are they all following? There is nothing in the text telling us that the man referred to here must be someone alive at that specific time or an end-of-days Antichrist. So what and who is John the Revelator referring to? Significantly, as noted above, “chi-xi-stigma” (often translated as “666”) closely resembles the Arabic Bismallah, which translates to “In The Name Of Allah”. In order to convert to “Allah’s” religion, however, one must recite the Islamic statement of faith, called the Shahada, by declaring that “There is no god but Allah, and MOHAMMED is his messenger.” Without Christ, there can be no Christianity. Likewise, without Mohammed, there can be no Islam.
Think about it.
One of the reasons why Muslims hate Christianity is because Christianity associates Jesus with God, making Jesus a co-equal partner with the Almighty. According to Islam, this is called “shirk” and is an unpardonable sin that “Allah” will never forgive. The truth of the matter, however, is that Islam itself also associates the “prophet” Mohammed — whom Muslims claim to be the most “perfect man” to ever walk the face of the earth — with “Allah” himself. On one hand, Islam teaches that “Allah” has no partners, but then contradicts itself by teaching that someone cannot become a Muslim unless they acknowledge that “There is no God but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger” per the Shahada. Unless one acknowledges Mohammed they cannot become a Muslim. In Islam, a Muslim’s “salvation” is therefore entirely determined by their obedience and devotion to Mohammed, effectively elevating the “prophet” of Islam to the same co-equal status of Islam’s own deity. To acknowledge “Allah” is not enough. You MUST acknowledge the “perfect man” Mohammed as well, and failure to do so means that they cannot be counted as part of the Ummah of Islam (Islamic community or nation).
The multitude of the Beast, which is the multitude of a man, are those who receive the “Mark of the Beast” upon their “foreheads” and are destined for destruction. This is the direct antithesis to the “great multitude” of Rev 7 and 14, which is the multitude of the Lamb that receives the seal of God upon their “foreheads” (Rev 7:3, 14:1) and are destined for redemption (cf Eph 4:30). One multitude is lost and separated from Christ forever (Rev 14:11), the other is saved and received unto Christ (Rev 7:15-17, 19:6-9, 22:2-5) to be with Him always. In light of what we have just learned, it therefore stands to reason that “the multitude of a man” is not referring to an eschatonic Antichrist, but rather to Mohammed — the founder and “prophet” of Islam — and those who follow him whose teachings even today continues to force all those under Islamic rule to worship “Allah” who should otherwise be killed if they refuse.
Revelation 13:15, “The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.”
Knowing that the mark of Christ includes a name upon the seal, it therefore makes sense that the Mark of the Beast could also have a name upon its seal as well. If it is plausible that what John saw was Arabic for “In The Name of Allah” for those who worship the Beast — the antithesis of those who worship God and are sealed with the name of Christ written on their foreheads — then in stark contrast those who worship the Beast and follow the religion of Mohammed could have the name of “Allah” upon theirs, and there would be no doubt about who belongs to who. Interestingly enough, the Qur’an itself at times emphasizes the significance of a Muslim’s forehead being marked during the worship of “Allah” — a mark that is required in order to be saved from hellfire per the Hadith — and how their works will be judged by what is in their right hand on the Day of Judgment:
Qur’an Sura 48:29, “Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers … The mark of them is on their foreheads from the traces of prostration …”
Qur’an Sura 18:49, “And the Book (one’s Record) will be placed (in the right hand for a believer in the Oneness of Allah, and in the left hand for a disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah) …”
Qur’an Sura 69:19, “Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!”
Qur’an Sura 57:12, “On that day [of judgement] you will see the faithful men and the faithful women [Muslims] — their light running before them and on their right hand …”
Needless to say, anyone standing before God with a “mark” on their foreheads other than the seal of Christ will face eternal damnation when the books recording what they had done are opened:
Revelation 20:12, 15, “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books … Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 14:11, “And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”
To Whom Do You Belong?
Revelation 22:3-4, “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads.” (See also Rev 14:1).
The Ekklesia is “Jerusalem” — the Bride of Christ — and is identified with the kingdom of God. The Ummah is “Mecca” — the “Whore of Babylon” — and is identified with the kingdom of the Beast. It is no secret that al-Qaeda and all like-minded Sunni and Shia terror organizations despise the “apostate” kingdom of Saud, not to mention Iran — a state-sponsor of terror — that is well on its way to obtaining nuclear weapons. These are they who “hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire” (Rev 17:16). The “Whore of Babylon” has spread radical Islamic ideology throughout the earth and the Beast that she has ridden throughout the centuries will soon turn on her to devour the hand that fed it.
New insights into Scripture and a review of developments being witnessed on a near daily basis in the Muslim world has lead a growing number of Christians to now recognize that Islam is the religious system of the Last Day’s Antichrist [be it a man or a system] and ideology of the Beast. It is the Adversary’s aim to corrupt and destroy anything that God has created, and this “curse” [alah] is his weapon of mass destruction. There should be no doubt today that we are in the last of the Last Days and as we can see every day in the media, the Judeo-Christian West is being bombarded by the steadily encroaching tentacles of Sharia influence as Islamists take advantage of the West’s accommodating naivete and political correctness by using and abusing the very same democratic freedoms they seek to destroy. While seeking the destruction of the West from within, it is getting increasingly dire for Jews and Christians in the Islamic world. The Beast of this Islamic Empire is coalescing. It is gaining in strength militarily. The Islamist ideology espoused by Al Qaeda and its ilk has metastasized since 9/11 throughout the Muslim world and is seeking to force as many non-Muslims as possible into Islamic submission. Within this kingdom, laws are being enforced or implemented in accordance to Sharia Law to produce your ID card and/or prove you are Muslim in order to buy or sell. If anyone wants to have any semblance of a life they will be forced to convert to Islam if they have not already done so. It may even get to the point where one will be unable to obtain an ID card if they are not Muslim. Want a job? Prove you’re a Muslim. Want a bank account? Prove you’re a Muslim. Want a credit card? A business? A place to live? Prove that you are a Muslim. As radicalization continues to take hold it will also get to the point where either you convert, or you are killed. The article was just updated to include a brief, yet significant, reinforcing detail with respect to “arithmos” in Revelation 13:18. Though this word is used a total of 18 times in the New Testament and is translated as “number” each time, what is significant here is the fact that every other time “arithmos” is used it is always referring to a group of people, with the exception of Revelation 5:11 when John refers to the number of beings he witnesses around the throne of God. Hermeneutically, this suggests therefore that the only way to properly understand the “number of the Beast” is in terms of the “multitude of the Beast”, which is to say, the people of the Beast.

Good point ICA on arithmos amazing how you keep digging these important points up – the meaning “multitude of the Beast” reminds me of the Haj and Daniel 3 and the command for all the people to bow down to Nebuchadnezzars golden image

ICA, I would like you to make a stronger case for this interpretation. I understand both your stated logic and your unstated motivation (which one must always be wary of – if we have a destination in mind, we must be careful not to push our interpretation toward it, rather than let the meaning lead us there), however I don’t agree with it, at this point.
1. Using Bible Gateway I looked at 1/2 dozen of the most likely translations/paraphrases to have translated this verse the way you have; none did. Are you aware of any bible translations that are similar to your take?
2. In looking at your Blue Letter Bible link and the 18 occurrences of the word, I think it is reasonable to interpret arithmos as “amount” rather than “number”, but “multitude” stretches the meaning too far. Go ahead and replace “number” with “amount” in these verses – they still make sense. When replaced with “multitude”, in most cases, they don’t.
3. In Rev 13:18, in both the Textus Receptus and the GNT Morph, arithmos appears 3 times, the third time it does not describe an amount or number of people, but the number “666” (if this is translated properly), so it is not strictly true that every time arithmos is used it is of people.
I am not saying you are not onto something – I’m saying, ‘dig further, make your case airtight.’
I’ll tell you, I didn’t realize arithmos appeared 3 times in the verse prior to writing this reply. I think that is significant in itself (not sure how, just seems like it ought to be!)

Hi Kurt, the issue is not how the word should be translated in the English, but rather how the Greek “arithmos” is intended to be understood. Per above, every other usage of the word refers to a group (amount/multitude/number) of people, or in the case of Rev 5:11, refers to a group (amount/multitude/number) of living beings. The syntax or sentence structure of the English translation may or may not appropriate the word “amount” or “multitude” itself per se — that is not the point. The point, rather, is that this is always its intended meaning. Here are all of the verses that use “arithmos”:
Luke 22:3, “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
John 6:10, “And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Acts 4:4, “Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Acts 5:36, “For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Acts 6:7, “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Acts 11:21, “And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Acts 16:5, “And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Romans 9:27, “Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Revelation 5:11, “And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;” <– an amount/multitude/number of living beings.
Revelation 7:4, “And I heard the number of them which were sealed: [and there were] sealed an hundred [and] forty [and] four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Revelation 9:16, “And the number of the army of the horsemen [were] two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
Revelation 20:8, “And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom [is] as the sand of the sea.” <– an amount/multitude/number of people.
In light of every verse above, does it not stand to reason that the “number” (arithmos) of the Beast would therefore also be referring to an amount/multitude/number of people?
Revelation 13:17-18, “And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.”
Revelation 15:2, “And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, [and] over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.”
I say yes, it does. And what is the number of the beast, which is the number of a man? It is the Ummah, those who follow a man named Mohammed and his religion.
Kurt J., “In Rev 13:18, in both the Textus Receptus and the GNT Morph, arithmos appears 3 times, the third time it does not describe an amount or number of people, but the number “666″ (if this is translated properly)”
Revelation 13:18’s “chi-xi-stigma” appears to be not just Greek, but also Arabic. If, as Walid Shoebat contends, John saw the Islamic bismallah (which John himself may not have understood when he was instructed to write what he saw), then its intent would yet again not be referring to an actual number. This may have been the reason why John wrote that wisdom/knowledge/learning would be required and to “let him that hath understanding psēphizō the arithmos of the Beast” …

I would say, though you’ve inserted multitude between amount and number in your analysis in hopes that it can be interchangeable with the other words, it is nonetheless forced. That may be beside the point however, as amount could accomplish (more or less) the same intent to which you are reaching.
Yes, nearly all of the usages refer to an amount of people, but not an unlimited or innumerable amount, as you are attempting to make Rev 13:18 convey. For instance, Luke 22:3, “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the multitude of the twelve” doesn’t work.
And in your reply above you omitted highlighting the last occurrence of arithmos here: “and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.” This time arithmos doesn’t refer to people/person, but a number, unless of course Walid is correct and the meaning of “666” is Allah.
I don’t think “multitude” is accurate.

Arithmos is used 191 times between the Greek OT and NT. And it is ALWAYS used as an amount/counting of something, never as “multitude”. It can be used as “a great number of” something, but never in place of “multitude” itself. It also has a verb form that is used when counting or measuring something (like the weight of something). So the above so-called information about the usage of the Greek word is just a plain incorrect, probably done by people who have no idea of how the Greek language works.

Hi Anon, thank you for your comment. Please take a moment to re-read the previous reply above and pay close attention to each verse that uses “arithmos” (G706). In virtually every instance of “arithmos” in the NT it is always referring to an amount of something, yes. But what? It is referring to an amount of people. It is referring to a multitude, to people, whether it be a relatively small crowd or a great number.
arithmos (G706) – noun – 1) a fixed and definite number
2) an indefinite number, a multitude
Again, if we, in light of Revelation 15:2, are said to have victory over the “arithmos of his name”, how else could we reasonably conclude that “arithmos” could be referring to anything other than a “multitude” of people who stand against the elect of God? In light of all that we know with respect to the “curse” (alah), the “Whore of Babylon” and the prophecies concerning the “surrounding nations” that are today all Islamic, would it not be more reasonable to understand this in terms of victory over the multitude of Mohammed, the ones who are today waging war against us and are seeking to wipe out our very existence? I think the answer is quite clear.
Revelation 15:2, “And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, [and] over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.”

It would not be unlimited or innumerable. As in all former instances, it would of course have to be finite. But again, the focus is not the interchangeability of multitude and amount and number, but rather the intent of arithmos in Revelation 13:17-18, to which I would contend that as in all other preceding examples the arithmos of the Beast would be referring to people, that is to say, to the multitude of a man, the Ummah of Islam. The “amount” of a man wouldn’t make much sense. Though the number of a man could (if gematria is what was intended, which I would contest), in light of the preponderance of the evidence outlined in the original article as well as the whole of Scripture, I would contend that the most appropriate word to convey the intended meaning, in this instance, would be the multitude of the Beast, which is the multitude of a man — Mohammed. It seems reasonable to me, therefore, that Walid Shoebat could be correct. All things considered, the chances that “chi-xi-stigma” would so closely resemble the bismallah would therefore be much more than just one monumental coincidence.

I like your overall interpretation more than gematria, that we dealing with an amount of people that make up the beast and the number of those that follow a man (yes, Mohammad), however, I can’t agree that “multitude” is the best or correct translation of arithmos.
And, at least currently, I can’t agree with Walid on his chi-xi-stigma pictorial interpretation of Greek letters. Does this happen anywhere else in all of scripture, that we are supposed to take the shape of the letters in one language and turn them into words and pictures in another? Yes, I get that we are to “calculate” the number of the Beast, but there is at least one other, more logical, more in keeping with the symbolical mode of Revelation interpretation: That the number “6” is representative of man; this “666” man is entirely “manish”, he is Antichrist. As God is “truine-ly” perfect, he is perfectly fallen. I think the three arithmos correspond with the three “sixes”.
Another thing to keep in mind, though I might be a bit out of my depth in saying this: I believe it is only the Textus Receptus that contains chi-xi-stigma in its solitary arrangement; this is the source of the KJV, while the vast majority of more modern English versions derive from the GNT Morph, which contains the more spelled out “six hundred & sixty six”. In other words, Shoebat’s interpretation only works if we look at the one source and not the other. Please correct me if I’m wrong on that.

Not that I am aware of, but why would it need to? Keep in mind that John was told to write what he saw, and what he saw was something that apparently resembled “chi-xi-stigma”. But is “chi-xi-stigma” what he saw? If that’s what it was, why would he say, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that more knowledge would be needed in order to “reckon” what it was?
Kurt J., “there is at least one other, more logical, more in keeping with the symbolical mode of Revelation interpretation: That the number ‘6’ is representative of man; this ‘666’ man is entirely ‘manish’, he is Antichrist. As God is ‘truine-ly’ perfect, he is perfectly fallen. I think the three arithmos correspond with the three ‘sixes’.”
The issue I have with that view is that the Greek text does not say “six” and “six” and “six”. It says “chi-xi-stigma” or, as some translations say, “six-hundred and [three-score] sixty and six”. Some manuscripts even have the “number” as 616.

You may be right, I haven’t looked into it in depth myself. But even the Greek text that Shoebat uses is from ~ 340 AD (Codex Vaticanus), itself written hundreds of years before Islam. You can see the relevant portion of Revelation 13 here. At any rate, what John wrote was confusing to many. Even some scribes, apparently, did not understand what it was he wrote.

Here’s one more thing to chew on. As you know, Mohammed and Islam cannot be separated. They are united together like Jesus and Christianity. Without Jesus, there is no Christianity. Without Mohammed, there is no Islam.

Actually that is very convincing. In the end, I don’t disagree with your conclusion, but some of the steps along the way, namely turning chi-xi-stigma a word into a mixture (hey, wait a minute…) of a word and picture (in another language no less), and the precise meaning of “multitude”, when arithmos means “amount”. I do however agree that the “amount” is always a measure word for people/persons in the Bible, especially if “666” is actually Allah.
Thanks for the discussion, I am more convinced.

2. The various derivations alleged by those who hold that it comes from a common noun. Eight of these are given, with theological and metaphysical refutations of an a priori kind ; the facts of the language have little consideration.
3. The linguistic possibility of derivation. Some held that it was from Hebrew or Syriac; but it was known by the Arabs in the time of Muhammad as a plain Arabic word, and as such most accept it. Hi TMJ, it’s actually quite simple. In addition to what was already explained in the article, consider the following, which is almost certainly just one example in a growing sea of many throughout the Muslim world that isn’t being shared or highlighted by the media:
“A friend from Egypt, who lives in Cairo says that she is regularly greeted in Muslim places of business with ‘lā ilāha illà l-Lāh, Muḥammadun rasūlu l-Lāh’ (There is no God other than Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger). If she does not respond in kind, she is asked to leave.” (See here).
The ones who are permitted to buy and sell don’t need to have a physical mark on the hand or forehead. They simply need to recite the Shahada of Islam. Yet because this woman is a Christian, she would not recite it and was therefore not permitted to buy anything from this Muslim place of business. Similarly, there are reports all throughout the Islamic world were Christians are unable to buy or sell. For example, the Islamic Republic of Iran refused a business license to a convert to Christianity recently and has been ordering businesses to not employ Christians (read more). In Iraq Islamists have destroyed Christian businesses, leaving ominous warnings to Christian owners stating that if any of them re-open their store they would be killed (read more). Additionally, in Egypt “calls are often made in the media not to buy from Christian merchants or to sell anything to Christians. Businessmen are therefore faced with a struggle for economic survival. Christians are indirectly excluded from employment, for example by job advertisements specifying ‘a female employee with headscarf’. Attempts are being made ‘to drive the Christians out’” (read more).
As you can see, an increasing number of Christians are now being forced into severe economic hardship, unable to buy or sell simply because of the fact that they are not Muslim and refuse to think and act like one. They are not counted as part of the “multitude” of Mohammed and examples like these are only what’s being reported, likely the tip of the proverbial iceberg. And it isn’t going to get any better.

Hmm, that’s very interesting- having to recite your allegiance at muslim stores in order to buy something. Yet, I can’t see door greeters asking the mobs of people who go through their large doors to recite a pledge before entering- it seems to be more logical to have a visible “membership” mark of sorts. Kinda like membership cards – you can’t buy at Sam’s Club or Cosco unless you have their membership card – which you have to show to the
person guarding the door before entering their store. So it seems to me, both things maybe required to “authenticate” ones allegiance in different retail situations, especially online transactions.
Sam’s club even has different levels of membership with different perks. It seems to me that a mark on the forehead would have a higher significance than a mark on the hand – in an esoteric/occult/New Age sense.
Interestingly enough, as of Jan. 2007, SOMARK has developed RFID tatooing ink that is both visible and invisible for monotoring lab rat and cattle information – here is just some of the article:
Invisible RFID Ink Safe For Cattle And People, Company Says

“The process developed by Somark involves a geometric array of micro-needles and an ink capsule, which is used to ‘tattoo’ an animal. The ink can be detected from 4 feet away.”
“Co-founder Mark Pydynowski said during an interview Wednesday that the ink doesn’t contain any metals and can be either invisible or colored. He declined to say what is in the ink, but said he’s certain that it is 100% biocompatible and chemically inert. He also said it is safe for people and animals.”
“The amount of information contained in the ink depends on the surface area available, he said. The U.S. Department of Agriculture calls for a 15-digit number to track cattle. The first three digits are “840” for the U.S. country code. The remaining digits are unique identifiers. The numbers would link to a database containing more information.”
What if the first three digits are “666” for the world religion code? Woah! -right? Something to consider.

In a book such as Revelation, the usage of a word which by definition refers to something physical does not necessitate that the item in view or the usage of the word must therefore itself refer to something physical/literal. We know this simply because of the fact that words such as horns, lamb, beast, dragon, woman, etc. are all themselves physical/literal by definition, but are not intended to be understood in a wooden literal sense. Otherwise, for the sake of consistency, one would need to conclude that the seal (sphragis) of God in the foreheads of the elect in Revelation 9:4 is a physical stamp or impression, or that the name written (graphō) in their foreheads in Revelation 14:1 is literally written by a literal pen or some other writing instrument.

4972 /sphragízō (“to seal”) signifies ownership and the full security carried by the backing (full authority) of the owner. “Sealing” in the ancient world served as a “legal signature” which guaranteed the promise (contents) of what was sealed.
[Sealing was sometimes done in antiquity by the use of religious tattoos – again signifying “belonging to.”]
Nothing whatsoever to do with a pen.
Abraham “sealed” the covenant with circumcision. Very important to take the Bible literally. Otherwise we will all end up like Harold Camping. He went off the edge because he embraced the idea of thinking he could anticipate God. If God says He’s going to seal the 144,000 sons of Israel – He will seal them. As Lucifer forever imitates God – He will want his “mark” on his followers hands and foreheads – the EXACT same places specified in Deuteronomy by the Lord –
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. Deuteronomy 6: 4-8
It would not surprise me in the least if the evil one enters Jerusalem on a donkey.

Hi sage_brush, the word for “seal” in Revelation 9:4 is not the verb sphragízō. It is the noun sphragis, referring to a physical seal/stamp/impression of authentication or proof.

Anonymous, “where are you getting that from because it’s not true as far as I have seen, what linquistic proof do you have to back that up ?…According to my studies Allah is a variation on the aramaic word for God and also hebrew el, there are various languages in which God is said similar to Alla, elllah, ullah and it has nothing to do with baal at all”
Why does the Qur’an assume that the reader is already familiar with who Allah is? “Allah is a pre-Islamic name coming from the compound Arabic word Al-ilah which means the God, which is derived from al (the) ilah (deity).
The Arabic name for ‘God’ is the word ‘Al-ilah.’ It is a generic title for whatever god was considered the highest god. Different Arab tribes used ‘Allah’ to refer to its personal high god. ‘Allah’ was being worshipped at the Kaa’ba in Mecca by Arabs prior to the time of Mohammed. It was formerly the name of the chief god among the numerous idols (360) in the Kaaba in Mecca before Mohammed made them into monotheists. Historians have shown that the moon god called ‘Hubal’ was the god to whom Arabs prayed at the Kaa’ba and they used the name ‘Allah’ when they prayed.
Today a Muslim is one who submits to the God Allah.
Islam means submission to (Allah), but originally it meant that strength which characterized a desert warrior who, even when faced with impossible odds, would fight to the death for his tribe. (Dr. M. Baravmann, The Spiritual Background of Early Islam, E. J. Brill, Leiden, 1972)
Many believe the word ‘Allah’ was derived from the mid- eastern word ‘el’ which in Ugaritic, Caananite and Hebrew can mean a true or false God. This is not the case, ‘The source of this (Allah) goes back to pre-Muslim times. Allah is not a common name meaning ‘God’ (or a ‘god’), and the Muslim must use another word or form if he wishes to indicate any other than his own peculiar deity.’ (Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics (ed. Hastings), I:326.)
According to the Encyclopedia of Religion, Allah corresponded to the Babylonian god Baal, and Arabs knew of him long before Mohammed worshipped him as the supreme God. Before Islam the Arabs recognized many gods and goddesses, each tribe had their own deity. There were also nature deities. Allah was the god of the local Quarish tribe, which was Mohammed’s tribe before he invented Islam to lead his people out of their polytheism. Allah was then known as the Moon God, who had 3 daughters who were viewed as intercessors for the people into Allah. Their names were Al-at, Al-uzza, and Al-Manat, which were three goddesses; the first two daughters of Allah had names which were feminine forms of Allah. Hubal was the chief God of the Kaaba among the other 360 deities. Hubal was the chief God of the Kaaba among the other 360 deities. Hubal was a statue likeness of a man whose body was made of red precious stones whose arms were made of gold. (Reference Islam George Braswell Jr.)” Read more here.

Oh, please let me reiterate: I dont think I am ‘better’ b/c I am a Jew, in fact, its worse.
However, I also taught in the ministry for 10 years. I believe it is not just a spiritual allegiance, I believe it will also be physical, its is plainly written in Revelation 13:17
….and that no man should be able to *buy or to sell*, save he that hath the mark, even the name of the beast or the number of his name.
I dont believe I am hell-bound for believing this way either.
Thank you for the info though.

One more thing; The ministry I have been in was/is for Crypto-Jews. Crypto-Jews have it pretty confusing. They are torn between being Christian or Catholic or being a Jew.
My ‘ministry’ is to get the Jews to embrace their roots in Judaism so they won’t feel alone. It is also so they also embrace their Christianity. It is imperative for the Cryptos to not feel ashamed by either.
Now, I am more involved in seeing that Jews are brought back to Torah.

The problem with Islam being the antichrist religion is it will NOT deceive Christians! Christians will not bow to an Imam. I agree with your study, the Mark is what you believe. And so Deception must be the key. With so many Kingdoms being turned into democracies in the Middle East I personally think the path for the rise of the beast is being made. There will only be 10 kings in the one world system. My money is that zionism is the world system and religion of the end. Isaiah 51 tells us what scriptural Zionism is, and what we see today is worldly zionism and can not stand. That is where the antichrist will come from. Not to say he don’t have some sort of control of Islam but Islam IMHO is just another daughter of Babylon, but not the Mother of harlots.
On another note I have made an interesting connection to a Symbol or “Mark” that represents the beast right out of scripture. Again not saying everyone will wear it. But if it has a name and a number of his name then you would think there is an actual mark that represents the beast and I think I have found it. GB Mike

2 Thess 2:3 indicates a mass apostasy. One needs to know the truth before one can be apostate from the truth. A few verses later, vs 13, it shows that the antichrist will perform miraculous (and false) signs and wonders. I believe this will be the means to deceive those who call themselves Christians but are not spiritually discerning.
History shows that Christians are generally more willing to capitulate to Muslims while Jews are noted for their revolts. In my estimation, the elect will be believing Jews, not non-Jewish Christians.
(Mat 24:24) “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
The point here, I believe, that Jesus is making, is that it will be impossible to mislead the elect, the believing Jews..
ICA.. What is your opinion on this?

I would argue that we are seeing a mass apostasy today. There are many false teachers nesting within the branches of the kingdom. There are the false teachings of cults which have deviated from the faith that was once delivered to the saints. Societies built upon Judeo-Christian principles and values are beginning to shun and turn away from the very faith that made them strong. It is all around us both inside and outside of the Church.
As for false signs and wonders, they don’t need to be things that appear wondrous or miraculous, things that would compel you or I to say, “That’s amazing … How did he do that?” After all, they are false. They can be called “signs” from Allah. They can simply be false claims of the miraculous. For example, consider the following headlines:
Baby Boy Born In Nigeria ‘Clutching A Copy Of The Holy Quran’ Hailed A ‘Miracle’ By Imams And Islamic Scholars
President of Islamic Health Research Association Claims Reciting the Qur’an Can Cure Incurable Diseases
Islamic Scholars Now Say the Qur’an Can Be Used to Cure Non-Muslims
Allah’s Name Appears On The Oceans
Read many more examples of these false signs and lying wonders here. Antichrist will not appear to walk on water. Antichrist will not give life to the dead. Antichrist will not heal the sick or command the storm to be still. Antichrist will only point to events, to circumstances, to military campaigns and random natural occurrences and present them to his people as power and signs and wonders and miracles, yet where none exist. The Qur’an itself is believed to be a “living miracle.” Mohammed’s war victories and his alleged ascent into Heaven during the “Night Journey” are believed to be “great signs” for Muslims to believe in. These counterfeits have been given and will continue to be given and received with joy by the people who follow Antichrist. They will believe them.
But the elect will not. Those who believe in Messiah as Saviour will not believe the lie. They are believing Jews and believing Gentiles. They are God’s ekklesia. They are His Church, and Scripture shows us who the elect are:
Titus 1:1, “Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God’s elect (eklektos G1588) and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness …”
Col 3:12, “Therefore, as the elect (eklektos G1588) of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering …”
1 Pet 1:1-2, “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect (eklektos G1588) according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.”
1 Pet 2:9, “But you are a chosen (eklektos G1588) people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
As believers in Christ Jesus, whether Jew or Gentile, we are called the elect. And in Christ, we will not be deceived.

ICA thank you for your reply. I found it interesting that in Matthew 24:24, it is the prophets and christs that are false, while there is no explicit characterization of the signs and wonders being false. Since (I agree with you here) the elect will not be deceived, the deception of others must be through the miraculous signs and wonders the antichrist does.
But then 2 Thess 2:9 says ” that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,”
Here it is explicitly describing the wonders (and signs I presume) as being “false”. By false, does that mean not really a genuine, supernaturally empowered wonder, or a wonder that is used to deceive? or both? The word for “false” is “psuedos”, which carries with it the meaning of lying, false, untrue, a conscious, intentional falsehood.
I do find it interesting though, that In contrast to Jesus, who authenticated His ministry with abundant miracles that even the Jews of Jesus day did not deny, the embarrassing fact that Muhammad could not and did not do any authenticating miracle will not be repeated in the end times. If the antichrist is associated with or has his origin in Islam, then shouldn’t we expect the adversary to do some major damage control in the end times, his last opportunity to deceive by doing what Jesus did. This would be consistent with satan’s penchant for mimicking what God does.
However, if a specific individual who hates Israel and Christianity, is performing real miraculous signs and wonders while drawing people away from the real, historical Jesus of the Bible, then that would definitely be sufficient evidence that that is the time of the end times apostasy. For now, I think the spirit of antichrist is widespread, and growing.
You make a good case for your view though. Especially for the believing Jew and Christian being the Bride and together the ekklesia assembly.
I will remain agnostic on the signs and wonders issue of Matthew 24:24 and 2 Thess 2:9 for now, but watchful. Thanks and GOD bless bro!

Some of my own thougts:
The purpose of the mark perhaps gives us the best clue of just what the mark may be; in as much that without the mark, no one, no one at all, will be able to buy or sell, to me this very clearly reveals a physical mark, and not in any way an overtly spiritual mark, though taking, or refusing the mark, will reveal a person’s spiritual loyalties, this is not to say the mark itself is spiritual, and not physical.
The mark itself, is a challenge; not accepting the mark, will cause great hardship, not being able to buy, or to have an income; so, no food, no water, no electricity, no heating, no fuel, no health care, for many no home, no ability to do anything at all, nothing!
Satan is the God of this World, and although we can choose to come out of this World, and live in obedience to God, ignoring Satan, this final challenge Satan places upon us, is one that we can not just ignore, for it will deny us, the obedient Christian, everything.
As things are hear in the U.K at the moment, we all have a National Insurance number, a Tax referance, a Health Care number, driving licence number, numbers for services such as electricity, telephone, and of course bank account numbers, bank cards, etc etc etc.
It would be just as easy to give one person, one number, that identifies the person, and that one number becomes the one number used for all situations; my personal number would be my number for my driving licence, Tax referance, National Insurance number, health, services, and banking – one number can do all.
I do believe that the number will be something like a microchip, placed underneath the skin, and as well as for making payments into and out of our accounts, it will probably be able to track our movements as well, and will be promoted as needed for security.
The mark is Satan’s plan to put as much pressure on the Christian as possible, and it is done via Government, the one group that none of us are meant to say no to.
Government in the U.K is changing, and many many people such as Richard Dawkins, David Attenborough, and alike, are doing all they can to undermine God, as they take their stand against Him. Society is changing, sexual unrighteousness is now gaining legal protection, which is a huge shift in society, and it is all a huge challenge to people, children in particular.
On the face of things, Governments may seem fairly innocuous in the U.K, but they have recently proved that they are not innocuous at all. Satan is the god of this World, and so of course Satan finds expression through Governments as a group, as well as other groups, and individuals.
As we speak, we have the false signs and wonders of the Toronto Blessing, testing the love that the Church has for their God, and at some point in time, we will face the challenge of the number of the Beast, that will lead to a terrible challenge with the simple day to day matters of life.
Quite why we are not to take the number, I do not know, but it must mean that in the future, the Goverments (Satan is the God of this World) are going to be so opposed to God, that taking the number will reqiure us in some way, to deny God Himself, and certainly the legal changes to sexual unrighteousness recently, has moved a very long way down that road to taking a stand against God Himself.
It is in fact, the most unrighteous stand any Government in the U.K has made against God, since Christianity first became known to this Country; I think we were in the U.K thought of as being a Godly Nation, but that is no longer the case, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Now, “the literal seal of Christ.” The statement at the beginning of this page, scares me; we all need to know the literal seal of Christ, the PROMISE OF THE FATHER, for this promise, this seal, the wedding clothes, the power of God’s anointing – is our being baptized with God’s Own Holy Spirit, as we are commanded to be, if we are not baptized as we should be, nothing else we do matters!
Upon our baptism, which is always attested to with the precious God GIVEN GIFT of tongues, a literal witness to us; upon such baptism, God’s Own Holy Spirit, Whom once dwelt in the Ark of the Covenant, in the Holy of Holies, unable to be touched, or approached lest we die, now dwells within us – read all of JOHN chs 14/15/16/17/18. ACTS chs 1/2/3/10/11. ROMANS ch 8. MATTHEW ch 3. LUKE ch 12 verses 49 to 53.
But if Christ is not in us, we are none of His, and nothing else we do, will be able to save us, we “must be baptized.” JOHN ch 3.
The word “Christ” means anointing/anointed, The Anointing is The Holy Spirit, received via baptism. Jesus was NOT called The Christ, meaning The Anointed One, until after He was baptized/anointed, by His Father God, with The Holy Spirit, when The Spirit decened upon Him like a dove. The Holy Spirit coming upon Jesus at baptism, revealed Jesus to be The Christ, that is to say The Anointed One of God; it is at the point of our own baptism with The Holy Spirit, that we become (are born-again as) Christians, meaning anointed ones, Jesus The Firstborn, we the many; as with Jesus, it is the baptism that reveals us to be anointed by God, Christian.
The seal of Christ is literal, and if Christ – The Holy Spirit of God – is not in us, we are none of His (do not belong to God).

@ David, thank you for your comments. I have believed for several years now that the mark of the the beast is a spiritual mark. The buying and selling of what I have come to know is the buying and selling of the truth of Jesus and what he taught us in the Bible. Our government has now made it that we cannot speak against the sexual unrighteouness that is taking over. I also believe that the churches are slowing going along with what the government wants us to believe, Churches should be teaching the congregation against the sins that our government is saying is ok. ( I believe this is part of the buying and selling -of how Jesus told us worship him spiritually) God is being taken out of all aspects of our life. The government also tracks us by our debit, credit purchases and these grocery and gas cards that give us savings. I don’t know if a chip or whatever along that line is the physical mark of the beast. I do know within myself that the government is doing everything in it’s power to not let the true believers speak up for what we know in our soul/heart to be pleasing to God. Many people seem to be going to sleep spiritually because our government is telling them what to believe or what is best for them. Your comment about Satan being the God of this world so true !

Hello Renae.
I cannot take credit for saying that Satan, or the Devil, to give him his proper name, is the father of this World, as it is of course Scripture.
One thing that concerns me more than anything else at all Renae, is LUKE 12 v 49 – 53, and especially verse 50, when Jesus said – “But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished!”
Take a look at MATTHEW 3 all of it, especially verse11, now look at JOHN 3 verse 1 to 21, now ACTS 1 v 4 to 8, ACTS 2 all, ACTS 10 all, ACTS 19 v 1 to 6. JOHN 14 v 15 to 24. Now read ROMANS 8 v 1 to 17. Now read 1 JOHN 4 v 13.
Renae, if you look at LUKE 12 v 50 again, and now read JOHN 16 v 6 to 7, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” LUKE 12 v 50, “…..and how distressed I am till it is accomplished.” ACTS 1 v 4 to 8. MATTHEW 3 v 11. ACTS 2 all.
LUKE 12 v 51 to 53. see MARK 16 v 16. LUKE 7 v 29 to 30.
Jesus was not called The Christ, meaning The Anointed One, until after His baptism with The Holy Spirit, that came upon Him like a dove, that is because it was the baptism with His Father’s Own Holy Spirit, that revealed Jesus to be The Anointed Son of God, The Christ.
It is true of us also, that until we are baptized, we are not Christian, meaning anointed; once we are baptized with The Holy Spirit, via the laying on of hands by an already baptized person, attested to with the gift of tongues, we too are then anointed with God’s Own Holy Spirit, or in other words – “Christian,” meaning anointed.
“I have a baptism to be baptized with…..” Jesus had already been baptized with both water, and with The Holy Spirit, I hope that from using the Scriptures I have, we can see that Jesus is saying here, I have a baptism for – you – to be baptized with, and Jesus had to be crucified, to gain for us the GIFT of GRACE, that would make it possible for us to be baptized with The Holy Spirit, and Jesus, in distress, pushed on faithfully, to accomplish what His Father sent Him to accomplish.
“I have a baptism to be baptized with…….” “He will baptize you with The Holy Spirit and fire.”
“But if The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
And if not? “Now if anyone does not have The Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”
“Sealed with The promise of The Father.”
The mark of Christ.
As for the mark of the Beast being a spiritual mark Renae, would this not mean that all who do not accept the witness of Jesus (do not believe), already bear the mark of the Beast, and yet we are told that everyone will be required to take the mark of the Beast, both believer, and unbeliever.
It will all become clearer as that day approaches.
When thinking about this subject, I was thinking about the Devil tempting Jesus in the wilderness – the challenge of not being able to buy or sell – unless – “All these things I will give You if You fall down and worship me.” MATTHEW 4 v 1 to 10.
Renae, I was just thinking as I wrote out that piece of Scripture, how similar it all sounds, to hear something so similar, from those churches that would tell us how God would make us all rich, with money, possessions, and power, if we would bow down to them, and their doctrines, and of course, give them our money, along with our love, and
loyalty.
It is difficult times we live in, very dangerous times, of great confusion.

David, The tongues mentioned in the New Testament were undoubtedly known languages, not ecstatic utterances as practiced by some in today’s churches. See Acts 2:6 where the Greek word (dialektos) meaning dialect is used. Also note verses 8 and 11 where it is evident that they were speaking real words understood by the listeners. The Holy Spirit gave the apostles supernatural ability to speak in languages that they had not previously known an obvious miracle!
if you look in the book of Acts, tongues were always spoken in the presence of unbelieving Jews. It was a sign gift, directed at Jews until the Jewish temple was destroyed in 70AD, at which time the sign gift of tongues ceased.
The purpose of this gift is clearly stated in Scripture. It was given by God as a sign for the
rebellious, disobedient nation of Israel. I Cor. 14:20-22 says
“Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however in malice be babes, but in
understanding be mature. In the law it is written (Isa. 28:11-12) with men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people (the Jews); And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,says the Lord.”
Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying (preaching) is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
Also the next verse (vs. 23) specifically teaches that Biblical tongues were not for
uninformed (unlearned) unbelievers; that is, tongues were not for Gentiles who were unacquainted with these Jewish prophecies and would have no understanding of this phenomenon.
In the time when the New Testament was being written God was appealing to the nation of
Israel and demonstrating to them, through signs and miracles, that His spokesmen were
legitimate (see Heb. 2:3-4, and I Cor. 1:22). However, they adamantly rejected the message of the Apostles and persecuted the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore God definitively judged the nation (in A.D. 70) by allowing the Roman General Titus to destroy much of Jerusalem and to so devastate its temple that the precise location of the sanctuary is still unknown today.
This judgment was predicted by Jesus Himself and also spoken of in the Old Testament (see Matt.24:1-2, Luke 21:20-24, and Dan. 9:27). At that time the Jewish people were dispersed all over the world – there are more Jews in New York and Philadelphia today than in Israel – as Jerusalem was trampled by the Gentiles (Luke 21:24).
Therefore the sign gift of tongues was no longer needed by God to speak to the nation of Israel! This is in accord with the Biblical prediction that tongues will cease (I Cor. 13:8). It is interesting to note that no occurrence of tongues is recorded in church history after the writing of the New Testament.
The only mention of this gift in the New Testament epistles is found in the book of First
Corinthians, where the carnal Corinthian believers were using a counterfeit gift of ecstatic
utterance carried over from their pagan religious background (see I Cor 12:2). Ecstatic utterance or speaking in an unknown tongue for self-edification was practiced in the pagan mystery religions of Dionysus (the god of wine),
Apollo and probably in the worship of the goddess Cybele all familiar to the Corinthians of the first century. The expression of the ecstatic state took various forms, such as gashing one’s flesh, dancing nude in a frenzy, and speaking in ecstatic utterance. The latter was the means whereby the devotees sought to have communion with the saving deity
.
At Corinth, Paul had to correct their misuse of the gift (see I Cor. 14:2) and explain the true purpose of the gift (I Cor. 14:20-22). Incidentally, no prayer recorded in the Bible is ever expressed in ecstatic utterance; and nothing is needed to edify the believer other than the word of God itself (Acts 20:32, John 17:17).
For these reasons it is very clear that any manifestation of tongues today is totally out of accord with the New Testament doctrine. It could not fit either the nature or the purpose of this gift as stated in the Scriptures. Therefore any tongues being spoken today are
not authentic and speaking in tongues cannot be regarded as a legitimate
spiritual gift for today.

I agree with you, Mike. I was debating how to respond to David, and I can’t find anything to add. Except the verse in Luke chapter 12 verse 50 does not refer to a baptism of the Holy Spirit. Christ had been baptised prior to this verse, and it’s content. Christ was actually revealed as the Christ during the transfiguration on the mount in Mathew 17, when Moses and Elijah appeared. Christ instructed them at that time not to tell anyone until the Son Of Man was raised from the dead. If you read the verses before and after,Luke 12:50, you’ll see that Christ was speaking of a baptism of fire that He was to bring to the Earth. He wished it was already kindled, but knew what He would have to endure first. Not to debate or attack, just wanted to point out these differences. Praying for knowledge, wisdom and guidance for us all.

Iamnotashamedofthegospelofchrist yes, and thanks for the added clarification on the baptism. Hey nobody has it all right all the time, but in this day and age of increasing spiritual deception, we need to be very careful about what to believe. Just as there were false tongues being practiced in pagan Corinth, so there are also false tongues today even within the assembly today. Satan seems to have an evil counterfeit for everything God has meant for good.
I know from personal experience that tongues are false, because I was once a tongue talker who knowingly made up, fabricated, self-manifested false tongues out of peer pressure to others. Yes, I had capitulated to the false teaching that I had to speak in tongues as evidence of the baptism of the Spirit. I thank God for being set free from that legalistic bondage and to this day am eager to share with others along life’s way that they too can be set free from that doctrine of demons.
Since David is so eager to share this false teaching, I am highly skeptical about everything else he has posted.

While I agree that tongues was originally actual earthly languages spoken by people who did not ordinarily speak those languages…I question why that gift would stop today when so many people of other cultures and languages would benefit from it…Also how do you reconcile what you are saying to the scripture that says that when someone speaks in tongues, he speaks not to man, but to angels, and groanings that cannot be uttered, with what you said about ecstatic utterances? though I agree that most of what is called tongues today is just emotional mob mentality and pressure to go along with everyone else. Does anyone else besides me wonder why there is so much contradiction in the bible, and why would God want so much difficulty and confusion regarding it ???

The gift of tongues did not stop today. It stopped at AD70. Paul said tongues-speaking was not to be forbidden (I Cor. 14:39) because he knew it would be relevant to Jewish unbelievers at least until A.D. 70, when Jerusalem would be
destroyed and the Jews dispersed.
Regarding Romans 8:26 use of the phrase “groanings that cannot be uttered”, This has been used (or rather abused) as an attempt to justify glossolalia as if it is some kind of secret (but audible)”prayer language” between the person and God.
Please notice that the groaning of Romans 8:26 is done by the Holy Spirit, not believers, and is not stated in words. The help the Spirit gives (Rom_8:26) is His interceding. “Intercedes” translates “hyperentynchanei”, which occurs only here in the New Testament; it means “approaches or appeals” to someone. For tongue-talkers to take Roman 8:26 and make make groanings that cannot be uttered into an audible (uttered) secret prayer language for our self-edification is not only unsupported by the text, it makes Paul out to be a liar.
It was reported to him that carnal Christians in Corinth were seeking to edify themselves (see I Cor. 12:31), whereas spiritual gifts were given for edification of others, not
oneself. First Corinthians 14 shows that the Corinthians were using a counterfeit of tongues, namely, ecstatic utterances practiced in the mystery (secret) religions of that day. So we can see that Paul was early on correcting the immature Corinthian believers of their abuse of speaking tongues like the local pagans were speaking, instead of in the presence of a Jewish person like the historical record of Acts describes.
Remember, tongues were given not for believers, but as a sign of judgment on Israel (I Cor. 14:22), and as a confirmation that the message of the gospel was from God (II Cor. 12:12; Heb. 2:4).Paul taught against self-edification with tongues. The Corinthian epistles were letters of correction, not support for tongues as a self-edifying work.

No offense, but you missed my point completely, I meant why did it stop at all, when it is just as useful today, To hear this explanation is to believe the gift was only to convert the jews and no one else. And where is biblical support for AD 70 ? And explain the purpose of a gift to be a sign of judgment ???why not a sign to inspire belief, and of what use was it since it didn’t work ? See what I mean about confusing contradictory messages throughout the bible ??? Does anyone see how many interpretations there are of these theologies ? And I am not supporting the random “Tongues” churches get caught up in, I am pointing out that all the bible does is get people arguing over theologies and interpretations, Man interpreted these scriptures, to believe they are all correctly translated and infallible over all these centuries is to be naive or to put your head in the sand…I just don’t feel God is the author or supporter of all this confusion and division…and please don’t argue the point with me…there’s nothing you are going to say that I haven’t heard..Im just making my point, take from it what you will. I Love God, but Im not sure any of this was his intention. Religion is not God and God is not religion. There have been throughout centuries and still today, hundreds of lands and cultures that know nothing of the bible or any formal religion… they have lived and died this way..I just don’t believe any of them went to “hell” because of it. And if you say, well God judged them on their own merits and integrity, well if that’s the case, that would be good enough for all of us..sometimes people like this have the most perfect and innocent relationship with God because it is by the inner knowing of the true spirit and soul of the person, and their connection to the source of al spirit, and not based on the manipulations of man..I’ve said my peace…love to all

Hi Anne, thank you for your reply. Yes, I certainly will argue the point, because Christians are commanded to judge not by our feelings, but righteously (John 7:24) and we are also commanded to not participate in what is evil, but to expose it (Eph 5:11).
You asked what was the purpose of tongues? It was given by God as a sign for the
rebellious, disobedient nation of Israel. I Cor. 14:20-22 says,
Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however in malice be babes, but in
understanding be mature. In the law it is written (Isa. 28:11-12):with men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people (the Jews) ; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me says the Lord. Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying (preaching) is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
Also the next verse (vs. 23) specifically teaches that Biblical tongues were not for
uninformed (unlearned) unbelievers ; that is, tongues were not for Gentiles who were unacquainted with these Jewish prophecies and would have no understanding of this
phenomenon. Note that in the book of Acts there were always Jews present when tongues were spoken.
I already told you why tongues stopped at AD70. In the time when the New Testament was being written God was appealing to the nation of Israel and demonstrating to them, through signs and miracles, that His spokesmen were legitimate (see Heb.
This judgment was predicted by Jesus Himself and also spoken of in the Old Testament (see Matt. 24:1-2, Luke 21:20-24, and Dan. 9:27). At that time the Jewish people were dispersed all over the world – there are more Jews in New York and Philadelphia today than in Israel – as Jerusalem was trampled by the Gentiles (Luke 21:24).
Therefore the sign gift of tongues was no longer needed by God to speak to the nation of Israel. This is in accord with the Biblical prediction that tongues will cease (I Cor. 13:8). It is interesting to note that no occurrence of tongues is recorded in church history after the writing of the New Testament.
You asked “Why not a sign to inspire belief?” I just showed that tongues were a sign to inspire belief, directed at Jews. Why not a sign to inspire belief today? Because Jesus’ resurrection is sufficient a miracle for all to believe, including Jews dispersed throughout the world and even in Israel to this day.
I understand that this is not what you want to read, and that it may hurt your feelings to think that God had only a specific purpose for tongues, not for your own edification but for a sign for Israel. God is sovereign. He does not act according to how we feel He should. You probably have tongue talking Christian friends who are very Godly, sincere and Spirit led. This is not an attack on Christians. It is an attack on a false doctrine.

It was by mistake that I typed that I would contend with you Mike, I meant to type that I would NOT contend with you, though I could, and perhaps I should, using Scripture of course.
I have spent years trying to contend for the truth Mike, and it has been a difficult, and painful road, and is wearing me out – “work out your own salvation,” your life, is your resposibility Mike, I am not held responsible by God to say any more to you, just to be torn appart by your comments.
I have written all that I have with no ill will, thanks again Mike for your loving comment – oops on your part. “He who rejects you, rejects Me,” we must be careful when we accuse others, for if anything Scriptually true and accurate has been said, then it is actually God that you are accusing, as it is His Word, not mine.

I have tried to stay mainly silent, while reading everything. But I can not remain silent in this case. You sir are no one to tell me or anyone else who disagrees with your interpretation of scripture that our salvation does not count, and we will be lost. I don’t have a problem with you speaking in tongues if that is what you believe. Just be aware that there are many spirits out there, and unless you have an interpreter you can not speak anything in tongues. Where, show me where in the Bible does it say that if you don’t speak in tongues you will go to hell. Where in the Bible does it say that in order to be saved you have to have hands layed on you by someone who has spoken in tongues. Show me! I have been baptized with the Holy Spirit & he is here with me now. I have never spoken in tongues, and don’t expect to. There are many gifts of God. There is only one body, many parts, my gift is not tongues, my gift is discernment. And if we can’t work together as one body The Body Of Christ, then we must part. I pray for you, it’s time for Christians to stop all this nonsense of arguing over doctrine. We need to come together. But if that can’t be done, than part ways, no one here, not mike or myself or anyone else said to you “You would go to hell or be lost, or couldn’t be saved if you spoke in tongues. And I don’t wish to debate further with you, but I do want to see the scripture that say’s you can’t be saved unless someone who has spoken in tongues lays hands on you. I realize things are bad all over and Christians are coming under attack from every angle, but it just show’s the very people we’re trying to save, that we don’t know what we’re talking about because we can’t agree on anything. So I will be on my knees praying for knowledge, wisdom, guidance for all, time is short. Maranatha.

David, you said…
“It is true of us also, that until we are baptized, we are not Christian, meaning anointed; once we are baptized with The Holy Spirit, via the laying on of hands by an already baptized person, attested to with the gift of tongues, we too are then anointed with God’s Own Holy Spirit, or in other words – “Christian,” meaning anointed.”
Those are your own words, Nowhere does it say in the Bible that a person who does not speak in tongues is not born again, not saved, not forgiven. Remember, the man on the cross next to Jesus had not had hands layed on him, was not baptized by immersion and was not speaking in tongues, yet Jesus said “Today you will be with Me, in paradise”.
David, like the penitent thief on the cross, only by divine grace can Jesus can set you free from the slavery of bondage to religious legalism. Please re-assess your position on tongues. God bless you.
I would just emphasize again how important it is to be spiritually discerning. These are dark times, and they will get darker. The last days are characterized by spiritual deception. Even Jesus warned (Matt 24:4) “See to it that no one misleads you”. The last days are also characterized by deception in 2 Thess 2:3, where Paul also warns about spiritual deception resulting in mass apostasy.
Some people believe that apostasy is already upon us. With all the whacked doctrines and teachings and practices in the western church and the spread of spiritual apathy among Christians while Islam continues its inexorable spread and influence, I am beginning to come into agreement on that.
1 Thess 5:21-22 “Examine all things carefully. Hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil”

If you would like to know a little more about myself Mike, can an I point you to a site called – “The lie that is the christian deliverance ministry” Wolves Bane.
May I please point out to you Mike, it was you, and you alone, that decided to make up tongues; and that is to your shame, and no one elses – God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear – your fault, and yours alone!
I did NOT receive the GOD GIVEN GIFT AND THEREFORE ATTESTING SIGN OF TONGUES, when I was baptized with The Holy Spirit, but I did not let the fact cause me to make up something as you said you did Mike, I was determined not to do that!!!!!
I received the GOD GIVEN GIFT OF TONGUES, as I sat alone, in my car, in the countryside, with no one around me, one evening, as I prayed in tears to God, asking for the GIFT, for I would not accept that my baptism with The Holy Spirit, was as it should have been, and not somehow in error, without it being attested to with The GOD GIVEN WITNESS of Tongues; as it happens Mike, I was able to see the words, as I sat with my eyes closed, it was like a tic-a-tape of words passing my eyes, in a language that I did not recognize, and I am still unaware of the language that I speak, when I speak in tongues. As I saw the words, I wondered if it was as a result of my prayer, and I tried to speak in tongues, and I was able to, some twelve weeks after my baptism with God’s Holy Spirit.
I hope you have not shipwrecked your faith Mike, by railing against God.
I know many people, lay ministers also, who find great comfort in God’s Word, yet refuse to be baptized, do not believe in the virgin birth, do not believe in the resurrection, or hell, any many other things, but do believe they are christians, do believe they are saved, and pretty darn fine people in general, who mock speaking in tongues, even think it to be evil, and say so, as they attened their places of worship – everyone finds great comfort from Scripture, even those to whom God will say I never knew you. Tongues, is still a witness to these unbelieveing people Mike, it just happens to be a witnes they do not wish to accept.
Tongues will cease Mike, and its witness will no longer be needed, and it will be when Jesus returns, but until then, tongues remains the GOD GIVEN WITNESS it was given to be, and as well as being a witness to others, it is also a witness to the speaker – no man can receive anything unless it is given to him/her, by The Father.
Can tongues be faked, I was not sure Mike, but you said you faked yours, so I guess it can be.
Paul had to correct those in Corinth, because they were vying with eachother, boasting, bragging, not because their gifts of tongues was false, but because there behaviour was insincere, as with you Mike, when you made up a tongue, rather than trusting in God. Did your faking the gift of tongues rubbish the gift that those around you had Mike? No one I know, has ever faked tongues to my knowledge.
I heard yesterday, that around one hundred languages a year, are being lost; how could we ever say whether a tongue is genuine or not? Thanks to God, we have His Word, Scripture, and The Holy Spirit will never speak a message of His Own, Scripture is our Teacher, The Word of God, and can, using Scripture, weigh everything.
You made it up Mike, I know of no one else who has; there are perhaps many, but are you the right person to judge them, when you behaved falsely, insecere before God? And at the most important time of your life – baptism.

There are many, many churchs here today that instruct their worshipers to utter groans, and chants as a way to speak in tongues. They are even taught to pray this way. Many don’t even know what they are doing. Many televangelists are doing the same thing. I asked someone who said they prayed in tongues how they do it, and they said the same thing, the groan, and make noise, etc, and say this is a language from God. I say it’s not. I say how can you be sure your speaking to God and not Satan. Just sayin…. But many people have fallen for this, because they want some kind of supernatural experience and that is very dangerous, and Kudos to Mike for finding out the truth.
