TEPCO Officially Admits Nuclear Meltdown at Fukushima Plant

05/12/2011 Leave a comment

By Julian Ryall – “Engineers from the Tokyo Electric Power company (Tepco) entered the No.1 reactor at the end of last week for the first time and saw the top five feet or so of the core’s 13ft-long fuel rods had been exposed to the air and melted down.

Previously, Tepco believed that the core of the reactor was submerged in enough water to keep it stable and that only 55 per cent of the core had been damaged.

Now the company is worried that the molten pool of radioactive fuel may have burned a hole through the bottom of the containment vessel, causing water to leak.

‘We will have to revise our plans,’ said Junichi Matsumoto, a spokesman for Tepco. ‘We cannot deny the possibility that a hole in the pressure vessel caused water to leak’.” Read more.

TEPCO admits nuclear meltdown occurred at Fukushima reactor 16 hours after quake – “According to TEPCO, the operator of the crippled nuclear power plant, the emergency condenser designed to cool the steam inside the pressure vessel of the No. 1 reactor was working properly shortly after the magnitude-9.0 earthquake, but it lost its functions around 3:30 p.m. on March 11 when tsunami waves hit the reactor.” Read more.

‘Liberated’ by American Forces, a New and Improved Afghanistan Teaches Children How to Hate the West

By Stan Grant, CNN – “Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) — The Muslim call to prayer echoes through a poor neighborhood, stirring the faithful. Men shuffle into a tiny mud-and-straw-brick mosque nestled among houses down a dirt lane.

And they bring their sons, clutching tattered copies of the Quran, for lessons in hate at a religious school in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital…

The message of faith and God is mixed with a hatred of anything outside their own world. The boys have been raised on a steady diet of anti-western propaganda. They are taught to fear outsiders and reject anything but the strict teachings of Islam…

Do you like the United States I ask? There is a resounding ‘No!’

Do you want them to leave? ‘Yes!’ they yell. ‘We want our country to be peaceful. They are the devil.'”  Read more.

Islamic Apologist Farhan Qureshi Renounces Islam

05/12/2011 Leave a comment

By Farhan Qureshi – “As a Muslim apologist I remember debating at numerous types of venues including Mosques, Churches, Universities, Convention Halls and Libraries. Having engaged with notable Christian apologists such as Dr. James White, Dr. Tony Costa and Professor David Wood I learned that the purpose of apologetics was not confrontation rather to come to an understanding of truth even if it meant evolving one’s own perspective, writes erstwhile Dawwah debater Farhan Qureshi. After years of having been involved in think tanks, advocacy groups, da’wah (invitation or propagation) initiatives and academic apologetics as a Muslim, I have I decided to evolve my perspective of reality and existence as knowledge has reached me and renounce my faith in Islam. This was a thought out decision that took months of prayer, consideration, evaluation and knowledge-seeking on my part. Every bit as it has been a search for meaning and truth is has been a grieving process for me to realize that what I have been attached to all of these years is in fact not the ultimate reality behind our existence. Nevertheless it is simultaneously liberation and continued enlightenment that brings about serenity and peace of mind for me as well.

In the coming months I plan to contribute articles to FFI which explore the behavior and psyche of the different types of Muslims out there: the western Muslim, the mystic (Sufi), the purist (Salafi), and the politically driven (Hizb/Ikhwan) are among the many colors of the Ummah, each having its own set of advocates with unique behaviors and mentality. I have spent time and energy studying and experiencing the different denominations and sub-cultures within the Ummah. Having experienced their spirituality and religiosity first hand, having studied with their scholars and preachers, and having read books, articles and arguments from them, I believe that I have a grasp of where they stand psychologically and I plan to explore this more in-depth in the near future as I publish articles.

I realized that 1400 years worth of consistent Islamiyya theology is not what I believed was the ultimate truth, rather I realized that it was a primitive attempt at understanding and implementing social, spiritual, religious and ethical standards. These seventh century standards might give slight insight into how humanity, and in this case, Arab civilization was evolving and progressing from its previous ‘jahiliyya’ or ignorance, and yet effectively became stagnant with its own set of conservative traditionalism that would not allow Arab civilization to move forward. The only attempts at progression were the rationalist Mu’tazilites of the eight century which gave rise to what many observe as the Golden Age of Islam. Yet these rationalists were viewed as heretics and apostates themselves and would become extinct by the thirteenth century. Instead dogmatic traditionalism or Sunnah would thrive in the Muslim world and the European Renaissance with its progressive attitude would pick up where the all but extinct Middle Eastern rationalists left off.

Perhaps the most important realization I have come to is that I would receive the death penalty underShariah law for simply coming to these conclusions or realizations. This disturbs me to the core and demonstrates how the Ummah uses fear tactics under its Shariah system in order to preserve and strengthen their theological and political agenda. What I am grateful for however is the opportunity to witness the evolution of humanity where we no longer are restricted by primitive forms of theology and law and yet we continue to strive for integrity, honesty, humility, character development, and moral stability. There is a promising future for our species and not a dark one as theologians are attempting to brainwash their adherents with.

As a Muslim apologist I remember debating at numerous types of venues including Mosques, Churches, Universities, Convention Halls and Libraries. Having engaged with notable Christian apologists such as Dr. James White, Dr. Tony Costa and Professor David Wood I learned that the purpose of apologetics was not confrontation rather to come to an understanding of truth even if it meant evolving one’s own perspective. The idea of receiving an apparent truth is to embrace it, not fight it. The moment we try to fight an apparent truth or reality we begin to dwell in hypocrisy: understanding that something is apparently true and yet denying it for selfish reasons or attachment to preconceived notions. I want to thank Ali Sina for giving me the platform to explore Islam and to expose its primitive nature as incompatible with contemporary reality unless and until Muslims choose to reform it.”  Source – FaithFreedom.org.

Pakistan: Christian Student Nurse Forced to Convert to Islam and Marry Muslim Man

By Jibran Khan – “Lahore (AsiaNews) – A 24-year Christian woman from southern Punjab was abducted by a Muslim man who, after forcing her to convert to Islam, also forced her to marry him. Although her family filed a formal report of kidnapping, the police did not act immediately, either to stop the abduction or to arrest the culprits. Likewise, her family has gone to court to get her released to no avail; the young student nurse remains in fact in the hands of her kidnappers. This, according to a local priest, is part of an ‘alarming’ trend in anti-Christian violence. He is, to put it mildly, ‘disappointed by the behaviour of local authorities’. A human rights activist confirms that the region of Pakistan where the woman lives is a ‘safe haven for extremists’ who perpetrate abuses and kidnappings ‘with total impunity’.”  Read more.

Canada Condemns Egyptian Anti-Christian Violence, Obama Remains Silent

05/12/2011 Leave a comment

By KEITH KOFFLER – “Even as he renews his outreach to Muslims, President Obama should seek to stem the growing tide of violence against Coptic Christians in Egypt by condemning last weekend’s attacks that left a dozen people dead and scores injured.

The attacks, about which Obama has been silent, also resulted in the burning of Coptic Orthodox churches and the destruction of Christian homes and businesses.

The president needs to say more to stem religious violence that creates opportunities for Islamic extremists who want to seize power in Egypt, our most important Arab ally.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Monday ‘strongly’ condemned the violence, saying, ‘We stand behind the Coptic Christian community and their right to practice their faith in safety and security, free of persecution.’

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Obama is preparing to try to reengage Muslims with a speech, possibly next week, that will make the case that Muslims should ‘reject Islamic militancy in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s death and embrace a new era of relations with the U.S.'”  Read more.

Comet Hits the Sun; Solar Flare Erupts

05/12/2011 Leave a comment

By John Metcalfe – “This one-of-a-kind space video, captured yesterday by NASA and the European Space Agency’s Solar & Heliospheric Observatory, appears to show a kamikaze comet smashing into the sun to provoke a fiery coronal mass ejection. In reality, though, it’s probably coincidence.

The comet stands virtually no chance of making it to the surface of the intensely burning solar body; heat waves would have melted it and broken it down into hot space dust millions of kilometers away. The comet’s destruction seems to be confirmed in observations made by the Solar Dynamics Observatory, which show no sign of it at the moment the sun flung its wad of magnetic plasma into space.” Read more.

‘There Is An End-Game Afoot for Man’s Freedom and the Western Way of Life … The End will Begin in Israel’

Glenn Beck: “It is great to be back in America.  I don’t know if you have heard, but I have spent the last couple of days in Israel where I am working on something there that I think will be very big, because there are very big life-changing things — world-changing events — on the horizon… When the media elite celebrated the glorious uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, I was in the back row raising my hand saying, ‘Um, I don’t think this is gonna be so glorious, especially for America and Israel… Well, how’s that working out so far?  I can tell you tonight that there is an end-game afoot for man’s freedom and the Western way of life, and I believe the end will begin in Israel.  And if you don’t pay attention, it will all make perfect sense when the world turns the heat on Israel… Israel is the beginning of what could be the end for man’s freedom, and we must pay attention and learn from history …”

Two Muslim Men Arrested Over Alleged Synagogue Plot in New York

05/12/2011 Leave a comment

“Two Americans have been arrested by New York City police for allegedly plotting to attack a synagogue in the New York area, Fox News has learned.

One source described the case as the latest example of ‘homegrown’ radicalization. The two men were identified as Mohammad Mamdouh, of Moroccan descent, and Ahmed Serhani, of Algerian descent.

Serhani allegedly made a general statement about wanting to attack a synagogue –- though no specific synagogue was mentioned, according to initial information obtained by Fox News. With a history of drug dealing, Serhani was hoping to make enough money to purchase weapons and possibly explosives for the attack, one source said.”  Read more.

Would-Be Synagogue Attackers: ‘I Hate Jews’, ‘I Want to Kill Them’ – “The men discussed disguising themselves as Jewish worshippers as part of a plan to attack a synagogue, according to a statement issued by Vance’s office. ‘We will blow up a synagogue in Manhattan and take out the entire building,’ Ferhani said, according to Kelly… ‘I hate Jews,’ Mamdouh said. ‘I want to kill them,’ Ferhani said in the recordings made by the undercover New York police officer, Kelly said.” Read more.

Salafi Clerics in Egypt Express Hatred Toward Christians on TV; Military-Salafi Relations in Egypt Raise Questions

05/12/2011 Leave a comment

By Kristen Chick – “The deadly clashes between Muslims and Christians in Cairo this weekend have heightened already growing concern about the role of fundamentalist Muslims known as Salafis in post-revolution Egypt…

‘They don’t want Christians in Egypt. They want an Islamic state,’ said a woman who gave her name as Mona at a Christian protest Monday against the weekend violence…

They practice what they believe to be the purest form of Islam, and are primarily concerned with living their lives according to such teaching, and not with politics, says Diaa Rashwan, an expert on Islamist groups at the Al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. He describes Egyptian Salafis as ‘in this middle place between jihadists like Osama bin Laden and political Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood.’

… Al Qaeda’s members follow a form of Salafism, but Egyptian Salafi clerics say that unlike the global terrorist group they have renounced violence. Yet Salafi clerics on television have railed hatefully against Christianity, and in March a Christian man in Qena said Salafists cut off his ear after accusing him of renting an apartment to a prostitute.”  Read more.

Military-Salafi relations in Egypt raise questions – “As sectarian violence blamed on hard-line Salafi Muslims continues to rise, many are voicing sharp criticism of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and its transitional cabinet, accusing them of failing to apply the law so far as radicals are concerned.” Read more.

By Tom McGregor – “The longest waterway in Asia, the Yangtze River, which is China’s most important shipping route, has been shut down by the worst drought in 50 years that has kept cargo ships stranded and 400,000 people without drinking water.

The Daily Telegraph of London reports that, ‘water-levels have sunk as low as 10 ft. in the main thoroughfare of the 3,900 mile long river that stretches from the glaciers of the Tibetan plateaus to the coastal city of Shanghai.’

The Yangtze River basin is home to 1/3 of China’s population and is responsible for 40 percent of the nation’s economic growth.” Read more.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Hate insects? Afraid of germs? Researchers are reporting an alarming combination: bedbugs carrying a staph ‘superbug.’

Canadian scientists detected drug-resistant staph bacteria in bedbugs from three hospital patients from a downtrodden Vancouver neighborhood…

Five bedbugs were crushed and analyzed. MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, was found on three bugs. MRSA is resistant to several types of common antibiotics and can become deadly if it gets through the skin and into the bloodstream.” Read more.
