Muslim American Society Official Calls Bin Laden a ‘Visionary’

“A leader of a major American Muslim organization, the Muslim American Society (MAS), is arguing that there ‘was nothing wrong with’ Osama bin Laden’s dream of creating a renewed Caliphate. Khalilah Sabra’s comments are the most recent and worrisome from the group, which has a long history of defending alleged terrorists.

Sabra, the director of the North Carolina branch of MAS’ Freedom Foundation, made the statement in a sometimes disjointed article entitled ‘Agreeing to Disagree About the Death of Osama Bin Laden’ that was released Wednesday under the MAS logo. The statement aligns more with a period of Sabra’s life in the late 1980s, when she traveled to Afghanistan with bin Laden’s predecessor, Abdullah Azzam, to provide aid to the mujahideen fighting the Soviet Union.”  Read more.

“ABUJA, NIGERIA (BosNewsLife)– Christians in northern Nigeria were mourning Saturday, May 7, after Muslim attackers reportedly killed 17 Christians, including the wife and three children of a pastor. Several Christian homes were also burned in the village of Kurum in Nigeria’s tense Bauchi State, said advocacy group International Christian Concern (ICC).

ICC told BosNewsLife that it learned about the massacre Friday, May 6. ‘It is not right for anyone to kill another person, life is precious and a gift from God,’ explained ICC’s Regional Manager for Africa, Jonathan Racho. No more details were immediately available, but the attack was the latest in a series of recent incidents in which hundreds of people died.”  Read more.

Young and Old Rush to Fill Sandbags as Four MILLION People Face Record-Breaking Floods Sweeping the Mississippi Delta

  • Thousands already evacuated across region from Illinois to Louisiana
  • The flood water is expected to break an 84-year record of 48 feet
  • Prisoners fill 120,000 sandbags as worried residents closely watch levels
  • Could still be two weeks before some of the most severe flooding hits
  • Aftermath could last for weeks as it may be June before areas dry out

Memphis residents of all ages and races are pitching in to fill sandbags in a desperate last-ditch attempt to ward off flood waters as the Mississippi River threatens millions of homes.

More than four million people living in 63 counties close to the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers from Illinois to the Gulf of Mexico could be affected by flooding in the coming days.

Communities all along the banks of the Mississippi have been carefully watching the river rise, like a giant bathtub filling up with water.

Record river levels, some dating as far back as the 1920s, were expected to be broken in some parts along the river. In Memphis, the river was expected to crest at 48 feet on Wednesday, just shy of the 48.7-foot record from the devastating flood of 1937.”  Read more.

More Frequent Whale Strandings Has Experts on Edge

By Jaymi Heimbuch – “In the last few years, there has been an unexplained spike in the number of whales washing ashore. While the National Marine Fisheries Service has declared an Unusual Mortality Event (UME) in the Northern Gulf of Mexico, it’s more than just oil spills that are causing increased strandings worldwide. And experts are worried.

The numbers of beached whales have been gradually rising, peaking in 2009 with 46 whales coming ashore, and The Department of Environment and Conservation is conducting an investigation into what could be causing the rise, reports ABC news.

It could be anything from nutrition issues to sonar that drives whales off course, disorients them, or can even cause internal damage. While there has been a rash of strandings in Florida, including at least 15 pilot whales that washed ashore this week in the Florida keys, experts are quick to point out that the BP gulf oil spill is a possible cause, but not the only factor.”  Read more.
