TIME: Was Fukushima a China Syndrome?

While a molten reactor core wouldn’t burn ‘all the way through to China’ it could enter the soil and water table and cause huge contamination in the crops and drinking water around the power plant. ‘A World Without America’: Iran Building Rocket Bases in Venezuela to be Used Against ‘Iran’s Enemies’
Today the United Nations is reporting that Iran — a state sponsor of terrorism — has been working with North Korea on ballistic missile technology (and who knows what else) with shipments taking place through China. Now, either China is chronically inept at securing and inspecting large shipments passing through its borders, or they are willingly ignorant about what is taking place in their own back yard. All of this, of course, while Iran laughs at the West and forges ahead with its nuclear program (aided by Russia and possibly others), repeatedly boasts about the ‘attainable’ vision of a world without Israel and America, and continues to prophetize about the soon coming of the ‘divinely appointed Islamic savior’ of mankind that will force the world into Islamic submission. And now Iran is building rocket bases in Venezuela to be used against its enemies? Where next, Cuba? Seems to me like the Iranians are doing as much as they can now, and as fast as they can, while the Office of the Presidency and American leadership is still controlled by eunuchs those who continue to believe that diplomacy is the answer …

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is Teheran’s most important South American ally.
Iran is building intermediate- range missile launch pads on the Paraguaná Peninsula, and engineers from a construction firm – Khatam al-Anbia – owned by the Revolutionary Guards visited Paraguaná in February. Amir al-Hadschisadeh, the head of the Guard’s Air Force, participated in the visit, according to the report. Die Welt cited information from ‘Western security insiders.’
… According to Die Welt, the clandestine agreement between Venezuela and Iran would mean the Chavez government would fire rocket at Iran’s enemies should the Islamic Republic face military strikes.” Read more.
Ahmadinejad Envisions ‘A World Without America’ – “The country that is probably the most dangerous current sponsor of terrorism–Iran—is also pursuing a nuclear capacity, and may well harbor an intention to use it against both the US and Israel. Iranian President Ahmadinejad envisions ‘a world without America.’ … Iran could launch rockets to detonate a nuclear warhead some 70 miles above the earth’s surface. This would create an electromagnetic pulse (EMP)… [which] could effectively shut down wide swaths of the US economy. Millions would perish in a short period.” Read more.
Iran, North Korea Partnering on Ballistic Missiles, U.N. Says – “Iran and North Korea seem to routinely be swapping ballistic missile equipment in breach of U.N. Security Council directives, a classified expert report to the international body stated on Friday. Illegal trades of missile technology had ‘transshipment through a neighboring third country,’ the report states. Multiple envoys told Reuters the nation in question is China.” Read more.
Iran trains terrorists in Venezuela, hides behind mercenaries – “Al-Seyassah has published reports about Iranian training camps on the border between Venezuela and Colombia, where Shiites from the Arab world are taught to make bombs, carry out assassinations, kidnap people and transport hostages to other locations. These training camps are run by Iranian Revolutionary Guards in cooperation with Hezbollah and Hamas.” Read more.

‘His Head Almost Completely Cut Off’ – Iraqi Christian Kidnapped by Iraqi Insurgents and Killed
“KIRKUK, Iraq — Iraqi insurgents killed and mutilated a Christian construction worker whom they had kidnapped over the weekend and demanded $100,000 in ransom for, police and medical officials said on Monday.
Ashur Issa Yaqub, a 29-year-old Chaldean Christian, had been snatched on Saturday in the oil-rich ethnically-mixed northern city of Kirkuk, and is survived by his wife and three children.
‘A police patrol found the body of the young Christian man, his head was almost completely cut off,’ said Kirkuk provincial police chief Major General Jamal Taher Bakr, adding that he believed Al-Qaeda insurgents were behind the gruesome killing.” Read more.
Mainstream Media’s Mea Culpa: Arab Spring or Nuclear Winter?

Israeli Doctor Saves Life of 4 Month Old Palestinian Boy, Mother Then Says She Would Be Proud if He Grew Up to be a Suicide Bomber

By Graeme Hamilton – “MONTREAL — Raz Somech, director of immunology at Israel’s largest pediatric hospital, is trained to save children’s lives. But in the Middle East, even a heroic struggle to keep a baby alive can become entangled in the region’s politics.
The documentary Precious Life has turned the unassuming Dr. Somech into a celebrity with its portrayal of his effort to save a Palestinian baby born without an immune system. On Monday night he will be the star attraction at a screening of the film in Montreal as part of the Israel Film Festival.
His unexpected fame began with an action that to him was simply his duty as a physician. A sickly four-month-old Mohammed Abu Mustafa had arrived at the emergency room from Gaza. ‘It was very easy to diagnose him as having a severe type of immunodeficiency,’ Dr. Somech said in an interview. The same genetic condition had already claimed the lives of two of Mohammed’s sisters, and without a costly bone marrow transplant, it was unlikely he would survive beyond his first birthday.
… And even after the funding has been secured and the transplant performed, Mohammed’s mother, Raida, makes a statement that calls into question all the efforts to save his life.
As she and the filmmaker, Israeli TV reporter Shlomi Eldar, discuss the status of Jerusalem, Raida says she would be proud to see her son grow up to be a suicide bomber. ‘Even the smallest infant, younger than Mohammed, to the oldest person, we’ll all sacrifice ourselves for Jerusalem,’ she says. Asked by a dumbfounded Mr. Eldar whether she would let Mohammed become a shahid, or martyr, if he recovers, she replies, ‘Absolutely. If it’s for the sake of Jerusalem, I would.’ Life, she says, is not precious.” Read more.
Second Wave of Mystery Pelican Deaths Hits Topsail Beach, North Carolina
“(WASHINGTON D.C.) – A second wave of mysterious pelican injuries and deaths has occurred in the past several weeks at Topsail Island in North Carolina following earlier incidents about six months ago in which about 250 pelicans died as a result of still undetermined causes.
Necropsies in the fall of 2010 performed at the University of Georgia on the first group of Brown Pelicans were inconclusive as to cause of injury though there was no evidence of toxicological causes such as poisons. The newly found birds have also been sent to the university for analysis.
This recent incident involves about 30 pelicans that washed up on the shores either dead or so badly injured that they had to be euthanized. In an interview with WNCT-TV, Toni O’Neil of the Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary commented on the injuries to one bird ‘… [it] looks like a bomb has gone off in the wing. It’s that shattered and smashed so completely’.” Read more.
Dead Sharks Found on California Shores Suffered from Internal Bleeding, Necropsy Shows
By Bonnie Eslinger – “Officials have completed a necropsy on one of the dozens of leopard sharks found dead in Redwood Shores last month but aren’t any closer to pinpointing the cause of the sudden die-off.
The necropsy performed by a California Department of Fish and Game pathologist found “inflammation, bleeding, and lesions in the brain, and hemorrhaging from the skin near vents.” Bleeding was also detected around the female shark’s internal organs.
Additional tests, such as a bacterial study and microscopic tissue analysis, may provide an answer, according to a statement released by Redwood City. Results could be available by the end of the week.
‘The … pathologist is not drawing any conclusions until more examinations and all tests are performed,’ the statement said.
About 50 leopard sharks have been found dead in Redwood Shores since mid-April, according to the city.” Read more.
Dead Fish In Lake Erie: Thousands Of Walleye Mysteriously Die
“TOLEDO, Ohio — Wildlife researchers want to know what’s killing thousands of walleye in Lake Erie that have been washing up on beaches along its western shore.
It’s a big concern for anglers who come from across the Midwest and beyond to catch the lake’s most popular sport fish.
The best guess is that the die-off can be blamed on natural causes stemming from the stress of spawning and the cold, stormy spring, said Roger Knight, Lake Erie fisheries program manager for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
‘It all kind of fits that picture,’ he said.” Read more.
Japan Government Raises Alert Level for Erupting Mount Aso to 2+
“KUMAMOTO, Japan, May 16 (AP) – (Kyodo)—The Japan Meteorological Agency raised the volcanic activity-related alert level Monday for Mt. Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture from 1 to 2, prompting local authorities to ban entry to areas within 1 kilometer of the crater of Mt. Naka, one of five peaks in the active volcano’s central cone group.
Volcanic rocks could be launched from Mt. Naka to within the off-limit areas.
The move came after the belch of a small amount of volcanic ash and a small eruption were observed at the mountain on Friday and Sunday, respectively. On Monday, a small eruption and some 500-meter high volcanic smoke were observed at around 10 a.m.” Source.
Uganda Braces for Possible Deadly Ebola Outbreak
“REUTERS – The rare and deadly Ebola virus has killed a 12-year-old Ugandan girl, and health officials said on Saturday they expected more cases.
The girl from Luwero district, 75 km (45 miles) north of the capital Kampala, died on May 6, said Anthony Mbonye, the government’s commissioner for community health, in the first outbreak of the virus in Uganda in four years.
‘Laboratory investigations have confirmed Ebola to be the primary cause of the illness and death. So there is one case reported but we expect other cases,’ he said.
‘Just one case is considered an epidemic because it can spread quickly and it is highly fatal.’
The last time Uganda was hit by Ebola—a disease in which those infected often bleed to death—it killed 37 people.” Read more.
Richard Dawkins Accused of Cowardice for Refusing to Debate William Lane Craig
Come on Dawkins, quit making excuses. What are you afraid of?
By Tim Ross – “Richard Dawkins has made his name as the scourge of organised religion who branded the Roman Catholic Church ‘evil’ and once called the Pope ‘a leering old villain in a frock’. But he now stands accused of ‘cowardice’ after refusing four invitations to debate the existence of God with a renowned Christian philosopher.
A war of words has broken out between the best selling author of The God Delusion, and his critics, who see his refusal to take on the American academic, William Lane Craig, as a ‘glaring’ failure and a sign that he may be losing his nerve.
Prof Dawkins maintains that Prof Craig is not a figure worthy of his attention and has reportedly said that such a contest would ‘look good’ on his opponent’s CV but not on his own…
Prof Craig is a research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology, in California, and the author of 30 books and hundreds of scholarly articles on Christianity.
He has debated with leading thinkers including Daniel Dennett, A.C.Grayling, Christopher Hitchens, Lewis Wolpert and Sam Harris.
Prof Craig is due to visit Britain in October this year. Four invitations to take part in public debates were sent to Prof Dawkins from The British Humanist Association, The Cambridge Debating Union, the Oxford Christian Union and Premier Radio.
